I've been going here for 2 years and had the worst experience this time around. I went last night with my sister to get our nails done and asked for a full set of almond shaped nails with black gel polish. My nails ended up looking like the photos. Not very easy to see in this photo: there's a bump on my left pinky nail where the tip isn't flush with my natural nail. The first coat of polish on my left hand wasn't cured before he had me take my hand out for the second coat. He also put the clear coat on and had me cure both hands halfway before filing the sides and underneath of my nail (causing me to bleed on my 3rd and 4th fingers) and having me replace them under the light - so all of that dust is now embedded in my nails as well. I went back today already planning to get them fixed, when I saw the middle nail flaking (photo). I'm sure the other 4 fingers will have the same problem since that layer of polish wasn't fully cured, but when I went back and had the same nail tech, he only fixed the one nail that was flaking and wouldn't even listen to me about the problems I had with the other nails - going so far as to deny that they were crooked and to deny that the shape is oval and not almond, claiming it's what I asked for. In fact he was more focused on the football game instead of listening. I'm so upset with this set and how it was handled. I've never had such bad work from this salon before. I don't know the tech's name, but yesterday and today he was at table 16. He looked like the kind of guy who would rather be out working with wood or drinking beer with his buddies or something instead of doing nails, and while I can understand the sentiment - if you're going to do nails, at least take pride in your work and listen to your client. read more

My son and his friends wanted to go to the mall so I thought I would treat myself to a mani and pedi. I just finished a couple projects with my garden so I definitely could use them both. I went with the pedicure package that had the hot stone massage and detox bath and a few others. The stone massage was nice but very short lived. When the lady rushed me over to dry my nails I realized there were people still getting a pedicure that was there when I sat down. She definitely rushed through mine way too fast for what I was paying! I went to say something but couldnt find her. Another lady came up to me but didn't speak English and just kept telling me how much I owed. I didn't even get to get my manicure but now looking at my feet I'm glad I didn't! the nail polish is on my skin and on some toes not even covering the whole toenail. They are fast and sloppy there. Paid the extra for my feet to get the calluses scrubbed and removed. Just a terrible experience. My feet were still ruff. They don't take enough time to make sure your feet are soft and pretty. I was probably in and out of there in 20 minutes then after the 45.00 plus tax they expect a tip. All while they are doing your feet they are talking between themselves and looking everywhere except for at your feet to make sure they are doing what you're paying them to do. This place was fine. My mom and I went on a Friday around 11 am and it was very busy! I got my pedicure started first while my mom waited for someone to become available to do her pedicure. I felt like my pedicure was kind of rushed, and I would have loved a longer leg massage with the scrub and lotion. He also didn't do very well getting my callus on my feet, but you could tell he wanted to go quick to get the other people waiting in. My suggestion would be not to go when it looks busy, because you won't get the same service you deserve. It was hard feeling relaxed because it was so busy and packed and loud. My niece and I went here when I was visiting. I have never experienced the treatment I received in this nail salon. I was asked if I minded having my gel sanded off with hand held electric nail sander. I said no because it takes the top layer of my nail off. So I was given a bowl of acetone to take off my gel- putting all of my fingers into it and holding it there. When I became uncomfortable I was then wrapped with cotton balls and foil. I popped in here to get my eyebrows done. It looked nice from the outside and the finished product was good, but the rest of the experience was harrowing. First, I went inside and a woman showed me to the waxing chair. There was a man sleeping in it! They laughed and he tottered off. I sat down in the creepily-warm chair and she started talking about her personal life. She waxed my brows quickly and then told me I could go upfront to pay. I asked if she had a mirror and she told me where I could find one, but I was surprised that she hadn't offered one to me immediately. It was something like $10 to get my brows waxed, so the price was definitely right, but I had bits of wax stuck on me all day and I doubt that I'll be back. read more

So this is one of the 2 nail places located in the mall (I believe there are only two... unless they've multiplied). They are in the wing across from a tuxedo rental shop. I've only been here twice- once for a pedi and the second time for a gel polish mani. Both times I didn't have to wait long. You sign in and then a couple minutes later you're on your way. The girls working there seem very nice and the prices seem comparable to other places in Toledo. (not that I've gotten many mani/pedis in town) It was $28 for a pedicure and they have the massage chairs and let you soak your feet. It's definitely cheaper than the pedicures I've gotten at the spas. I would probably come back here to get my pedicures. Gel Polish I don't usually get manicures, but I had come in here to get my gel polish removed from when I had done a spa day with my girlfriends. The price for a gel polish was $25 which seemed reasonable. Here they use the gelish brand nail polish and they dry it with UV lights. (With Gel polish, it has to be dried between coats and can use LED lights, which allows for faster drying time or UV lights). The UV lights definitely take longer to dry in between coats so it took a bit longer than when I had gotten the mani done with LED lights. I also wonder what the repercussions are to use UV lights if you get gel manis regularly. I realize it's only a couple minutes under the UV light, but if you get your nails done all the time, I'd tend to think that LED light might be better. As for the finished product, I didn't really like the shape that my nails ended up. I asked her to keep the nail shape the same. Some of my nails ended up with square shapes and some others were really rounded off so it was a bit inconsistent. Also, I didn't notice until the end, but the girl didn't apply the polish over my entire nail i.e. close to the cuticle. I'm guessing she didn't want to get polish on my cuticle but there's a space between the polish and my cuticle which makes it look as though my nails have grown out already. The whole point of the gel polish is that it's supposed to last up to 3 weeks without chipping etc, but the biggest problem is that it starts to look grown out. So I was a bit disappointed that it already looked grown out from the get go. This means that I will probably have to remove the polish before the 3 weeks because it will look too grown out by then. California Nails isn't the best place that I've every been to but I can't go out of town every time I want to get a mani/pedi. This place is clean, the people are nice, and the prices are reasonable compared to other Toledo places so I will probably visit again in the future. Note: You can pay with credit card, but if you want to add tip to the card, you have to let them know before they ring it up so they can add it to the total before they ring it up because there isn't a tip line on the receipt after they ring it out. read more

I walked in and asked if i could get acrylics and a pedicure, they told me I could only get one or the other so i just got the acrylics. Their pricing was ridiculous. it said $35+ for acrylics and i got them long and coffin so that should've been 45$ i paid almost $60 for white acrylics and some of them are crooked. They also charge 15$ each for different colors i think that's dumb. I wanted 5 different colors but the man didn't tell me about the prices before he applied the white to my nail. You could easily tell nothing has ever been cleaned or even swept off which is actually disgusting considering it's a nail salon. Got a pedicure done! We came in at 5 on Sunday in hopes my friend and I could get something done before they closed at 6. Not only did they give us Fabulous nail job and massage, but also they made specific accommodations to have my friend and I sit next to each other.
