Saw some speedskaters in training, a hockey game going on and skating lessons for kids....if this gives you any idea of the size of this place. From what I understand, it has the fastest ice in the world, hence making it the ideal place to break records- not that I was going to try... After the skating lesson, there was public skating allowed and I got to skate on the ice of the speedskaters.... not being the greatest figure skater there is, I had to be assisted for a while until I felt comfortable enough to go on my own. I am proud to say - no falls :) I actually had a great time and was able to hold my own. No wonder this was the location for olympic events.... Wish there was a facility like this in Texas....but then again, that is Canada for you....home of hockey....

Ball Hockey for little munchkins in the early morning all the way to grown ups playing some sort of men's league hockey. Next to the hockey area, they have two full size basketball courts and soccer which they play league games or tournaments I'm guessing. As well as a couple work out areas where I've seen them throwing footballs in some sort of training programs. Overall, the facility is in very good condition even though the building looks old. Read on their site, you can book the facility for whatever you may need. I would recommend looking into this facility if you need to book sporting events or hold league games as it's a pretty nice facility.

We were there for a kids basketball game. 2 basketball courts, a ball hockey rink and a dry land training area. A little off the beaten path, but worth checking out! Do note the parking is a challenge in front. They have a small lot to park that is very busy. They also have an over flow lot so don't get discouraged looking for it.

The SE Soccer Centre used to have a bubble (giant inflatable space containing 4 indoor fields), but collapsed for the last time and will never be resurrected. This is all you get at Calgary West. All bubble, all the time. But I am really hoping since this soccer dome was built after the millennium, I am hoping they invested on better building materials for this bubble construction. All you need to know is it is quite cold when participating as a spectator. The fields are money though, they have change rooms for the teams to use before and after their match. There is a little coffee/snack bar, and the ladies who run it are really nice and will give you a ziploc bag full of ice if you request it, cause your significant other injured his hand during the warm up. AND No more entry fees!!!!!!! I used to rue the day and think of elaborate ways to sneak past the gatekeeper so I didn't have to pay $2 to WATCH someone play non-professional soccer. But now it's free to enter, (as it should be) and I can go on strolling in as if I own* the place. *does not own the Calgary West Soccer Centre

This soccer dome has a newer, cleaner feel to others I've been in. There is less seating for parents and there is no link from the change rooms to the field which seems strange. Kids carry their stuff from one building to another. It also has a "middle of nowhere" kind of feel to it. On a happier note the fields are well maintained and the lighting is brighter and better than in other domes around the city. There is also plenty of parking which is nice.

They've got plenty of ice at the bar just in case someone gets injured and of course to keep your drinks cold! Their bar is pretty good! they've got really good wings. I haven't tried their beers but I'm sure their just fine. Earlier this year they renovated all the rubber exercise floors with hardwood like Volleydome by the UofC. Indoor Volleyball is one of those all year round sports that you can count on here. In the summer things slow down I found but in the fall, winter and spring leagues it can get really busy and the competition definitely gets stiffer. Rallypointe is across the street from the Deerfoot Inn & Casino (the entrance side). Although its not that easy to get here by bus, if you wanna play, it's worth it. I'd already taken my son to several lakes and even the ocean. He loves water. She charges 600 for four weekly 10- min classes which is triple what is charged elsewhere Money was no object as we thought we were doing the right thing Came first session. It's was a tiny pool with murky water in a dingy room. Kids before us cried nonstop, before hitting the pool, while in the pool and after which was the FIRST red flag we missed. We had already taken our son to poop where kids enjoyed learning how to swim and the process. It was our son to enter the water. He wasn't crying as he had no idea what was about to happen neither did we. Holly Murray ( the psychopathic so- called instructor) took him from me and turned around so we could not see his face. That was the SECOND red flag we missed. 2 minutes in, our 7 month old started vomiting crying. She put the blame on us having fled him an hour before. We had no idea what happened as we could not see what she was doing with him. Come the second session, he was crying nonstop along with other kids before and after his class. Just imagine the distressing scene. My wife and I had had a chat with her and reassured that it's not a big deal and all kids cry and eventually he will learn swimming. ( with an attitude of course) We decided to give the whole thing two weeks( 8 sessions) to see if things change. The second week , Monday I managed to see what see does in the water. Imagine being helpless in the water swallowing water nonstop and going through the feeling of drawing for 10 min. Had I seen that scene I would have stopped the whole thing right away. He was suffering so much that she herself cut the 5th session short ( I have everything recorded and DOCUMENTED) That was the last straw. We went home sensing not being right. If read the article above, you realize that she , as she quotes she receives 100 calls from parents asking for a spot in her classes And yet she cannot find a replacement! Food for thoughts I felt responsible to write this review, as a parent and human being. Don't allow this psychopathic woman , Holly Murray, experiment on your child hoping that he/she might float for 5 seconds while being tortured and going through the dreadful feeling and experience of drawing and swallowing poop water. Is that how we learned how to swim? Do you really want your child to develop lifetime phobias and complexes? This neighborhood gem is a no nonsense, no frills, honest fitness facility. I come here 2-3 times a…read moreweek to do my best Michael Phelps impression. The staff are friendly and the constant presence of lifeguards make me feel safe. The pool is clean although I've seen the occasional bandaid at the bottom. There's a constant flow of swimmers who take advantage of the lane swim times. There's a dive tank and a hot tub too. The gym is small but has what you need for a productive workout. I like building up a sweat and cooling down in the pool after. The change rooms could be cleaner but that's understandable because it's so busy. Just don't look at the floor. The lockers require quarters but some lockers are free for you to use your own lock. The rates are SO CHEAP compared to Vivo and YMCA. I bought a 30x pass that never expires for $170. That comes to just under $6/entry compared to $14 drop in at the aforementioned facilities. Drop in rates and 10x passes are also City of Calgary's website along with their pool schedules. If you're not close to Thornhill, other City of Calgary facilities are dotted around the city that offer the same rates.

I've been here in the daytime and also the evening and the attendance is quite varied. Some days it is very busy and others it's very quiet. The facility is a little bit older and not as well maintained as the other city pools. The centre does have a good sized weight room. The big disappointment is the change room facilities. They have a dark dingy feel to them. Water pools around the built in tiles benches, making you want to avoid the puddles. Now they do make the effort to clean them at the end of the night, but they could wait until the patrons have left so that they don't have to walk barefoot over cleaning solution on the floor.

It's not packed but plenty of fan base... If not more then most WHL teams. It feels like going to a Flames game from the professional side of things like concessions, aisle attendees, entertainment, etc. But the cost and less crowds are a big bonus. No rushing or crowd control issues. If you can't afford a flames game, you will definitely enjoy going to a Hitmen game while saving money.

Games this season seem a bit more busy, perhaps due to people trying to get their fill of hockey in spite of the NHL lockout. The Calgary Flames own the Hitmen now though, so it really doesn't make a big difference. One of the original founders of the Hitmen was Bret "The Hitman" Hart, and that's where the inspiration for their name came from. As far as the venue goes, there could be improvements. The saddledome is showing her age and either needs some updating or replacement (as rumored). The food isn't the greatest, and the beer selection is subpar. But I can't dock the Hitmen stars for this, because they play in the best arena that is currently available in Calgary.
