I ordered a Jack and Coke and it was strong and inexpensive-$6. Well worth the visit if you need a no frills place, good food, golfers and locals.

Over rated. First off the weird parking lot...its like trying to park in a trailer park with lots of Austin Powers drivers. Took forever to get in...then get out to park on the street. I see another parking lot across the street with the same scenario. The wait: not bad 10 min. The service: quick at first. Food deposited. Nothing else until the bill was deposited and we were asked at that time if " everything was OK ". The food: Tri Tip was cold. Tasted like it was left over from days ago. Tough to chew. Sauce about a 3 out of 5. Nothing special. Beans had a weird left over taste as well. Fries were cold but ok. Over rated BBQ. Don't believe all the hype. The restaurant was recently on the local news crying that dinners give them low yelp scores due to the NFL Football team they support. Believe me that's not the reason for low scores. One reviewer wrote: "I have a Friend that used to be the hostess there So everytime me and my friends would go there we would always get 20% off the bill ..." Let's see, you had a friend who used to work there & give you a substantial discount on your bill, and now that they no longer are employed there you write a negative review ... Well, since the majority of other reviews were favorable, & I like finding local neighborhood style eateries, I decided to check this place out. I found the service to be friendly & attentive enough to know I wasn't forgotten. I liked how this place had a number of seperate rooms or areas for dining. It made the place feel homey & quaint. I saw their equivalent to a french dip sandwich and immediately felt a craving for one. It comes with fries but I upgraded to onion rings. The roast beef was indeed tender, & surprisingly for me with dipping it in the au jous did not need additional seasoning as I have found other local french dip style sandwiches needing. It was not a bland sandich & was seasoned quite nicely. The onion rings were good (had they been a little crisper they would have been excellent), and overall I was pleasantly surprised. I saw their breakfast menu & I think I will come here for breakfast this weekend. Edit 6/7/10: Went to breakfast here last saturday morning with a friend. The place looked fairly busy, but immediately got seated in one of the rooms. Service was prompt & friendly, and our orders came out in a very reasonable time frame. I had the Eggs Benedict with hash browns & enjoyed every bite. Both my friend & I agree the food & service was good & he said he would bring his wife out here for breakfast soon. I've been going to this restaurant for far longer than I can remember -- long before the current owners and staff were involved -- and have nothing but good/great things to say about it. If you can find a business whose owners and staff care more than the people at Cali Comfort do, you're a very lucky person. In addition to running an excellent business, they are more involved in the community -- supporting youth sports and other community type events as well as offering adults a nice place to dine, drink, watch sports and so on (in an area with no other decent restaurants I can think of) -- than any business I've ever seen. Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner -- I'm not into hanging around in bars or going to bars to watch sports on TV, so I can't speak about Cali Comfort in that area -- I've never been less than 100% satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food -- and the quality of the service -- I've received there. The idiot who wrote one of the negative reviews posted here needs to get some perspective. To expect every restaurant to be the same -- he wrote "You really cannot take a stroll around the area, like say Little Italy" -- is insane. As is anyone who, when doing ANYTHING in Spring Valley, compares it to Little Italy or almost anywhere else. I suppose his next review will be about Lake Cuyamaca, and he'll complain that the waves aren't as gnarly as the waves at Diamond Head. For the majority of us, Cali Comfort is a nice restaurant run by hard workling people who really care about doing their best -- and care about their community -- in an area in which there are few other restaurants at all, much less ones nearly as nice as this one. read more

Cali Comfort, I have been an active customer for the past year and I have been excited every time I come here. Whether it be breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just to have some cocktails this has been my favorite bar closest to my house. But as of lately, the customer service and food quality has been lacking! This place definitely does have one of the best pulled pork sandwiches in San Diego coming from customers/media all over. The one thing that needs improvement is your customer service. I have said this over and over, and I'll repeat it on this review -- you can have the best food in the world, but if your customer service is lacking -- so will business. That being said, I have been to breakfast numerous times and we've tried many different things (benedicts, french toast, waffles, etc..) and they have all been on point. Today was a different story. Shawn (owner) took care of us (by taking 20% off our tab - you would think 50% after the host/food issue) with the issues we addressed. I didn't know he was the owner till I was leaving and asked our waitress. Mind you Kaleigh is an awesome server! Here's a brief break down: The good - Best Pulled Pork sandwiches around, Great happy hour drink specials, Great for live sports events (bar has been improved), Awesome appetizers! The Bad - Customer service (major fails!), Quality of food (on one occasion), Organization (It seems staff/management aren't getting it together, they need to work as one). First of all my sister tells me we are rollin' to some place down in Spring Valley off of Bancroft for Mother's Day, and I was like "What, where?" and most importantly "WHY? Bancroft? Really?!" I was expecting to roll into some joe shmoe place like Jimmy's FAmily Restaurant or something. WAS I WRONG! The instant i opened the door to this place I was totally taken back, it was like I was suddenly transported to some Fancy Pants Establishment in Coronado! It was instant awesome, Friendly attentive staff with a wonderful floor plan lay out with classic California themed rooms. Then the smell of fresh omelets cooking wafted in the air, it tickled my nose like the first breath of spring after a cold dark winter. It was a buffet! Sitting there sipping on my Mimosa, admiring the fresh cut Roses on the table and loving the chocolate covered Strawberries, i was beginning to like this place. Did i mention that there are about 7 huge flat screen Tvs... AND a full Bar. Yeah i know what you're thinking... "Spring Valley.... Bancroft... Reallyy??" YES really!!! This place it a total Diamond in the rough.. There will be more to add to this place once i go a few more times but for how conveniently located it is, it's AWESOME! Even if it wasn't conveniently located, it's a for sure spot worth checking out if you're looking for some good ol' California Comfort, complete with the old school glass Heinz Ketchup Bottles... I just used Cali Comfort to cater my daughters wedding of over 100 guests, the food and the staff was excellent! I got so many compliments, I was very happy. They were on time, the were courtious, professional, the service was fantastic, they cleaned up everything they used and then some. The guests were really amazed at how good the all the food was! Jose, Thomas, Katherine & Lily, you guys are fantastic!! I have been eating at the Restaurant since it first opened as Cali Comfort, I used to eat there when it was Country Comfort and Country Choice, I took a break when it was leased out to a couple of different guys. When Shawn & Corey came in and took over and demoed the inside, added all the Flat screens and a full bar, it became a whole new place ,warm friendly and inviting, The breakfasts are incrediable, but the bar menu is just awesome, the sliders are soooo good, the bartenders are great and the "CALI GIRLS" do their jobs well! I have booked the BAY ROOM and the back PATIO for private parties and was not disappointed!! I left a review here a few days ago & the manager/owner (?) kindly replied to my review, so my wife, son & I tried them again the next day & liked this place even more! It's a great place to go with or without kids, but if you do have kids, there's enough here to keep them entertained before the food comes out! My only real complaint last time was the appetizer was brought out with the meal, which kind of annoyed us, but Shawn, who replied to my previous review, said he'd talk to the staff about appetizers being brought earlier & sure enough the next day we went the appetizers were brought out about 10-15 minutes before the meals. Appetizer wise, the potato skins are probably the best potato skins I've had anywhere... nice & crispy on the edges, not greasy, but not dried out either & you can actually taste the bacon on them! Wanted to try so many things on the menu, but couldn't resist ordering the pork ribs again & just as delicious as the day before... in fact, we sat outside the 2nd time & got to see one of the employees tending to the cooker outside rotating the ribs over & over which made me crave the ribs even more! Cali comfort!! Let me start by saying I am a very big fan of this sports bar and come here quite often! The food blows Phil's BBQ out of the water! The owner Shawn and manager Eric run this sports bar amazingly! This is my favorite restaurant to bring my family to because it is always a pleasing experience! Right when you walk in the door and are greeted by Chanel the hostess, who is caring and very attentive and kind, down to the servers who give 100% excellent service. These employees are well trained and really care to ensure you have the best experience possible. My family and I REALLY enjoy Mike as our server and we like to request him whenever he is there. He has given us the BEST customer service and experience we have ever gotten at a restaurant and that is a lot coming from my family because we go out to eat quite often! My extended family and all my friends would have to agree with me about mike, as they always hope he is their server when they go to Cali Comfort as well. Attending our employee event catered by Cali BBQ for over 200 people was an absolute delight! The food they served was beyond amazing. The chicken was tender and smoky, bursting with flavor. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy perfection. The corn muffins were fluffy and slightly sweet. And the potato salad had just the right amount of tanginess and plenty of BBQ sauce to go around! A friend had recommended a bbq restaurant in Spring Valley called Cali Comfort. He said it had the best ribs and meats in all of San Diego. Having just eaten there last night, all I can report is. HE WAS RIGHT!. A couple friends and I ordered an amazing assortment platter called The Tailgater. It was basically a sampling of all the best food this place offers. Ribs, Chicken, Rib Tips, Pulled Pork and more. The sides were fantastic. Coleslaw, Mac and Cheese, really unique and delicious Beans and a basket of fresh corn bread with Jalapenos in them!. I at first thought that combination would not work but it did. The Jalapenos were not hot and accented the cornbread. I will admit that we are three big guys and it was more then enough food for all. Our waitress was amazing as well. Maria was right there to greet us and had out drink orders sitting on the table within about a minute. This lovely lass, was attentive and sure knew her menu. She brought extra sauce (Which is delicious) before we could even ask for it. Her winning personality and smile will keep us coming back. Great food and great service. 5 stars from this BBQ fan. In my opinion, Cali Comfort in Spring Valley, has the best BBQ in San Diego, hands down. The tri-tip and brisket melt in your mouth. And the pork ribs are meaty, flavorful and fall off the bone. I've had the pleasure of eating there and ordering take-out. No difference in the quality or the quantity. The staff there are quality people and treat everyone very friendly and respectfully. Tara helped me with a large order and Abby gathered all the Comic-Con ducks for me. General manager, Eric is accommodating and really nice. The owner, Shawn, is a class act, passionate about the quality of the food he serves and it shows. Everyone has a great sense of humor and makes everyone feel at home. Couldn't leave without a couple of jars of their BBQ sauce. Smokey, dark, rich and just the right flavor combination. I actually signed up with Yelp just for the mere fact that I have never felt so unappreciated in my life at my experience here. I had been here one time before and the experience was pretty good and friendly with delicious food. So my family and friends all decided to make this our weekly get together spot. But the second time we came during the day and our server was Sapphire. She really gave us an unpleasant experience and didn't try to give us any good customer service and messes up our food and when we told her she was very snippy and didn't seem to care. We just ate the food anyways because we don't like any animosity. We saw her on her phone several times which we saw as in professional especially since the service we we're getting was terrible. Its to bad because my family and friends all thought we found a place to have our weekly get together at but our server really made the experience uncomfortable for us. We've lived here for years and my husband's coworker asked if we'd ever been to Cali Comfort. We hadn't.....but we had an open night and no dinner plans and OMGTHEMEATCANDYISWORTHTHETRIP!! We live only 15 minutes away.....so we came back the next night. And then our son took his girlfriend there a few nights later. And my husband just called and asked, "Do we have dinner plans? Because....I'm just down the road from Cali Comfort......will you call in an order?" So, yeah, we've become fans. Favorite dishes so far: brisket, chicken, wings and burgers. The ribs are also lip smacking delicious. And the Wedding beans. And the corn bread. And the tater tots. And the fries. And the peach cobbler. Oh, hell, you can't find a bad thing on that menu....it's ALL delicious! So we've been come recent and raving fans of Cali Comfort. Found this hidden gem after seeing the amazing-looking Chris Ello Pulled Pork sandwich on the cover of the Union Tribune. I was hesitant to take a large group to this Spring Valley spot without having been there first myself. We ended up making the trip anyway because my buddies wanted to watch the UFC fight that they were showing. The hostess was very helpful and seated us in the bar section. The pulled pork sandwich tasted better than the photo looked! My buddy got their tri-tip sandwich and would not shut up about how good it tasted. We also had their wings as an appetizer and were impressed. I wish they had more local craft beer selections but having Karl IPA on tap is cool in my book. Our female server was very helpful with their specialties and made sure our beers were full all night. When my office throws our next party I will make sure that we call Cali Comfort BBQ to cater! read more

REAL BBQ This is an old school low and slow BBQ restaurant where they actually take the time to cook the meats as they should be cooked. I had the tailgate platter with a couple of friends, wasn't sure it would be enough food for the three of us so we ordered the awesome Beef Brisket, the Tailgater was enough for four people. Huge mound of Tri Tip, Pulled Pork, 1/2 a Chicken, 1/2 a rack of Ribs and 4 sides Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw, awesome Beans and a great Potato Salad. The Brisket plate was just icing on the cake, I ended up taking a doggie bag home, 3 of us could not finish this 35.95 plate actually 2 huge oversized plates of food. I was told that soon this combo plate will include the Brisket and a 5th side order . Better bring 4 or 5 people next time. The servers do a great job, a great dining experience. Cali Comfort Bbq is an incredible BBQ joint that serves amazing pulled pork and an abundance of delicious sides. The pulled pork is cooked to perfection and is juicy, flavorful and melts in your mouth. Every time I visit Cali Comfort Bbq, I am always impressed by the quality of their food and the variety of sides they have to offer. Not only is the food delicious, but the parking is also easy and convenient. I never have to worry about finding a spot or walking a long distance to the restaurant.
