In a small shopping strip. We couldn't find it at first. You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. There are a few tables and one long bench type table at the front window. Let me preface that this review will be updated once I go back and explore the menu further, but I have to judge what I ate. Anxious to come back and order something else. The space had a great vibe and friendly staff, so I think I just ordered the wrong thing. The Quesarito was what we went with and it was definitely not the thing to order. Very very very meat heavy with rice and minimal cheese. Super salty and without additions of salsa it wouldn't have been edible. It was quite pricy for what it was, but it was a bad order. I believe it's a chain from California that has opened its first location in South Carolina - random but I'm not mad. Only mad they're not in Atlanta but irrelevant LOL. We ordered the Compton Crispy Corn Tacos (order of 2 was $6) with your choice of ground beef or chicken, which were pretty standard but really hit the spot. But my favorite bite was the Heavenly Delicious Quesabirria Tacos - 3 for $13 and came with a side of consomé. Came here around 7pm on a weeknight. Place was pretty empty. They have a daily special. Excellent daily taco birra special (taco, beans, and rice for $7.99). I also got a fish taco which was delicious. La Croix to drink and they had my favorite (coconut) flavor. They had a very clean and labeled sauce bar and the guy told me which ones were spicy. Me and my three other family members ordered and the total came to be about 80 dollars (the cost at others places usually comes out to be about 40-50 dollars). The food looks amazing and im sure it is good but unfortunately, I never got the chance to try it. Repetitively ask them to make sure it had no dairy on it. I am extremely allergic to dairy and eating at it all will make me very sick. Although I went back up and bought more food with the specific request of not having dairy on it and told them I was allergic they still repetitively gave me food that had dairy on it. Eventually, on the verge of tears, I had to go up and ask for a refund. It is something I never do, and I even felt bad about even though they were in the back. I try my best to never leave reviews especially bad ones on restaurants, but this was just such a bad experience that I had to let other people with possible allergies know that they are not accommodating. I was in town for 4 months and no lie once I found this place I was there at least twice a week, if I was single I'd a went there everyday but my husband wasn't as hyped about it as I was .The flavor, portions, and customer service were consistent every single time. What a fun, colorful, and tasty spot. Califas is a small place so if you aren't looking you might miss it. Once you step inside it's clear to see the owners pulled their inspiration form Los Angeles. Full of color, murals, and a salsa bar it's a fun place to have a quick bite. We walked in and the cashier educate us on some of their dishes. They are known for their Birria meat so obviously I had to get something with that. I opted for the lumpia mainly because I wasn't starving and just wanted a small bite. I also got plantains. Others with me got tacos and burritos. Word to the wise, the burrito was HUGE. One of the owners stoped by and talked to us, she was very friendly. Okay so I had been wanting to try barria tacos and found this place. When I mentioned Califa's to a friend, they said they loved it. So my happy tail decides to make a trip and try it myself. Listen...good is an understatement! I don't know what they put in that meat but I think I tasted a lot of love, clouds from heaven and maybe a slice of blessing because lawd it was good!! We had the tacos which lived up to the Heavenly name...The guacamole which was super fresh and a perfect balance of ingredients...Barria fries (because we are greedy) were bomb with a lil kick...And we we're glad we chose to wash it down with the juice instead of prepackaged drinks. All in all...we spent a bit ($20 pp) but it was worth every Penny and you could always go cheaper if you'd like. We had to try several things. So if you're on the fence...DO IT!! Oh and ask for John. If you're on the hunt for Birria EVERYTHING look no further than Califas. We tried the tacos, quesadilla and loaded fries all topped with their famous Birria. The consume was a little sweet for my tastes but my husband loved it. Thankfully there is a salsa bar with a red and green salsa, cilantro, onions, and lime to add at your preference. Everything we had was so well seasoned. The menu is much larger than just Birria. We are looking forward to coming back to try more. Service was super fast and family owned so you get an added personal touch. Drinks are all in cans/ bottles unless you want one of their specialty juices. The interior of the restaurant is fairly small with limited seating for smaller groups. We ended up sitting at the door which I wouldn't recommend in the winter. Overall we had a great experience. The one thing we were disappointed in was not realizing we needed to either purchase chips or buy the dip appetizer of queso or guacamole. We've been frequenting Califas for takeout for a couple years now. Their food is quite fantastic as we have tried a number of different menu items. I definitely know that their birria is where it's at. Recently, I was able to join the hubster for a takeout run. The ambiance of the restaurant is clean and neat. Their Yuca Fries are the best I have had in town yet; always worth adding them to an order. Service was very friendly; however, my only gripe would be to double check your to-go order. There have been a couple of times an item was missing. If they improved in that area they would be an easy 5 star choice for me. OMG Birra tacos here are just amazing! Came here on the suggestion of a work friend after we finished some big presentations. It was an awesome way to celebrate! The beef is stewed in a juicy broth which makes for a very rich complex beefy flavour. They provide you a small side of broth where you can dip the tacos back in. It is just delicious! Makes me want to return back. I ordered it up with friend plantains. Sooooo good. They have a large menu of your typical Cali Mexican staples. Listen, we've only been living in Greenville for just around 2 weeks... and We've already had Califas a handful of times. Coming from Columbia, there's a restaurant who we THOUGHThad the best Birria tacos, but no sir, no ma'am... Califas is THE BEST HANDS DOWN. The birria anything is going to knock your socks off. On our first visit I had the birria quesadilla, first off it's huge and the meat is just so flavorful! Kelsay had the birria grilled cheese, and man the bread was so tasty and the ratio of meat to cheese was perfect. It even held up very well with the consommé. Since then we've also had the classic birria tacos, and the burrito with has rice, beans, cilantro and onions. It doesn't come with consommé, but just get a side it's worth it. Everything here is fresh, they even have a salsa bar and fresh tropical juices (the raspberry is awesome).
