The Adult Learn to Row course was the reason I was there, and really loved it. While a bit pricey, it offers an experience nearly unattainable in Calgary, and it's a great way to spend a few summer evenings. I suggest taking any opportunity you might have to get in one of the boats here. The instructors are knowledgeable and have an overwhelming passion for rowing.

I seem to spend a significant amount of my life at the Okotoks Recreation Center due to CAHL…read morecommitments. But that's ok, because this facility has a lot going for it - for just about anyone. I didn't really give the "for just about anyone" aspect much thought, until one Friday evening . . . Walking through the lobby towards the rinks, I noticed how many teens were cruising around the building, or just generally hanging out.... not going anywhere in particular, and not carrying any athletic gear. It was notable by their numbers. "Why," I wondered? Is Xbox Live down? Well, it turns out that this facility offers up "teen night" every Friday. For a couple of bucks they gain admission, and they can use the pool, gymnasium, the games area (or "Youth Center") downstairs, etc. Pretty cool, really. Giving teens something non-destructive to do. Otherwise, year round a lot is offered at the ORC: two hockey rinks, curling rinks, a gymnasium, a pool, a skateboard park, an outdoor water "spray park" for the kiddies, soccer and baseball fields... and a fitness club (Natural High Fitness). They even stage a rodeo in the big Murray arena in the summer. This place is a big positive in the community. It gives area residents ample opportunity to get off their butts and stay active.

This is a great amateur arena, with a pretty decent sized "bowl seating" configuration…read more The seating area is warm and comfortable, more like a mini Saddledome, than the typical community rink seating with people huddled under overhead heaters. It's home to the Junior "A" Oilers, and their home games make for fantastic high-level hockey, at a minimal price. It's an inexpensive, but entertaining evening out. Sight lines are good all over, and you are never far from the action. Though last year I saw a ref take a clapper to the teeth. When I could count his Chiclets on the ice, that was probably a little TOO close! Oh... and the jogging track that circles the upper level is open to anyone, except during paid events. So you can get out and walk or run, even in the dead of winter.

Ball Hockey for little munchkins in the early morning all the way to grown ups playing some sort of men's league hockey. Next to the hockey area, they have two full size basketball courts and soccer which they play league games or tournaments I'm guessing. As well as a couple work out areas where I've seen them throwing footballs in some sort of training programs. Overall, the facility is in very good condition even though the building looks old. Read on their site, you can book the facility for whatever you may need. I would recommend looking into this facility if you need to book sporting events or hold league games as it's a pretty nice facility.

We were there for a kids basketball game. 2 basketball courts, a ball hockey rink and a dry land training area. A little off the beaten path, but worth checking out! Do note the parking is a challenge in front. They have a small lot to park that is very busy. They also have an over flow lot so don't get discouraged looking for it.
