I recently decided it was time to give my motorcycle a new paint job. Being somewhat handy I considered doing it myself. But also with some trepidation thought I'd put out a feeler on Craigslist too. Got a message from Jesse and after some discussion he agreed to paint it for a very reasonable charge. When all was said and done it wasn't much more than it would've been if I'd bought all the supplies and paint myself plus my time. I will admit that I was very unsure about taking my beloved motorcycle to a guy I didn't know, let alone one on Craigslist. Well, the parts have come back and everything looks great. Beyond that Jesse was very adamant that if I ever had any problems with the paint job over the next five years that he'd do it again. I believe him. It's a little bit of a trek from Santa Monica, so dropped off my parts late one weeknight and picked them up Saturday afternoon. If you're out his way or just looking for a good paint job at a great price, give him a shot. As I said, if you're not happy, he'll work to make sure you are.
Update:
I'm sorry to say that unfortunately all did not work out well. When i first got the tank back it had some mistakes and needed to be repainted. Driving out there and then back with the tank repainted I realized it didn't match the white that was on the other pieces. Ultimately I took the bike to another painter who said, coloring aside, the first job wasn't done correctly and peeling off and he'd have to sand to the metal and re-prime. that cost another hundred dollars on top of the new paint job. I very much hope that Cali Kustoms figures out what they're doing and I deeply regret if anyone went there based on my review and was unhappy with their paint job as well. i don't imagine i'll get refunded, this being craigslist and all. lessons learned: get your stuff painted locally, don't pick a painter who doesn't have more than a few reviews or whose work you've actually seen, forget that you're ever going to get a great deal on a paint job and be happy with it. if you find the right person and you're firm, you should be able to get a fair deal. read more
