Smiling faces at the counter and very friendly service! Place had a good amount of seating, and everything was clean! Really appreciated the salsa bar and the variety of toppings provided in it. We got the sunrise burrito, which was delicious, as well as the San Diego burrito. I got Carne with the San Diego, but I would probably see if I could sub it for a different meat next time, and would potentially recommend others to do the same. The meat was very tough, to the point of having to spit some of it out cause it wasn't breaking down with ample chewing. Now I don't think this is a reflection of them, nor is this meant to be a "bad review", it genuinely could've just been a one off bad cut of meat they got stuck with or were unaware of. That's really my only critique though! Overall, this place was an awesome find and I'd love to try more of their menu items in the future! read more

Food here is delicious! The ladies here are always nice and I love that they have a little salsa bar. Their tacos are crispy and crunchy. Rice and beans are good but I do like the rice better than the beans. read more

In a small shopping strip. We couldn't find it at first. You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. There are a few tables and one long bench type table at the front window. Service was good and our food was delivered extremely quick. They didn't skimp on the food and it was delicious. Don't judge this place until you try it, I almost did. Glad I ate here and would recommend it to everyone. read more

Let me preface that this review will be updated once I go back and explore the menu further, but I have to judge what I ate. Anxious to come back and order something else. The space had a great vibe and friendly staff, so I think I just ordered the wrong thing. The Quesarito was what we went with and it was definitely not the thing to order. Very very very meat heavy with rice and minimal cheese. Super salty and without additions of salsa it wouldn't have been edible. It was quite pricy for what it was, but it was a bad order. I will be back and explore the menu, but I do not recommend the Quesarito. I will update this review after my next trip, but be cautious of the Quesarito. read more

What a great place! The restaurant is very clean. Everyone was very friendly and helpful with the menu. We tried the Philly Cheesesteak, Hot Pastrami, Mexican Torta, and Mexican Corn. Everything was great! I truly hope this place finds the business it deserves and doesn't get lost in the restaurant madness here. Clean bathrooms. The team was working hard to keep everything clean. read more

Califas is in a small shop in a strip mall, we almost missed the place. Don't pass them by though!! We stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon and tried out the daily special. Beef Birria Quesadilla with Consommé. Smells great inside btw. They have a small toppings and salsa bar too. The Birria was extremely tasty and flavorful. Crisp tortilla and melted cheese with onions. Delicious consommé we finished everything and enjoyed a fruit punch Jarritos ! They're very friendly and prompt service! read more

Absolutely love this place, 10/10. It's my new Mexican food go-to! I got the bean and cheese burrito with some added ingredients. It was delicious, and tasted authentic (vs chain places). The guy at the counter was very friendly, the prices were reasonable, and I can't wait to come back! Best of all? As a clean eater like me, they don't use unhealthy/nasty seed oils like canola or soybean oil in their burritos. I felt good after eating their delicious food. They also have a salsa bar with various spice levels, jalepenos, onions, cilantro, and other good stuff. Finally found my go-to Mexican place in Greenville! read more

For a place with 4.6 stars, very disappointing. Queso was straight out of the can and the chips with it tasted like they came from a Costco bulk purchase bag. Birria tacos were edible, but nothing special and definitely not worth $5 a pop. The "rice bowl" wasn't even edible. Cold, off-tasting, and just unappetizing. Skip this place. Much better Mexican in the area. read more

We were looking for a quick snack before heading back to Atlanta through Greenville and Califas popped up on our radar. I believe it's a chain from California that has opened its first location in South Carolina - random but I'm not mad. Only mad they're not in Atlanta but irrelevant LOL. We ordered the Compton Crispy Corn Tacos (order of 2 was $6) with your choice of ground beef or chicken, which were pretty standard but really hit the spot. But my favorite bite was the Heavenly Delicious Quesabirria Tacos - 3 for $13 and came with a side of consomé. Califas is for sure worth checking out if you're in or passing through Greenville, because I'll definitely be back next time! read more

Came here around 7pm on a weeknight. Place was pretty empty. They have a daily special. Excellent daily taco birra special (taco, beans, and rice for $7.99). I also got a fish taco which was delicious. La Croix to drink and they had my favorite (coconut) flavor. They had a very clean and labeled sauce bar and the guy told me which ones were spicy. The food was very tasty and I would definitely come here again! I took my food to go and was disappointed to find no utensils when I opened it my hotel room :( read more

Wow! I'm so disappointed with myself that I have never been here before. Definitely 5 stars (if not more)! The birria was tender and juicy with an excellent dipping sauce. Every item was perfectly cooked and more than a generous portion. The service was very fast. Everyone was friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. They brought out fresh chips to our table -- the house cilantro sauce was soooo good. Very clean! I highly recommend. read more

We LOVE Califas! They do California style Mexican and it's authentic bc the owners are from there. It's great service in a small, fast casual/counter service type place. Staff is always nice upbeat and ready to serve. It feels like they love each customer that walks in the door and their food is excellent. I haven't gotten a single item that I did not like they have everything you can think of from larger plates to smaller à la carte they even have desserts! I highly recommend the churros and Lola's Turon (not pictured but did get on a previous visit) Also the Lola's Lumpia is probably one of my favorites and literally the only place I know of where I can get lumpia! read more

The staff members at this restaurant were respectful and the food did not take long to be served. The building was overall clean and it was pleasing to look at. The food was good, but overpriced. Me and my three other family members ordered and the total came to be about 80 dollars (the cost at others places usually comes out to be about 40-50 dollars). There was also limited food choices on the menu and you could not substitute the ingredients in the food items. But overall it was a pleasant experience. read more

Yes, each Birria taco is worth $5. Fresh. Flavorful. Five stars. I got the Birria tacos takeout and there was no quality loss during the 20-ish minute drive home. The consommé is magic (especially if you add some of the medium salsa from the salsa bar for kick!). The service team greeted me and asked me about where I was from with a lot of warmth. No one was eating in the restaurant, but while I was waiting for my order, two or three other seemingly "regulars" came through and got their usual which was a great sign! read more

I'm from California (San Diego) and was looking for the closest thing to a California burrito. First time trying it and it wasn't bad. It was a bit on the small side for the price and the carne Asada was chewy. Second time tried their Birria burrito and rolled tacos. The instant the food got in the car, all I could smell was rancid grease. My hair even smells like it long after eating it. The best way I can put their Mexican food is: if they were the Kind of Mexican food you get in Cali- it would be on the lower quality end. The Birria meat was so salty, it almost reminded me of shredded dog food. And I'm really trying not to be rude. But there was so much salt in the meat that I instantly got a headache. The rolled tacos were 4 little rolled tacos and they were 15$. Very over priced and the lettuce was not fresh. read more

The food looks amazing and im sure it is good but unfortunately, I never got the chance to try it. Repetitively ask them to make sure it had no dairy on it. I am extremely allergic to dairy and eating at it all will make me very sick. Although I went back up and bought more food with the specific request of not having dairy on it and told them I was allergic they still repetitively gave me food that had dairy on it. Eventually, on the verge of tears, I had to go up and ask for a refund. It is something I never do, and I even felt bad about even though they were in the back. I try my best to never leave reviews especially bad ones on restaurants, but this was just such a bad experience that I had to let other people with possible allergies know that they are not accommodating. So to some up if you are allergic to anything do not go here they are not accommodating. read more

What. A. Moment. Highly recommend the cultural experience that you are greeted with right at the door. I walked in not knowing what I wanted, and immediately was assisted my the manager for recommendations, which I'll deem as cultural experience and customer appreciation manager! The best decision was to try the Birria Tacos, which the multiple sauces, which were fresh, deliciously flavorful, and the number of side options for limes, onions, and cilantro. If it was appropriate, I would have licked the plate. Highly. Highly recommend. Go in and explore the vast menu with amazing at home experience. I'll be back! read more

I was in town for 4 months and no lie once I found this place I was there at least twice a week, if I was single I'd a went there everyday but my husband wasn't as hyped about it as I was .The flavor, portions, and customer service were consistent every single time. Juan was the guy that served me most of the time he was always nice and started to remember my order around month 2. Okay so I had been wanting to try barria tacos and found this place. When I mentioned Califa's to a friend, they said they loved it. So my happy tail decides to make a trip and try it myself. Listen...good is an understatement! I don't know what they put in that meat but I think I tasted a lot of love, clouds from heaven and maybe a slice of blessing because lawd it was good!! We had the tacos which lived up to the Heavenly name...The guacamole which was super fresh and a perfect balance of ingredients...Barria fries (because we are greedy) were bomb with a lil kick...And we we're glad we chose to wash it down with the juice instead of prepackaged drinks. All in all...we spent a bit ($20 pp) but it was worth every Penny and you could always go cheaper if you'd like. We had to try several things. So if you're on the fence...DO IT!! Oh and ask for John. If you're on the hunt for Birria EVERYTHING look no further than Califas. We tried the tacos, quesadilla and loaded fries all topped with their famous Birria. The consume was a little sweet for my tastes but my husband loved it. Thankfully there is a salsa bar with a red and green salsa, cilantro, onions, and lime to add at your preference. Everything we had was so well seasoned. The menu is much larger than just Birria. We are looking forward to coming back to try more. Service was super fast and family owned so you get an added personal touch. Drinks are all in cans/ bottles unless you want one of their specialty juices. The interior of the restaurant is fairly small with limited seating for smaller groups. We ended up sitting at the door which I wouldn't recommend in the winter. Overall we had a great experience. The one thing we were disappointed in was not realizing we needed to either purchase chips or buy the dip appetizer of queso or guacamole. Not really a complaint just something to be aware of. read more

OMG Birra tacos here are just amazing! Came here on the suggestion of a work friend after we finished some big presentations. It was an awesome way to celebrate! The beef is stewed in a juicy broth which makes for a very rich complex beefy flavour. They provide you a small side of broth where you can dip the tacos back in. It is just delicious! Makes me want to return back. I ordered it up with friend plantains. Sooooo good. They have a large menu of your typical Cali Mexican staples. What a fun, colorful, and tasty spot. Califas is a small place so if you aren't looking you might miss it. Once you step inside it's clear to see the owners pulled their inspiration form Los Angeles. Full of color, murals, and a salsa bar it's a fun place to have a quick bite. We walked in and the cashier educate us on some of their dishes. They are known for their Birria meat so obviously I had to get something with that. I opted for the lumpia mainly because I wasn't starving and just wanted a small bite. I also got plantains. Others with me got tacos and burritos. Word to the wise, the burrito was HUGE. One of the owners stoped by and talked to us, she was very friendly. Can't wait to go back and get another dish. read more

Listen, we've only been living in Greenville for just around 2 weeks... and We've already had Califas a handful of times. Coming from Columbia, there's a restaurant who we THOUGHThad the best Birria tacos, but no sir, no ma'am... Califas is THE BEST HANDS DOWN. The birria anything is going to knock your socks off. On our first visit I had the birria quesadilla, first off it's huge and the meat is just so flavorful! Kelsay had the birria grilled cheese, and man the bread was so tasty and the ratio of meat to cheese was perfect. It even held up very well with the consommé. Since then we've also had the classic birria tacos, and the burrito with has rice, beans, cilantro and onions. It doesn't come with consommé, but just get a side it's worth it. Everything here is fresh, they even have a salsa bar and fresh tropical juices (the raspberry is awesome). Even better, the folks here are super friendly, make you laugh, and treat everyone like their regulars. Such an awesome vibe here! If it's not clear, Califas is THE BEST! read more
