Calico Station - Front and back of the quilt - Fabric Stores Near Me - Orange Park, Florida

After I spent months creating a quilt for a friend I took it to Calico Station for longarm quilting. When I picked up the quilt, the quilting was done well but the pattern was not the one I selected. The error was caused by the store. (The pattern book did not match the pattern in the quilting machine.) The person I spoke to was very apologetic but no refund was offered. I am beyond disappointed that my vision for this special gift was not realized. read more

The quality of fabric and notions is better than most and the prices reflect that. I haven't taken any classes or workshops here but I'm wanting to try when I'm able to obtain "travel" weight machines to bring with me. This is a small quilting shop and that describes the inventory and size of the store. I would love to have a fabric or sewing store on this side of town that did not specialize in quilting. I'm an apparel sewest and it seems, other than Joann's, Clay County is a fabric desert for general purpose fabrics. read more

One of the basic tenants of good customer service is to never ever over promise. Sadly, Calico Station did just that. My wife was so looking forward to seeing her quilt quilted by the long arm decorative sewing machine they have in store. We were told when we dropped it off they might get it done same day. They did not. So we called and were told it was on the machine and would be a couple of hours. We went several hours later and quilt in fact had never even made the machine. The store person apologized and seemed to be sincere but the person whose job it was, apology fell flat, and seemed quite insincere. So now we are going from a possible Thursday finish day to Tuesday next week. We had made two prior visits here and were pleased with those visits which is the only reason this is not a one star review. Like I said it is good customer service basics that you never over promise and then under deliver. If we had been told a week that would have been fine. If we had been told a week and they delivered in 3 days we would have been ecstatic. Instead over promise and under delivered has led to disappointment. I'm always happy to revisit a review good or bad so I hope they deliver as promised this time. Perhaps my wife will let me share a photo of the finished product. As I said I'm always happy to revisit a review and I have increased the stars from 3 to 4. We picked up the quilt yesterday morning Thursday. It was our fault we did get it Tuesday. It was apparently ready by Tuesday as promised. Both of the people we dealt with (including the long arm sewing machine operator) were both friendly, informative, attentive and caring. The quilt work they did looks awesome!!! Once my wife gets the binding on and some other final touches finished I will try to remember to post a photo. Nice come back Calico Station. read more

A great little quilt shop tucked back off Wells Road. Staff is always friendly and helpful, especially to those of us new to this whole world of sewing and quilting! They always have an amazing selection of fabrics, and their sales are not to be beat. They also sell sewing machines and equipment too. They also have classes and some of the projects look oh so fun! May have to get brave and try one or two. Nice to know there is a place to get useful advice and buy beautiful fabrics in Orange Park. read more

I love Calico Station. I bought my Bernina 830 there. A couple of months ago, I took it in for service and they are no longer servicing or selling Berninas. Wonderful ladies and fabric, but I'm disappointed that they no longer support Berninas! read more

I have been to this fabric store over the years and lately... I must say it just keeps getting better! I had (another) great time at Calico Station on Friday sewing with my peeps during their open sew, for $5 you can socialize with other quilters and spread out to work on your own projects. While there I decided to sign up for the FAB club, each month I will get a sneak preview of the newest fabrics in the shop and a fabric gift. Uhm , ok yeah sign me up for that! So, the next day I arrived a little late but was welcomed on in no nasty looks at disturbing the show, phew! This month the gift was 4- full- fat quarters! Whoo hoo!! We got to choose from 6 different fabrics in a new digitally printed line. I selected the best ones of course! The new digitally printed fabrics are so vibrant they pop right off the fabric and Smack you with a rainbow of colors that will make a bag of Skittles jealous! And...the styles are modern/contemporary and happy! Then after Fab Club they had a show and tell of the new classes, all of these amazing quilts and bags soooo....., uhm yeah, I signed up for several classes too, and also registered for the Camp Calico retreat in February. Time to get my sewing on! So if your looking for a place to find quilt shop quality silky beautiful fabrics and notions, or want to take a few classes, learn to sew, buy a sewing machine, etc...Try this place you will not be sorry! read more

My beloved Bernina B350 just stopped working mid-stitch, and if you have a Bernina that has a problem, you know that finding info on parts and DIY fixes is nigh on impossible. :/ Thankfully, Calico Station is a local certified Bernina repair shop. I took my machine in during the week, and was told the tech would look over it to diagnose the problem ($65/hr for that) and then call me with the problem and next steps. I was terrified I would be seriously overcharged, but what could I do? It was a week later when I got a call from a somewhat gruff man telling me my power supply had failed, and I asked to order the part and go ahead with the repair. He did not tell me what it would cost in labor, or how much the part was. (The docking of a star in the review.) I was certain at this point I would get my machine with a $500 bill. My machine was fixed a week after that (2 week turnaround) and cost $250, including the diagnosis fee. Not too bad... The best part was that the technician also cleaned and did some other magic on my Bernina that makes her sew like brand new again! Perfect tension, no dragging fabric, and a straight feed once more! read more
