3.5* An annual…read morefireworks competition here in Calgary that takes place at Elliston park. where different countries put on a fireworks show choreographed to music. On the grounds there are cultural tents, and food tents showcasing each country. I was happy to find Guarana at the Brazil food tent and my new discovery is a bag of dingdong from the Philippines tent! haha. Away from the food tents there are snack stands that sell mini donuts, corn dogs, lemonade, popcorn, ice cream, etc... $15 for admission at the door but there are also intervals for pre-sale tickets starting from $7.50 and the close to the date, the closer to $15 it gets (check their website)! Bring your lawn chairs, bug spray, and blanket and set up a place for yourself on the grass. They allow you to bring your own water, food, & snacks. On the grounds, water is $3 / bottle, and the food ranges in price from $4+, avg being $10 / plate. I usually go with my friend and her family. We walk around the grounds, eat some dinner/snacks, and just chill and wait for the fireworks show. Basically we spend a whole evening from 6pm until maybe 1030/11 ish. The show is usually around 30-40 mins long and begins when it gets dark (between 9-10pm). Yeah it's in the sketchier side of town but there are cops everywhere who stop traffic for pedestrians, and close the roads after the show for people to walk back to their cars. We usually park in the surrounding neighborhood and walk. It started off small potatoes and it keeps growing! :)

The festival itself is ver good and several events and activities for children but the shuttle bus…read moreservice is the worst I have ever used. Tonight August 15, 2019, we needed to wait around 90 minutes until one bus was able to take me to the Marks warehouse parking lot with my wife and two small kids, some other families and senior couples needed to wait even more. No organization at all and only one lady from the staff was trying to provide support without success. Again the festival is great, but do not even try to use the authorized festivals Parking lots. We rented the black hummer (recommended 22 passenger but we easily fit 25), it was gorgeous on the inside and out! Our driver was courteous (helping us all 25 of us in and out of the limo), was super laid back and went along when we changed our minds about photo locations. The owner was awesome and answered all my questions when I called about once a week for 2 months. Cascade also had the best price for a limo this size, very affordable and amazing service.

I booked a hummer limo for my son and his friends for grad and the limo pulled up with flashing lights, eye balls in the windscreen and "hummer daddy" across the rear window. The limo was looking quite rough. But initially I thought oh well they'll have fun still. Before my son and his friends were dropped off at BMO Center for their grad banquet, it broke down. The driver then told them to walk. At no point did the company call me to explain, offer an alternative or even tell me what happened. They just told the kids to get out and walk. The company hasn't even had the decency to yet provide me an explanation as to what happened and how they intend to make this situation right. Their claims of safety fail every box they claim to check. Unprofessional, unsafe and not worth your business.

With the demise of The Uptown, this is the last bastion for art house film lovers in the downtown…read morecore. Sure, the Cineplex in Eau Claire sometimes shows art house or indie flicks, but The Globe fills a niche in Calgary that I wish more theatres would cater to. The theatre is owned by Landmark, and they've outsourced some of their advertising to Cineplex, so you can actually check out a good chunk of the Cineplex Pre-Show here, which is ironic because the Cineplex location in Eau Claire doesn't even show that at their theatres. If you're on a budget, the best times to visit are during the weekends and catching a matinee (you save about $2.50 or so on admission that way), or visiting on a Tuesday as for $0.99 more than general admission ($10), you can get a popcorn/drink/candy combo. The Globe is on my list of theatres to check out every week whenever I'm in the mood for a film, because usually they've got quality stuff playing here. If you like films with a little bit more depth, give The Globe a try.

So, I went by myself to the first show and I thought it might be empty or few people may attend, but I chocked because it was crowded and I barely found a chair, also the director was there. It was a great experience that I had and sure it'll not be the last one. Pros: Independent theater Cheap tickets Great movies No ads Cons: Online booking is not available Seats are without number
