Beyond old school place that's been here for many decades. My mom used to come here whenever she needed new curtains, wallpaper, design a pillow, or anything she needed for the home. This place is basically for customization. You would pick the fabric and they will make it into anything for you. I've been coming to this location for over 20 yrs. The consultants change-- but the quality of fabrics and finishing doesn't. This time,Betsy helped me triage through bolts and bolts of fabric (organized by colors) and recommended those closest to my inspiration photos. She took plenty of time with me. Callico will never be an inexpensive option, but compared to a designer, they let you take your time. And if all you need are re-fresh curtains or a sofa remodel, they're a very reasonable choice. I used them to upholster a moroccan banquette to be used in the living room. So basically a wooden platform with a mattress on top. They did an excellent job. The workmanship was incredible, the man who helped me pick out the fabric got a sense of what I was looking for and found a perfect design. I worked with Terri on this cute antique bench I picked up from an estate sale and she was great! She was very understanding when it took me 4.5 months to strip all the gold paint off the bench. She'd check in once a month or so to check on my progress, which was reassuring to know she hadn't forgotten about me! Once I brought it in, she estimated 8-10 weeks for completion. I was so excited when she called at 7 weeks to say it was done! I couldn't be happier with the results! We picked a performance fabric which so far has been standing up great to my cat. Additionally, without me asking, they added zippers to the bolsters which is so handy for cleaning! Overall thrilled with the results and will definitely use them again! read more

Well I guess this is where we had our "Pretty Woman" experience. Didn't see that coming. We just purchased a home in Arcadia and I wanted to find some wallpaper to make a little "wow" factor in the foyer. We received a flyer and coupon from Calico Corners so my husband and I headed over there while on renovation break. The first woman we encountered (didn't get her name as she didn't introduce herself) was horrid. She looked us up and down as if we didn't have two cents to rub together. I explained we wanted something "tropical" she pointed over at a bookshelf and let us know we can look through the samples. She didn't even walk over. Her co-worker actually picked up the books and handed them to us. We weren't even directed by her to have a seat or a location where we can look through the books. Once again the gentleman who worked there kindly seated us and left us to look through the swatches. We were, for the most part, left alone without any help or suggestions until we got up to leave and the other associate (there were three, no names given) suggested that if we see something we like online we order a swatch. I wouldn't step foot back in that store if you paid me. They treated us as if we weren't potential clients rather just two bums off the street. This is especially surprising in a place like LA where you really don't know who anyone is so you can't judge someone by their clothes, ethnicity, or some other factor. Well. Honestly why would anyone do that anyway. That's a given. Long story short, drive to Walnut Wallpaper, received lovely treatment, they didn't have exactly what we wanted however they searched until they found it and ordered our wallpaper. I took my dining chairs in to get a quote to re-upholster them. They required that I set up an account/profile before getting a price, which involved giving my number and email. That took 20 mins, and then it was another 30 mins sitting with a sales associate at her computer, entering who knows what. She then finally quoted me...$4,149. to upholster 6 dining chairs! Totally crazy overpriced. I can buy an entire dining room set for half that. I went elsewhere to a small business for re-upholstery and it was way cheaper. read more

if you're looking to work with a really nice group of people, Calico Corners on Foothill Blvd in Pasadena is the place for you. They seem to have quality fabrics & wallpaper and a pretty good selection of everything. If you want quality craftsmanship on the first attempt, don't use this store. You might need at least 2 rounds to get your furniture done correctly and getting the store/craftsman to return to fix their failed first attempt might really try your patience. If you want good customer service post sale, don't use this store. Once you pay them, they'll ghost you on post-sale problems UNLESS you have financial leverage like putting a stop payment on their payment or taking them to small claims court. I'm speaking from first-hand experience. My story is too long to tell here. Just know I took 2 pieces of furniture to them. Upon return, both were done poorly. One has been corrected but only after I stopped payment and the other, I'm having to take them to small claims court. Just take my word, they're super nice but have zero customer service post sale. Working with them might be more taxing and time consuming than you're willing to invest. But, they're nice. You can tell from the reviews, people either have a great experience (4/5 stars) or a bad one (1/2) star. Very little in between. UPDATE: 4 hours after letting Calico Corners know I was filing a Small Claims case against them the slipcover guy got a hold of me. Like I mentioned above, you have to keep & use financial leverage with these guys. My mother and I had an old couch of my grandmother's from the 1940's that we did NOT want to get rid of, so we reached out to Calico Corners to reupholster and modernize it. The results were incredible! We were able to take a very dated looking piece of furniture and give it a new lease on life with a more modern look that fits perfectly in my office at work. They did a fantastic job reupholstering it; even though it was a little pricey I'd say it was definitely worth it! My only real complaint was in the amount of communication provided by Calico Corner as to when it was available and what the progress was on the furniture. It did take a decent amount of time to be completed, and communication with Calico was usually left on "You'll hear from someone in a few days," only to never actually hear from anyone. We had the best experience with Julie at Calico. She gave us specific instructions on exactly how to measure custom cushions to some antique furniture we wanted to bring new life to. She knew the perfect fabrics to show and made the entire process fun and easy. Truly a dream come true for someone who completely relies on the professionals for design and durability. After being ignored, I was literally the only person in the store for a while, I got assistance with a remnant that I found . The snobby woman at the desk summoned up a minion to assist me . The girl asked me to wait while she took it in the back to measure it .The remnant in question was a full sized upholstery fabric . I even unrolled it a little to see how much was there . She came back with the same fabric but it was maybe 24" wide and was cut on both sides . She said it was less than a yard . It was a piece that was probably unusable for most upholstery purposes . It was NOT the remnant that I gave her ! She then tried to sell me one of their special order fabrics which is pretty much the whole store . I left ! read more

I love the fabric choices! It is a rather high-end store and primarily carries unique fabrics for curtains and upholstery. Some of the salespeople do seem a bit snobbish but I just focus on looking for what I want and don't let them bother me! I always try to engage people in humorous conversation and perhaps that breaks the ice! High quality merchandise but marginal service! If you are intimidated by someone looking at you as though you'd just crawled out from under a rock, then don't go! If on the other hand you want to pay fair prices for fabulous fabrics, this is the place for you! This was my review from 2/7/14 I gave this business 4 stars. I am finally updating the above review . My beautiful roman shades have broken three times and Kevin has come and repaired them. Last weekend, once again they broke. (The strings that pull them up break and the shades fall to the floor.) The shades cover the large window in the room and with them down, the room is extremely dark. This room is the main sitting room/den for us. I called on Sunday and was told that Bonnie would call me on Monday. I did not receive a call so called them on Tuesday. Bonnie told me that Kevin would call me and that the repair would be $120 (or $140?). Fine. We really need the shade fixed. Today is Saturday and still I have heard nothing. So, I once again call to inquire. The person who answered the phone told me that I would go on a "check status list"!!! What the heck? I inquired further and was told that Kevin had been working on two projects and was now on vacation and that someone would call me with an update NEXT WEEK. Ugh. I spent a ton of money on two roman shades and velvet curtains. Of course, nothing lasts forever but I would think that 5 years is not too long a life span for roman shades that are pulled only once a day! More than that, the customer service is dreadful. My final comment has to do with the lengthy, poorly read narrative to which every caller is forced to endure before finally reaching an employee. read more

The review is a mixed bag -- they get a 5 for beautiful fabrics, but after spending over 1200 dollars on a shade and almost 200 dollars to measure (took 5 minutes) and 200 dollars to install (10 minutes), we never even got a call back from the store to see if we were happy. Funny, when we bought a Stressless chair from Fedde furniture, we received a call from our salesperson to see if we were happy, as well as a handwritten note thanking us for our business. I've been going to this store for years and years. In fact, I started going to Calico Corners when it was truly a bargain store and fabrics were all seconds and dirt cheap! I've gone along with all the changes over the years and have bought countless yards of fabric from both this store and the Studio City store. The sales staff has always been nice and friendly, some more than others. The fabric selection used to be fabulous, but in the past 6-8 years...it's really gone downhill. I'm not sure why, maybe new owners or management, but after my trip there today...I just had to write this review expressing my displeasure. First, I hadn't been in the store for several month, not needing any fabric for design projects. But, what happened to all the employees that have worked in this store for many, many years? They're ALL gone! Completely new salespeople. They tried to be helpful, but they obviously didn't know much about anything. They all seemed like it was their first day on the job!! Now, that's OK, everyone has to go through a learning process, but it was just odd not to see at least one face I recognized. Second, the fabric selection is not what it used to be. Higher prices and in some cases not the quality that I've seen in years past. And what's with all the fabrics that designers have attached their "name" to? Some of it is pretty sad!! I know that there have been major changes in the fabric industry, with manufacturers only putting fabrics into production after orders for "X" amount of yardage have been met. And I realize that things change and that's just the way it is. But I guess I feel that the changes at Calico Corners are NOT for the better. So...I'm sad because there is really nowhere else to get nice upholstery fabrics without going to the Pacific Design Center....and if you think Calico's fabrics are pricey, they're nothing compared to the prices at those designer showrooms. read more

BEWARE!!!! THIS BUSINESS IS RUNNING A SCAM!!! What you order is not what you received. It happened to me not one, but 3 times!!! They have beautiful samples and give you a sash, you order the fabric and they send you a cheap version of what you order, not the same shade and not the same quality. And, if that wasn't enough, the costumer service is awful!!! The manager do not listen to you, she just argue with you. So please be aware!!! do not buy from Calico Corners!!! KAFKA-ESQUE NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! NEVER EVER EVER BUY ANY CUSTOM FABRICATION FROM THIS STORE. NOT ONLY did they constantly lose my information and never provide anyone to talk with who had ANY memory of me or my order... NOT ONLY does nobody EVER call back after promising to go dig up our paperwork... NOT ONLY did they charge me IN FULL on order, deliver three months late, and then DOUBLE-BILL me... NOT ONLY did their accounting people NEVER call so that I had to use my credit card company to demand a refund on my behalf... NOT ONLY are they still dragging their feet and fighting with my credit card company over a refund ONE YEAR LATER... I don't know of any design store in the area that carries such a wide variety of current styles and colors. I have used Calico Corners for over 30 years. The fabrics that the Pasadena store offers are lovely. I have also purchased their trimmings. I have made on curtains and pillows for a family cabin in the Lake Tahoe area with CC fabric I purchased. Four years ago, we re-painted our house and changed some of the wall colors, so I had Calico Corners make a bed skirt for us, and I made decorative pillows with with the same fabric for our bed. We just had Calico Corners (helped by Karen) re-upholster a chair for our bedroom. The fabric is gorgeous; our 2-year old granddaughter got into the chair by her self and announced the fabric was "so soft". I will always go to Calico Corners first for any furniture decoration. With Julie's professional guidance we easily put together a great new look for the living room including reupholstered furniture, pillows and window coverings. I feel we really worked well as a team. We have done business with Calico for many years and have always had a good experience. Recently we ordered Hunter Douglas Duette blinds through them, and the result was perfect! Further, we had boxed cushions for 8 dining chairs and a slipcover for a large chair done for our condo in Mammoth. The result was excellent, and Karen was wonderful to work with. I used Calico Corners about eight years ago to do custom drapes for one room and to reupholster three armchairs. The job they did was fabulous! So when I wanted drapes for two more rooms this year I knew I could count on Calico to do the best job. And I was so right! Terry Lamont took me through all their wonderful fabrics and helped me with wonderful advice. So very professional and a delight to work with. And Kevin, who installed our drapes last time, was back to measure and install the drapes again this time. What a professional he is! And Terry and Kevin worked to gether to handle a difficuly window corner I had. The workmanship in all the products is beyond great - it is perfection itself! I need to have another armchair covered and drapes for another room and of course I shall return to Calico in Pasadena for that. Also, Terry hleped me get my order in time to get in on the big sale, so I was able to get the drapes for that second room. I placed my order Oct 2016 and they gladly charged me $4K to process the order and my curtains weren't installed until the 2nd week in January. I went to the showroom and Julie knew exactly what I needed. They were having a great sale on the most gorgeous & durable fabric. I returned to Calico to have shutters, roman shades, and sheer roller shades installed in a few rooms. I have many roman shades from Calico Corners from 1998 and they are still in very good condition! Calico designer Julie Bennett came to my home and helped me choose some nice fabrics. David did a wonderful job installing the shades and shutters and so did Kevin who installed the romans. I would highly recommend going to Calico who has a amazing collection of fabrics and products and great customer service. read more

I told her that I was extremely concerned that I first could not get any action on my order and now I can't seem to get a refund either...and if they can't get me a refund tomorrow, I will be forced to take this matter up with my credit card company as a disputed charge. The ladies in the store were so unbelievably rude to me. I almost walked out after being ignored for the 3rd time after asking for help. Then a gentleman in his 20's came to help me. I've never been so treated so rudely. One lady on a computer literally looked down her nose at me as if I had no right to ask her for assistance. I could not belive it. I went to Calico to get some custom roman shades for my bathroom.They had so many beautiful fabrics that I ended up getting a bunch of samples sent to me for free. I prefer to see things in person rather than online because you never know how the quality is going to be like after you order and it's too late. Julie was super helpful and personable in the whole design process. I was also curious about their re- upholstery service. She took the time to explain the pros and cons of each fabric since I have two dogs that jump on everything. From start to finish ( which was way over an hour ) , Julie was really professional and made the experience worth it. since I wrote my previous review, most of the curtains installed by Calico Corners have started pulling out of the plaster walls in my house. These are curtains that do not get opened and closed on a daily basis, so it is clearly from poor installation. I would definitely avoid this place if you want actual service and quality installs. This store is the worst I have ever experienced in customer service. The staff there is rude and incompetent, and they know nothing about fabric or sewing. Furthermore, there is never anyone in charge. They rip customers off and try to get away with it. I purchased 4 and a half yards of fabric there in Oct. 2013 and got only 4 yards. When I took a day off from work to return it, they told me to go away and come back when a manager was there. I persisted (never pleasant when you are a cheated customer.) Then they tried to blame it on me, saying the fabric had shrunk. I explained to them that fabric doesn't shrink only in one direction; otherwise it would get puckered. They finally measured the fabric, saw I was right, and agreed to send me the correct amount. I left my incorrect amount there. That was a month ago (it's mid-December 2013). I paid $62 for this fabric and still have nothing. I called today, and they said it should arrive today (Sunday). The person there was just lying to get rid of me. Calico Corners Pasadena, Calif. is worth no stars. I will never shop there again and you shouldn't either. It's also very expensive. Overpriced in fact. I recommend you go to Joanne's in La Canada (the staff actually knows how to sew and upholster) or of course to Mike Levine's. read more

14 MONTHS!! That's how long it took to complete my order of 6 Roman shades! This was NOT a Covid related delay. It was poor workmanship. After a 4 month wait from placing my order (again prior to Covid) my shades arrived. The valances were sewn so poorly! Rather than trim off the fabric that gathered at the corner and create a seam, the excess fabric was folded under and tacked down creating a bulky corner that would not stay in place. On one valance they only tacked down one side! One of the bathroom shades was made with the wrong fabric! I immediately contacted my salesperson. She came to my home and agreed they were not acceptable. The bathroom shade was returned to be made with the correct fabric. During that time I added one more shade to my order so all my kitchen windows would all be complete. When the additional shade and new bathroom shade were installed I saw the valances were different from the others (much better). I asked why I was given two different valances. Remember one was in the same room as the first set and didn't match! Then the manager, Betsy, go involved. Big mistake. She said the first valances were to "Calico standards" and if I wanted the newer valances on the original shades, the shades would have to be completely remade from scratch at MY COST! They were $1000 each - so $4000 on top of the $6000 already spent! After a back and forth with her she finally agreed to split the cost with me and lo and behold only the valances needed to be remade. She charged me $250. After a total wait of an additional 10 months yes MONTHS not weeks (3 weeks due to Covid according to Betsy) I just had the last shade installed yesterday. Oh and when that was delivered 8 weeks ago it had a broken spring and would not roll up so they took it back to the workroom for repair! I ordered these in 2019 and the order was completed for the first time on February 23, 2021! Sorry but this shop used to be good. I have nothing good to say about Calico Corners except that I won't be stressed by the poor service again. If they deny any ANY of this .... I kept every text and email. I ordered a pair of sheer draperies with a 4-inch hem per signed contract in late July 2013. The finished product turns out to be a European hem. I called the store and offered to send a picture of the drapery hem via email to save my driving back and forth. I was told that I had to bring the drapery back for them to see. While at the store, I was told that the fabric did not have sufficient length to make the 4-inch hem and the maker made the decision to go with the European hem. And, they said to me that the European hem was "better." I thought I was getting an "expert" advice when I ordered the draperies. The lack of expertise of the store employee caused such a mistake. Instead of acknowledging it, he said there would be no fabric fitting my window length, which is a mere 93.5 inch long. He didn't tell me this until after the draperies were finished. Second, there was no phone call during the drapery process to alert me the change of hemming method. Third, in today's Internet age, I couldn't believe that the store employee would ask me to drive there just to turn his back on me. Finally, the store manager was supposed to call me on September 25 but she never did. read more

The showroom at Calico Corners is beautiful. I love browsing among the samples, it is not a place to be in a hurry. Lovely, tasteful displays are super helpful for creating vision and inspiration. Nothing beats handling the fabrics, feeling their weight and drape and texture. You can go in with no plan and come out bursting with ideas and wanting yards and yards of these globally produced textiles. The store manager, Ramos, is a peach. She is friendly and eager to please. The trunk show I attended was a delight. The tea party was charming and well planned, with china with all the dainty sandwiches and scones a girl could dream of, all artfully laid out for attendees. I felt spoiled. When it was time to open the trunk and display all the new patterns and colors, well, 'Wow'. I got a primer on what is new and on trend for 2014, and a mint Julep besides. I do not currently have a chair to reupholster, but now I am thinking of sewing an amazing jacket or vest out of the gorgeous textiles I saw. I should have worn a hat like the flyer encouraged me to do! I won't miss it next year. read more
