EBMUD gave us access to monitor our water usage online, and once we started tracking it, the numbers seemed to be getting worse... definitely not what you want to see. At that point, both plumbers recommended bringing in a leak detection specialist. We were pretty stressed, thinking this could turn into a major (and expensive) problem, so we started calling around trying to find someone reputable who could come out quickly. Steve from Water Shield Leak Detection was able to come out that same afternoon, which was a huge relief. He was thorough, ran multiple tests, and took the time to explain everything in a way that actually made sense. More importantly, he was confident that we weren't dealing with a major issue like we originally feared. Extremely unhappy with the work and interaction with USA Leak Detectors. They came to my house and…read moredid find a leak under the house. They wrote up a report saying "Active leak was identified within the interior pressurized supply line serving the kitchen. Leak location has been identified and marked for corrective repair." The image attached is what they included which is inside the house. Since this company doesn't do repairs, I had Jazz Plumbing come in. Their technician said the report was insufficient and they'd have to do their own inspection since a piece of tape on the kitchen doesn't help them. "Prior to my arrival, the customer had received an inspection from another company; however, the information provided was not sufficient for diagnostic purposes. A full independent evaluation of the crawl space was therefore conducted." I called USA Leak Detectors to say I shouldn't have to pay them since their work was deemed insufficient. They said they'd call me back. They continued sending me invoice reminders, so I called them back, they said they'd have their manager call me, but nothing. Today I got a call from debt collectors threatening legal action against me. USA Leak Detectors said they called, left messages, and emailed me multiple times to try to work it out, but I have zero messages or emails from them. It's very possible they left emails and messages to someone, but it wasn't to me (and apparently they have the right contact information when it comes to debt collection). I was also told it's not their fault if the other company (Jazz Plumbing) wasn't capable of understanding the report. Yes they found the leak, but it's not worth the risk of getting an insufficient report, sloppy communication, and threatened with legal action.

After the drywall was removed and the leak was discovered, I requested quotes through Yelp. Mark was the first to respond. I sent him a picture of the leaky pipe joints and he knew exactly what needed to be done. His quote was reasonable for Bay Area prices. He came by that same night with another employee, went right to work, and did a very professional and efficient job. They left the area clean and tidy. Payment was also an easy online transaction. Fellow Yelpers, if you're not aware of industry prices for contract work, remember we are in the age of AI. If you're handy and can at least trouble shoot and are aware of the exact work that needs to be done, whether it's car mechanical issues, electrical or plumbing projects and repairs, ask Google for industry standard prices for that specific job. Google will give you a range in costs. Bear in mind that CA (especially the Bay Area), parts and labor for any contract work will always be on the higher end of the range since cost of living here is higher than other parts of the nation, but knowing is half the battle. You don't want to fall victim to price-gouging, or suckered into paying something completely unreasonable, so at least educate yourself on what the acceptable cost is for a specific repair in your area.

He spent about 3 hours trying to clear the backed up plumbing and turned out to be a much bigger problem. A broken pipe under the grass from roots. Mark came out to help locate the problem found it and advised me of what needed to be done. No bullshit just honesty and super professional. He dealt with the owner of the property late at night to get the approval and had his guys out first thing the next day to dig up the pipe, replace it and just like that our toilets, showers, sinks and washer are all back in use. He performed the tasks effectively and offers a 30 day guarantee on his work. I am very happy with his work. Highly recommended. July 25, 2025 Update... Toilet clog issue was not resolved. Called him back and he blamed it on the toilet which he said was a great toilet the previous visit. I suppose if he blames it on the toilet, he does not need to come back unless he gets paid for changing it. Not good. The supply line in the kitchen he cleared, the faucet has a lower flow then before the debris entered the line from work being done. The flow improved but not to the original flow rate. Instead of removing the cartridge in the faucet and flushing out the debris, he recommended replacing the faucet. He looks for opportunity to maximize his charge instead of the best solution. Double not good. Aug 4, 2025 update I got someone else to come by. He removed the toilet and cleared the line. Problem solved. He also removed and flushed out the kitchen faucet valve and restored the water flow to same as hot water. So it is not hard water build up. In other words, he came in and finished the job that Shawn started but did not complete. The zinger is, he charged 1/3 less than Shawn.
