I don't think I've ever given a nail place a low score, until today, when I walked in at 5pm on Friday night for a simple medi pedi, and received only but disgruntled looks, considering how there was only 1 customer and 4 workers. The long black hair Vietnamese lady who did my medi was super rough with the shaping where it stunned me a few times. I wanted to say something but she seemed so in a rush, that it gave me a bit of anxiety. I felt kind of bad for not making an appointment. I even noticed when she brushed the pastel pink on me that she didn't use a bottom coating, like what most places usually do to cover the natural nail color. I didn't want to be difficult so I completely ignored her. What irritated me though was that she lied to me that she painted it 4 times in my left and three times on my right, prior to me looking at my nails. I knew very well that she did it two times only. I despise liars. She even asked if I wanted to do gel, which had to be joke. The only saving grace is Julie who did my pedi. She was gentle with my feet and asked if everything is ok, which is what most, if not ALL, of what nail places should do before moving forward with anything. Thank you Julie for saving this place. I really wanted to like this place because it's so freakin close to where I live, but after this experience, I much rather go to an Asian place near my parents where the people are MUCH nicer and the prices are MUCH cheaper. $37 for medi and pedi (additional for foot scrub). If you really need to come here for whatever crazy reason it is, then just ask for Julie. read more

I went there last week with my mom & bridesmaids to get ready before my wedding. I made an appointment for the group over a week in advance and they were still very understaffed, we were there for almost 4 hours for 6 people and only 4 did both mani/pedi. there was a lot of waiting around at the end. They basically forgot about my manicure and left me sitting in the pedicure chair for a long time. When they did my manicure, they definitely used a different color than what I picked, it was close and we had already been there for an hour longer than I thought, so I just let that slide. the thing that irked me the most was that the lady who did my pedicure kept pointing out the mosquito bite I had on my ankle, poking at it and making a face like it was gross. I'm aware that bug bites are gross, it was very annoying and rude to have her keep pointing it out. i've been there before and had better experiences. So it was disappointing to have an important celebration be so lackluster. read more

Fist off I've been gladly going to California Nails for nearly 10 years. A few years back I saw a picture that Blake Lively had posted of her nails with the colorful abstract lines. I asked Sophia if she can do the same and I was not disappointed. Ever since then both Sophia and I were inspired and we always come up with new and different line or shape designs to try, and I always leave happy. Today I decided to try gel extensions and let me tell ya, these are my new thing! Sophia is always clean and detail oriented and her work excels because of it. I'm never displeased when I leave here. I always walk in excited to get glammed up and I always leave with a smile on my face. Thanks to COVID, they have temporary closed again. And I'm counting down the days until they reopen. Today I came in to get acrylics done (gel removal) and John did my nails. I am incredibly picky so I was hesitant because Helen is my go-to. He began my nails but left them lumpy and some of the acrylic was hitting my cuticles. Additionally the polish wasn't evenly applied causing some nails to smudge and mess up. According to John my nails were dried so I left. 10 minutes later my nails were ruined. I had to reapply a whole new color when I got home along with re-file my nails. I am only giving this three stars due to my bad experience. I am normally happy when I leave this place. I recommend you don't leave unless you're completely happy. Go to Helen or Sophia. This is the ABSOLUTE WORST nail place that I have ever been to. I came here just to get my gel nails and pedicure removed. That was it, just removal and cleaning. I ended up paying $40 plus tip and my nails weren't even cleaned and shaped properly. My toenails were cut really square and my cuticles were not taken care of. The dead skin all around my nails were still crusty AF when I left the nail salon. The gel on my hands were removed but they did not even bother cleaning my nails. Imagine taking off your polish with acetone and being done with it.. THAT'S how bad my nails looked! And after a few days the edges of my nails were chipping because I guess they removed too much nail structure on top with their portable grinder machine. I am extremely angry that I was charged so much for such HORRIBLE service. Never coming back. read more

I recently moved to Pasadena and have been going here every 2Weeks for the past 4Months. I love that this place is very clean and very nicely put together. John & Helen are the adorable couple who run this place and they are equally talented manicurists. They seem to have high standards considering the fact that their employees are also wonderful and attentive. I've gone to Helen and John for my Stiletto Gel Nails and enjoy them both. Anna has done my pedicure and my guy friends manicure and she's great too. when you visit they have lots of colors to choose from (Gel, Shellac, Quick Dry, etc.) but if you want the OPI you must ask for it. Its locked in a case due to the fact that people keep stealing it. They are extremely friendly and personable. You'll love them! Update: I obviously loved this place and was a customer for about two years. I found John and Helen to be wonderful (The managers). I stopped going here suddenly, in spite of it being a two minute walk from my apartment on Roosevelt. I use to walk by, heading to Vons or Walgreens, several days a week and would often wave. All that stopped and they never asked why. I introduced my close friend and neighbor to this place and was very offended when she shared a conversation she had with John and Helen's daughter Sophia (also a nail technician). In this conversation, Sophia, felt so comfortable as to ask my friend to confirm my gender identity in a room full of people. I am 27 and my neighbor is 75. Why would you ask this woman whether or not I am male or female and think it wouldn't get back to me? I am a transgender woman of color, but what does this have to do with the green money I spend with dead white men's faces on it? She is transphobic, ignorant and rude. LGBT folks and allies. This is the worst place I have ever been to. My cousin brought me here while I was visiting. If I read the Yelp reviews beforehand, I would never have stayed. The smell of chemicals hit you immediately upon entry. The chairs are all cracked, but at least most of them still work. I was seated in a chair to soak in water, but waited for over 40 minutes before anyone started my pedicure. I had texted my cousin that if no one came to do my nails within the next 15 minutes, I was walking out in wet feet. While I was sitting there, I saw one client getting her nails done very, very slowly. The lady doing her nails got up at least 3 times to deal with incoming clients. She then went and finished some other guy's pedicure and left her waiting....and it wasn't to dry her nails. TERRIBLE. Unfortunately, I proceeded with my pedicure bc they came within 10 minutes of my text to my cousin, who was also waiting for a pedicure.I decided against a manicure as I just wanted out after the pedicure started. read more
