I would strongly encourage parents to carefully consider their options before enrolling with Tru Hoops, particularly if your child is placed on a team coached by Ryan.
Travel basketball requires a significant investment of both time and money from families. Parents pay substantial fees and often travel long distances so their children can develop their skills, gain game experience, and enjoy the sport. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect those expectations.
Despite making this commitment, my child was consistently given very limited playing time across multiple games. While I understand that playing time can vary based on circumstances, a coach's responsibility extends beyond simply managing games. Coaching involves teaching, providing constructive feedback, developing players, and helping them improve. It is difficult for young athletes to grow and gain confidence when they are rarely given opportunities to play in actual game situations.
I reached out to Ryan directly to discuss my concerns and seek feedback regarding my child's role and development, but I did not receive a response. The lack of communication was disappointing and left important questions unanswered.
As a parent, I invested in this program with the expectation that my child would receive coaching, guidance, and meaningful opportunities to develop as a player. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
I encourage other parents to thoroughly research programs, ask questions about coaching philosophy, player development, communication expectations, and playing time before committing to a team. read more
