I went to this shop for an estimate after a very minor fender bender, and the quote I received was extremely inflated. They charged for 9 hours of labor at $144/hr (over $1,200 in labor alone) for a simple bumper issue. On top of that, they added 4.4 hours of "paint supplies" at $71/hr, which came out to over $300 just for supplies -- something that should never be billed by the hour. When I showed the estimate to family members with experience in car repairs, they were shocked by the numbers. The total came to nearly $1,830 for work that most independent shops would quote at half the price. It felt like the shop was trying to take advantage of the situation. Had a car crash into a closed garage and needed to get an estimate for fixing paint and scratches. Aaron at Caliber Collision was able to get me a same day appointment and was so helpful with assessing my car's damage. Turned out I actually didn't need to fix much, they were able to get most of the garage paint off the car and found it wasn't scratched, and Aaron gave me recommendations for where I could go to get the best deal on cleaning up and detailing my car's paint job. They did not even charge me for the time they spent getting the paint off and assessing for damage! Would definitely go back for any car damage I have in the future! read more

I won't be getting my car fixed here after this experience. I was rear ended and referred here by my insurance company. Setting up the appointment for the estimate was easy enough. I went in for the estimate on November 12th, but received a call 3 days later saying that I needed to schedule a new appointment since I "didn't show up." I told them that I HAD shown up, they took pictures and measurements and everything. They said they would get back to me. A week and a half goes by, and I still haven't heard about the estimate. I call Caliber on November 23rd. They can't find my information. They put me on hold for a long time and when they come back they say "oh we had sent that estimate to your insurance already, they never got back to us." I knew this to be false, because I had been in contact with my insurance rep, who was very responsive and waiting for Caliber's estimate. Then the receptionist gets rude and says "what do you want?" And I go "ummm...to receive the estimate and schedule my appointment?" She says they will call me back. Now it is December 2nd and I still haven't heard anything from Caliber. I call my insurance company and they said Caliber told them they sent me an estimate. Nope. Never happened. So my insurance co sends me the estimate and I discover that, just like I thought, Caliber didn't send them the estimate until the 23rd, when I had to call and remind them, and they straight up LIED to me and told me they had already sent it! Now I get it, stuff happens, but I'd rather you just say "look I'm sorry this slipped through the cracks, we're getting to it now" than be rude to me and try to blame my insurance company. That was it for me. I'm taking my car elsewhere to be repaired. Way too many mistakes to trust my car with this place. Btw, I also found out from the estimate that they claimed my car was towed in (it wasn't- I drove it in), and that they claimed to have sent me the estimate (they didn't). I guess if you want getting an estimate to be the hardest part of being rear-ended, this is just the place for you! Otherwise, I highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

During the time of picking up my car after the accident, was told that all is clean, and repairs are done. On a way home, noticed that car was not stable on the road. Tire pressure moved from 29 psi to 2 after getting home. In addition, noticed manufacturing dust all over the trunk aria (which took 3 hours to clean). Called the shop but was told "we don't clean the car" and "tire is not our problem". Car was given originally prior the repairs after it was cleaned, but received it back is a horrible dirty condition with a hole in a tire. Why? Repairs were paid by my insurance for $14K and there were not enough funds to check tires and give back the car in original clean conditio? read more

THE WORST CAR REPAIR EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD. IRRESPONSIBLE AND RUDE STAFF! I brought in my car to fix at their shop because it was one of the few car repair shops available at Davis. They told me that the new part would arrive one week later and that my car will be ready within one week. A week later they claim that the new part has only just been ordered and that they are not sure when it will arrive. 10 days passed by and I was in a hurry to use my car because I needed it for a long distance business trip two days later. So I told them not to worry about it and just put the old part back for me and I was willing to pay the $140 fee since I needed the car immediately. They said it would be ready the next day. Next day I called them and it took about 1 hour of waiting on the phone and transferring between 3 different people before I could reach them. When I managed to reach them, they said the car was still not available for pickup! They said their manager was away on leave and will only be able to address my question tomorrow. I asked if there was another staff member who could help but they kept pushing the blame to each other and said that their manager was in charge of it and they had no idea why the manager was unable to resolve the issue effectively! HORRIBLE TEAMWORK AND CONSTANT PUSHING OF BLAME AROUND! I decided to take matters into my own hands and went down to the office in person, yet they continued to state that their manager was away and pushed the blame about. I felt angry, helpless, cheated, and left defeatedly. An hour later I got a call saying that they had put the old part back into my car. They said their technician managed to put the old part of the car back. I was relieved but in DISBELIEF. THAT WAS A ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS. So it was really that easy for them to put it back but they were being LAZY AND IRRESPONSIBLE. It took A LOT of following up with them, interrogating, and pressing for information before they finally relented and did what I paid them to do!! When I went to pick up my car in the office, the older female staff member with spectacles was very scornful, dismissive and contemptuous. The young blonde female staff member was also laughing at the situation and mocking me for the disaster I was in. These ASSHOLES know they can get away with being rude and unprofessional because they are one of the few car repair shops in Davis and everyone needs their service. Avoid if possible Customer service: average Paint job: good Bodywork: terrible Quality control: damn joke Long story short, the driver side fender of my car is damaged and needs to be replaced. After the repair, the driver side gap between the bumper and hood is twice as large as the passenger side. The bumper is not aligned correctly with the fender. The fender is also not flash with the door panel on the repaired side while the passenger side is completely flush. You have to be blind to overlook these issues and let the car pass the quality check. I tried to work with the shop to fix it, bring the car back to them 3 times and all I got is the bullsh*t answer that everything is within tolerance so it is fine and they refuse to fix it. Basically, they do not care about your car, as long as everything is within tolerance then it is fine, even if it looks like crap and they can definitely spend some effort to make it better. I have used Caliber Collision a couple of times and highly recommend their services. They have been on time or early with their repair estimates and the quality of their work is exemplary. My latest experience with them was fantastic. We had a couple of large, deep scratches on one of our car doors that we wanted to repair rather than repaint. They contacted me an hour before their estimated completion time to let me know that they were not able to remove them completely. When I picked up the car, I could not find any evidence of the scratches! They showed me where one of them could be seen if the light was just right, but I would not have found it on my own; their standards are obviously very high. The staff at Caliber Collision was friendly and responsive every time that I have had contact with them. They are organized and were always able to answer my questions quickly. If I have a need for auto body work in the future, Caliber Collision will be my first choice. read more

Customer service was good. Came in for a quote on a simple tab replacement on my bumper and was helped right away. Unfortunately I made the mistake of discussing my deductible and was hit with a quote the next day double what was discussed with a complete replacement of my front end minus the headlights in hopes I would use my insurance I'm sure. Went in to get car door replaced. I went to pick up the car after the repair was done. As soon as I got behind the wheel and started driving away, I knew they had messed with something under the hood. The car just felt different when I was driving it, but I couldn't put my finger on what specifically. Then I noticed the jerky transmission and not shifting smoothly once in awhile, which was weird to me because my car wasn't doing that AT ALL before the door repair. Then, lo and behold, I discover that my gas mileage is WAY WORSE than it was before I took my car here for the door repair. I don't know what they messed with under the hood, but there was absolutely NO NEED for them to alter anything under the hood for a door repair. Avoid this place and go to an honest, reputable car repair shop. I will NEVER go to this place EVER again. Dishonest. Stay away.
