Provincial Court of Alberta - 200 citizens and only TWO staff to help them !!!!!

I attended a family court session yesterday and was shocked to say the least. The judge was so…read moreintimidating that the husband's lawyer looked terrified. Poor guy! I am not sure if it was because he was of East Indian heritage or because he was young, but the judge seemed to make fun of him and laugh with the other side while testifying, making it so obvious she was bias. No matter what the husband or his lawyer said or the proof they provided, the judge openly said to the husband "I don't believe you". I wasn't impressed at all.

In fact for the first two hours there was only ONE crown attorney - four available rooms for crown attorneys to hear negotiations and yet only ONE room being used - Ridiculous !!!!! Why do they consider this ok and an acceptable wait - I've been here 2 hours and only 15 people have been called - at this rate I'll still be here tomorrow !!! My tax payers money hard at work in Alberta Court System ! The worst moment was when we are waiting for our names to be called, a very impatient white man in a suit barged into talk to the crown attorney before anyone was called... Therefore he just budded in line. Only Caucasian man in the room...... 99% of the rest of us were non-Caucasians and females and yet no one complained- looking back we should have been less polite and freaked out ----Update .....In total I there for three hours and 45 minutes just to contest a speeding ticket. There has got to be a better way, they need to have more staff and the CAs need to be quicker. PS If you are looking for a restaurant locally; Whatever you do, NEVER go to the Calgary restaurant The Guild. The insane manager literally called the police and tried to put me "under citizens arrest" for accidentally knocking over a glass of wine- see my full review here https://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-guild-calgary

Currently it is used as the office of the mayor & alderman, it is the architectural focal point of the City Hall complex that consists of 2 later additions. It was built in 1911 with a 4 story extension in 1962. The Municipal Building was added in 1985 and is a massive wedge-shaped, mirrored-glass structure. Its located on the eastern edge of the Central Business District, across from Olympic Plaza & the Stephen Avenue pedestrian Mall, forming the civic focal point of the city. In 1984, Calgary City Hall was designated a national historic site because it is the only surviving regional example of the monumental civic halls erected in several Prairie cities before 1930; and its lofty clock tower, prominent round-arched entry and extensive decoration in the Romanesque Revival style made it an imposing visual symbol of community progress.

This building has been around for many many years. Every time I make my way to the downtown area I…read morehave to go in. The art work on the walls or around the building is very impressive. You can also sit in on council meeting if open to the public. There is security check and screening before entering. I have gotten licenses or permits over the years and people here are very friendly and professional. I would not recommend parking downtown it's hard to find and very expensive. Take the bus or C-train. Well worth seeing this building as you see the other sights downtown.

I am writing this review to warn others about the unacceptable service I received at BLS…read moreInternational Calgary during my child's passport renewal process. The Problem: BLS staff falsely told me that courier service ($60.70 extra) was mandatory for passport delivery, even though their own website clearly states it's optional. When I requested in-person pickup, they insisted it wasn't available and forced me to pay the additional courier fee, bringing my total from $72.70 to $133.40. Months of Runaround: After discovering this was against their own published policy, I filed a complaint in early June 2025. What followed was over a month of: Empty promises of "24-48 hour" responses Multiple escalations through their complaint system Repeated template responses with no actual resolution Being told the refund was "processed immediately" in June, only to wait another month Only External Intervention Worked: The only reason I eventually got my refund was because I had to: File a formal complaint with the Consulate General of India in Vancouver Escalate to Service Alberta Consumer Protection Get help from external bodies and other people who guided me through the process Without this outside help and pressure, BLS would have kept my money and ignored my legitimate complaint. Final Outcome: It took over 6 weeks and involvement from the Indian Consulate before BLS finally processed my refund in late July 2025. Even then, they made me pick up a physical cheque during limited hours (3-4:30 PM weekdays only) instead of refunding to my original payment method. Warning to Others: Don't trust BLS staff when they say optional services are "mandatory" Take screenshots of their website policies before your appointment Be prepared to involve the consulate if you have any disputes Keep detailed records of all communications BLS International has a captive market for Indian consular services, and they clearly exploit this position. Their staff either don't know their own policies or deliberately mislead customers to generate extra revenue. I would not recommend BLS International to anyone. If you must use their services, be extremely careful about what fees you're told are "mandatory" and be prepared to fight for what's right. Update: I only received resolution after escalating to the Consulate General and getting help from consumer protection services. Other applicants facing similar issues should not hesitate to seek external help immediately rather than wasting time with BLS's ineffective internal complaint system. This review captures your experience accurately and warns others while acknowledging that external help was crucial to getting your refund. You can adjust the tone or length as needed for different review platforms.

She was not only very polite but treated me with due respect, which is much needed today. My work was completed fast at BLS because Neha went through all the application details very diligently and with a good dose of patience. My day was made pleasant due to her energetic behaviour & charm. She is a good role model for others & I can only wish her further success in all her endeavours. May her tribe increase!

I had an appointment for 940 to get my daughters passport done. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment. There was someone coming down the huge line asking everyone questions. (Ie are you traveling within 25 days). At this point they should have clarified that I needed a ticket or a reservation or an itinerary of travel and that they WILL NOT accept anything else. No they instead told me I could make a written statement! I told them I m planning to go across the boarder by car to Montanna, Most likely a day trip, as my mom lives close to the boarder. If I decide to stay for longer hikinig/sight seeing I might get a hotel that day of. My plans were for the second week of June! I waited 4 hours cause I was not seen until 1:00PM just for the person to turn me away and tell me to CANCLE my plans and to mail in my passport instead. I already spent 4 hours, I ask kindly to use a wifi or one of their computer cause my phone was not working at the time so I could book a reservation so I could continue to get my babies passport. The person told me to go home and do it and come back, as if I had nothing else to do that day. I paid 20$ for parking because my 940 appointment time was not honored, no one clarified the strict restrictions (that they are ONLY accepting tickets, reservations or itinerary and that's it nothing else!), I spent 4 hours to just sit there and in the end have someone turn me away with no alternative options, and them to tell me to mail in my passport. Unfortunately I cancelled my travel plans and mail in the passport yesterday, with defeat. I was so disappointed. So, to save on disappointment for anyone else, please Find another place to go, unless someone at this place decides to take time to review this review and start implementing things differently.
