Im going to leave here, the response I wrote back to the CWC after I was discriminated against. In response, they had no direct answer or solution.
Hello Kyle,
Even though I do appreciate you standing behind your team in there decision making, I would like to point out some misinformation your staff has forwarded on to you.
Firstly, I have never been treated this way when coming to the Winter club. I have worn this sweater before with no incident in a few of your "children and family friendly" areas. For example, I had been skating on the ice for over an hour earlier that day with no incident. With children and parents on the ice who I spoke with casually.
Secondly, when we arrived in the bowling area there was only two staff members and a few older members in the room. No children. It was only when the male staff member approached us during our game that there was any issue. He said someone at the front desk had complained and he wanted me to remove it. He said it was against your dress code. I had no issue with this.
However, when I went to leave I asked the same staff member for a copy of the dress code so I could avoid the incident next time. He did not have and could not find any record of it. How can you in force a dress code that doesn't exist, I asked. He said that was just the way it was. Fair enough.
So again I went to the front desk and asked if it was possible to receive the dress code. Once again, they didn't even know there was a dress code for members. Only for staff. I asked who complained and they told me it was actually your male staff member who had called the front desk and complained about me. Not your members.
Your staff lied to me and you. They discriminated against me with no actual code to back up their alligations.
On a separate note I would appreciate if you informed your staff of the proper scheduling for ice times. A few of your members and I called ahead of time to confirm your schedule so we would be able to play hockey on your ice. When we arrived we where denied to play. We where told that open hockey was at nine. So we left to play bowling (the above incident occurred) and on our way out we passed the ice only to find children playing hockey an hour before the scheduled time. Once again we asked your front desk about this and they had no explanation as to why they weren't kicked off the ice or why they where allowed in the first place.
Seems like your staff are unaware of your rulesand don't know when to reinforce them. I would work on better communication with your team. If this is how you handle an act of discrimination against a guest, a potential member, I am extremely disappointed.
and there lack of response:
Good afternoon Jenna,
Thank you very much for the email and detailed information about the other night. Again, I apologize for your experience within our facilities. Our goal is to make sure all of our members and guests enjoy their time while they are at the CWC. I appreciate that you have worn your sweater at the Club before and there was no incident. There are a lot of members within the Club that not too much would affect their experience. There are however, members that if they saw a sweater with an inappropriate slogan on it that would be very upset and complain right away.
I followed up with the bowling manager who had one of our elderly members stop by the next day to ask how the situation turned out the night before. While I know it may seem that it was our staff that complained, they typically wouldn't take action unless another member had complained. I hope you can appreciate the difficulty of keeping over 9000 members and guests happy.
To follow up in respect to the physical dress code, we have actually gone away from that over the past number of years as we try not to stifle anyone's ability to express themselves or to be creative. We try and cover the dress code under conduct in our rules and regulations;
R8 HOUSE RULES
8.1 Conduct
1. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that will not interfere with other Members' or their guests' use and enjoyment of the CWC (didnt do that..)
2. Members are expected to maintain a standard of conduct on CWC Premises that is a credit to the CWC and to otherwise treat other Members, their guests, and CWC employees with dignity and respect.
( Definitely did that..)
3. The proper etiquette of the game must be observed at all times and in all activity areas of the CWC. (how does this apply?)
4. Reckless and unsafe conduct, obnoxious or abusive language, rude or boisterous behavior, or harassment of any type, are specifically prohibited. ( No swears. Apparently, "get over it" is offensive..)
5. Members and guests may only use personal communication devices such as cell phones, laptop computers, tablets, etc., if they are not disruptive to the peaceful enjoyment of the CWC by other Members (what?)
STAY AWAY. read more
