Looking for great tasting Indian food in the city of Long Beach? Then look no further and make your way to Cali Chilli located off Viking Way which is accessible from Bellflower Blvd off the 91 freeway or off of Carson from the 605 freeway. Cali Chilli Kitchen & Bar is one of two locations in Southern California and this particular location has free parking and in a well lit area that seems safe and parking that is just a few feet away from the front entrance. We have been here during the day as "Pancake" which is great for breakfast or brunch, but if you would like to try their lunch or dinner menu, then Cali Chilli is the same spot which features a Michelin Chef from India. I ordered the chicken Momo for an appetizer, the chicken truffle tandoori as my entree, butter naan, and the chai tea latte as my beverage. The chicken Momo came as 5 pieces and it came with a soya sauce and a mayo combination sauce which both complimented the flavor of the chicken well. I love momos so I am partial to this appetizer which I could have eaten by myself, but was generous enough to share with my husband. The chicken truffle had a delicious cream sauce reminiscent of the gravy I had when I was here for the "Pancake" breakfast last year for Valentine's, it was creamy and was the real star of this dish. The butter naan was good especially to sop up the vindaloo entree that my husband ordered. The chai tea latte served as both a drink and a dessert for me, had just enough sweetness yet not overly sweet, perfect compliment and palate cleanser to my dish. I contemplated ordering a dessert such as the chai tiramisu, but opted out due to time and I was full. It was getting late, about 8pm on a Monday (2/23/2026) and being that it was a school night for my son, we decided to end our meal which we happily finished and provided a 20% tip. Make sure to call ahead or make a reservation just in case because it has about 10 table seatings along with bar seating available, however it did appear to be a small space for more intimate dining and not so much for large groups. The new orders were the Falooda and Cali Chilli Nachos (chicken). Sorry Starbucks but there's a new pink drink in town and it's got my name on it. The Falooda tastes like a sweet flower mixed with ice cream. Try it and you'll know exactly what I mean. Meanwhile, the nachos, the chicken itself is review worthy. Cali Chili has been on my must try list and it did not disappoint. The food took a bit of time to prepare but it was well worth the wait. It shows that they pay attention to details. Our side of rice was served in a hot bowl that remained hot the entire meal, wonderful planning and execution. Pani puri came with plenty of dressing; each one was unique in flavor that complimented each other well. The chicken momos were similar to great Chinese dumplings. Very juicy in the inside and served with sauces that we wanted to put on everything. The Szechuan sauce is not just sriracha and mayo, just delightful. Who knew you could tandoori sea bass? They've done it to perfection. Flakey and still juicy! My favorite dish of the meal. The burrata in the saag paneer wasn't my favorite but I like the bold interpretation of the classic. I think my only thing is that yes, the pani puri was good, but I'm used to them just putting a bunch of them and the filling on a metal cafeteria plate and just throwing them on but they had like 4-5 of them each on it's own shot glass, and I thought that the value of it was kind of not there, kinda expensive for how little you get. The green sauce is always the best to me, I can drink that shit. What took away a star was kind of the service, or rather what happened before and after. We were able to get a reservation, but the restaurant closed 30 or an hour after the reservation so we were rushed immediately to order. As in, hey guys we're going to close the kitchen soon, please make your order within 5 minutes type of deal. WHY HAVE OPEN RESSIES BY THEN?? So that's fine, we were able to order a bunch of stuff from the recommendation from the waiter. All in all he was nice. He did inform us that the added gratuity did NOT go to him or the waitstaff but directly to the restaurant so I believe we added tip on top of that...but someone in our party called the restaurant and they said that was simply not true. Also, not sure if we got the $10 reservation taken off either. It was just bizzare and honestly because of that I'll probably not come back again especially with a large party and with a reservation. I'd rather just come in as a drop in because their food was in fact pretty good. It is a fancier version of the typical indian food you would get. Came for lunch with a friend after hubby ate here for a work related dinner. He liked it so I wanted to give it a try. Wait staff was very accommodating and kind. We ordered the shooters which were a great treat! One was a buttermilk base, one was mint and one was mango. We loved all three! From there we dug into the paneer rendeng- a wonderful and complex dish with chunks of fresh paneer wrapped in a fragrant and tasty blend of spices and veggies. Probably my new go to spot for Indian food. Their slogan is "un-authentic" Indian food. They take traditional flavors & spices and basically remix classic Indian entrees. Trust me when I say, this is a must visit restaurant for all foodies. Service was top notch from Mara and the ambiance gives modern bar/lounge vibes but yet you feel right at home. My boss and I came right when they opened for lunch yesterday at 12pm and went family style. We ordered 2 shareable dishes and 2 large plates to get a variety of the menu. Everything was outstanding. I'll definitely be back soon to try other items on the menu and I'm going to bring a bigger group cause the place looks like you can have some major fun with their full bar. I had Cali Chilli bookmarked for a while, so was glad I finally got to try it when I was in the area. I managed to find street parking nearby, but there is not a ton of parking so be forewarned. The inside is gorgeous and not what you would expect from the exterior appearance. Unfortunately, the day I visited they were having internet issues so could only accept cash. I had to go withdraw cash from an ATM across the street since their dishes are not cheap. Service was fine, and the menu was diverse (I particularly appreciated all of the zero proof drink options). We ended up ordering the butter chicken pot pie and the lunch special with eggplant and lentils. The lunch special is still a bit pricey at $30, but it comes with salad, garlic naan, and saffron rice (and the rice had real saffron in it). Both the eggplant and lentil dishes were flavorful and outstanding. The garlic naan was just a little bit burnt, but otherwise tasty, and I noticed that the naan was thicker than other places. I would have liked an even flakier puff pastry top for the pot pie, but the butter chicken was piping hot and bathed in a very rich sauce. We also had a nice cup of hot chai and the chai tiramisu for dessert. The chai tiramisu was very well presented though the chai flavor didn't come out enough for me. Overall, the quality and flavors of Cali Chilli definitely shine, but this is reflected also in its significantly higher prices. read more

Honestly the worst experience I've ever had dining out. There was no acknowledgment or greet to guests upon entry and the server is very condescending. I would point to items on the menu and he would say you need to tell me what it is because I can't read. I ordered the lasagna which was amazing I asked for dessert and told him that I would probably order it later and he said do you really want the dessert because you said probably. I asked for the check twice as I had to be at an appointment that I was running late for and to box up my dessert to go. He ran my payment while on the phone and I asked him if the dessert was ready because I had to go to which he didn't respond. He got off the phone and I signed my receipt to which he attended to other guests. I turned to leave and he then responded are you going to wait for your dessert. Their food is very tasty. I made two visits. I love the service and the food. My only issue was the second time I came they sat me in the wrong seat and asked me to move. I think o could have gotten over it had they offered something...that is kind of awkward to ask us to move to take care of a large party after we were settled. Secondly they pushed us out to accommodate a reservation and that felt weird too. To start, we tried the Pani Puri Poppers, which were not only tasty, but also fun. It comes with a shot of sauce that you pour in the Pani Puri before popping it into your mouth. For our main courses, we chose the Butter Chicken Pot Pie and Cali Chilli Rendang (plus a side of rice). The Butter Chicken Pot Pie was a standout; the flaky, buttery crust dipped in the rich butter chicken filling was delicious. I would definitely order it again! What a fantastic hole in the wall! We ordered the puri poppers to start, and for entrees, we ordered the old school tikka masala, lamb biryani, saag paneer, and butter chicken pot pie. The puri poppers were a tasty appetizer and I thought it was cool how you could drink the sauces after like a shot. The portion of the tikka masala was tiny, but the flavor made up for it. Each bite of chicken was tender and flavorful. I loved how unique yet familiar it was to other ones I've tried. The lamb biryani was a good portion for the price compared to the others. The lamb was also tender and fell off the bone. The saag paneer and butter chicken with naan were delicious. The food took a little long to come out, but worth the wait. We came here for a late lunch. The place looks really nondescript and possibly under construction from the outside. Looked really dark from the outside, and we actually weren't even sure if they were open at first. Then we stepped inside. What a difference! High ceilings! They have a bar that looks stunning! There was only one other party there at that time. They seated us at a nook at the front of the restaurant. However, because we were seated there, it made it really hard for us to get the server's attention. When the server did come by, he helped explain the menu. He knew the menu very well and did a great job of explaining their most popular items and describing the dishes. Their menu is really interesting, a great mix of traditional items and really innovative fusion with different cuisines (not just Indian-American). We ordered the pan puri appetizer. It was interesting and definitely an experience. Tasty, but I think it just wasn't for me. For the entrees, we ordered the beef short ribs, which was our server's favorite item, and the Cali Chili pot pie, which is one of their most popular items, and a couple orders of the naan. The beef short ribs were amazing! The meat was basically falling off the bone, and the curry that accompanied it delicious! The pot pie is really innovative - curry with puff pastry is brilliant, but I do wish that they cut chicken into smaller pieces, because I kept fishing out giant pieces of chicken that did not fit into bite sized pieces with the puff pastry. It is a great restaurant for special occasions. Outstanding service! Michelin star attention to detail and professionalism. We loved most of what we got. I believe some of the spices could have been more complex or had more of a wow factor. Also, I understand the presentation and the precision of fine dining. We just felt the portions could have been a bit bigger based on the price point. We got the Butter Chicken Pot Pie ($26), which was fun to look at, but functionally wasn't very fun to eat. Flaky pastry falling off that could be eaten separately but wasn't designed to necessarily be eaten with the chicken and sauce. The chicken could have been more savory and juicy. The Lobster Moilee ($49) was an even heftier price tag, and was just enough for 1 person and not really enough to share. I also had a Mango Passion Fruit Rose Lassi and it was delicious ($6). Appreciated the many zero proof drink options. It was my birthday, so they brought out an amazing birthday dessert that I wish I took notes on. A mix of savory and sweet ice cream with exotic spices is all I can say. Maybe some cardamom in there. Either way, I felt special. Great atmosphere, great service, a fancy experience. I was so excited when I saw that Cali Chilli was on the list of restaurants participating in DineLA's Restaurant Week from 1/24/25 - 2/7/25 and immediately made a reservation! I had high expectations from positive reviews from a fellow foodie coworker of mine. Glad to share that I had an amazing experience dining here for lunch! The ambiance is gorgeous and chic, service was excellent, and the food was SO delicious! I ordered the Cauliflower Fritters, Cali Sticky Ribs, and Butter Chicken Wings. My order came with Saffron Rice and Garlic Naan. My food was so flavorful and fragrant. Dessert was a creamy and tart panna cotta with berries. The truffle flavor was missing on the truffle chicken. The curry on the pot pie was not correctly balanced. The mushroom was overpoweringly Dijon-y. Three of us, the same people who went the first time agreed that the flavors were just not there tonight. I'm not sure we will be back after the disappointing experience. Long Beach's popular Appu's Cafe is closed on weekends, we got pretty lucky looking up this Michelin Star spot. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking, it's a unique corner plaza-esque area, despite a block party, we didn't have any issues finding parking. Seating: Inside seating, both bar and group seating is available. Space for maybe 50 people total Vibes: You're probably more in the hidden gem spots of Long Beach. Parkview plaza has some great events. The space itself is a place for everyone but moreover lowkey highend and great place to impress others or treat yourself. They have some televisions playing different channels to keep you distracted or just enjoy the chillhop music playing in the background. FOOD: Pani Puri Flight (Recommend) This is a take on their street snack - puri (hallow fried bread), with potatoes, chickpeas and pani (spiced water). A delicious bite with a good crunch and spice. The presentation and concept is something different too. After filling the puri with the pani, drinking the remainder of the liquids was like drinking a healthy juice. Garlic & Cheese Kulcha (Recommend) Whatever you order you will need some extra bread (kulcha) to enjoy with the sauce. I had quite the decision paralysis so I thought about what flavors were included in my other dishes. The garlic had a great flavorful kick and the cream cheese was not too excessive. Vindaloo - Lamb (Recommend) You have different choices to complement this flavored curry (recommend). The vindaloo wasn't too spicy but did have a good kick and really flavored, it complemented the lamb. The lamb could be delicious by itself but the curry added great flavors to it. The meat pretty much fell right off the bone! Cali Chili Powerhouse (Recommend) Lovely, just lovely. Saffron flower, green cardamom tea with milk and decorated with almonds and pistachios. A sweet and soothing drink. If you can't do a dessert then enjoy this delight. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Manass was great! Friendly and professional TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. I made a reservation just before popping in using Yelp and although I didn't need it the feature is nice to have. They were accommodating to my party if 3 (stroller included) and were able to make a wonderful drink for the Yelp check in offer (although different from what was listed.) We were also pleasantly surprised with Restaurant week and opted in for one of the prixe frixe menus and other items off the regular menu. Just like last time, we had outstanding service and all of the items we tried were incredible.
