I have been waiting for my HOA to trim two eucalyptus trees behind my home for almost 3 years now,…read moreas a large limb fell about 16 months ago and the tree needed to be pruned and some of the heavy limbs facing the rear of my home pruned back and or removed. I happened to be out of town when the crew made it to my home and two eucalyptus trees and one smaller tree. When I returned I was not pleased as the pruning that they completed was less than satisfactory. Nubs, cambium tears and crossing limbs as well as limbs growing into other trees were left unpruned besides broken glass, limbs on the ground and debris. I called and spoke with the landscape supervisor at the HOA and he informed me he would swing by and take a look. Chris stopped by an agreed as well as committed to having the crew swing by and finish the trees. Two eucalyptus trees and one smaller tree. The crew also broke one of my landscape lights which explained the glass and also damaged my rain gutter. I repaired the gutter and also informed Chris about the broken light. The crews also left a mess on the ground with limbs and debris. Two days later I flagged down a crew and asked them to swing by and clean up the slope as well as look at the trees. The workers complied and came by to pick up the debris. When I asked about finishing the pruning I was told by the lead that he was unable to fly and that they were done. I once again reported this to the HOA supervisor, Chris. He also informed me he had asked the owner or arborist of WB Starr to swing by and talk with me and to see the tree issues, which never occurred. About a week later at 7:30 a.m. the doorbell rang and the same individual who stated he could not fly was there to provide a replacement landscape light which they broke and failed to clean up the glass etc. Once again no pruning and no communication. I spoke to Chris the HOA Supervisor and he told me that communication with the company was quite difficult. I am certainly not happy about the pruning techniques and lack of quality work. I walk daily within the community and witness the pruning and the ripping of the cambium layer, debris left in the crotches, leaving numbs and leaving questionable limbs seems to be a component of this company's production pruning. I must say that the trees that they can access with a boom lift get a better finished product versus the trees that require rope and climb techniques. I studied under Ted Stamen at UCR and managed forestry services at several municipalities and can recognize quality tree work versus inferior or less that satisfactory pruning. I will state that 75% of the trees these crews complete are satisfactory yet 25% are less than desirable. My trees happen to fall in the latter. Production pruning is similar to what I call mow, blow and go landscaping and hence this is what you get in an HOA that also may not address the specifics relative to qualify control in their SOW, bid specs and overall bid package. I hope to have some communication in the future with Chris and the WB Starr representative, one that speaks English, as the workers are limited in that arena.

I compared his quote to a few more guys and ultimately made the decision to hire them for the job. Oscar and his partner are responsible, hard working, and very humble guys. I will call these guys again for future landscaping project. I would have given a five if not for slightly less than ideal communication. Not everyone answers their phone or text immediately and is totally understandable but as a client, I would like to know when they will be at the property, when they intend to come back if the job was not completed, what is the status of a back order, etc. Didn't bother me too much but communication is pretty important that I think that's at least one point people need to know about. A highly recommended sod, at the time, that was new to Southern California called Zion Zoysia. It was recommended by our landscaper since it would remain evergreen through winter and was kid and dog friendly. We were in. After the first winter and spring rolled around, we started to get weeds, the pesky sage grass weed that is difficult to get rid of. The sod company we purchased the sod from recommended we use Lawnscape Systems to control this. We've been customers now for a year and a half and are happy that we have them helping to maintain our investment. Our technician, Freddie who's been with us the entire time is a true pro and expert. Every scheduled visit I get a text that he's scheduled to come and asks us to update him regarding any changes we've seen that he needs to be made aware of. Consistent great customer service. When he arrives, he walks us through what he's going to focus on and delivers. Our lawn has improved with each monthly treatment and is the greenest, healthiest lawn on the block. Yes, it cost a little extra each month but if you are like us and see your lawn as an investment to add value to your home then you'll agree it's worth it. Now all the fescue on the right side of the yard is dead. No sprinklers have malfunctioned during this time. Because Lawnscape could not figure out the problem, other than to blame me, I called my landscaper. Again we made sure the sprinklers were functioning correctly. My landscaper said that Lawnscape had over treated the area, and that he had 2 other properties in the same situation. He said it would cost $700 to reseed. Because I thoroughly believe that this is a Lawnscape problem, I called Lawnscape for financial help. The manager again blamed this on me, told me of their 45 years in business all over SoCal, their State licensing credentials, and generally of their infallibility of their service. Days went by and the response I received from Shegun was that I was harassing him (for my results really?).
