wao unreal totally better than any of the other libraries i have ever visited... the wooden architecture and just how clean it's laid out !! it was quiet in some areas but louder in others; lots of photoshoots happening in downtown too so so fun and sunny yeth

Architecture here was absolutely incredible. The design of the building was breathtaking. So many wonderful nooks for a communication and continued education. Very well staffed and very clean.

This library is so cool! Great architecture and it's set up really well. SO clean! I wish we had libraries like this where I live. It would've been nice if it had a gift shop where they sold some merchandise. If they took photos of the place and made bookmarks, bags, coffee mugs, etc. out of the photos, they could easily sell them. I went in hoping to find something cool to buy. Anyhow, great library and worth checking out!

The library has been named as top 100 places to visit in the world by the Times magazine. The library was completed and opened to the public in Nov 1, 2018. Coming back to Calgary, I got the chance to check this library out. I have visited it several times already. I have borrowed books here. I don't have a physical card. I use an app on my phone. All Calgarian have full access to audiobooks, books, magazines and etc. If you don't live in Calgary, they do not allow you to listen to the audio books. The Central library has 4 floors excluding the basement. They also have a theater halls where they sometimes hold events, talks or shows here. It is a magnificent architecture. Great for pictures taking. Also note that there are events happening here on weekends. Most of these events are free. My favorite thing about this library is that food and drinks are allowed into the library. It is not the quietest library. But they do have rooms and meeting rooms that you can use for free. There are many seats here. They also have a large number of computer available for use. Everything is super clean here. The books are in good condition. Free wifi is available.

This library is certainly impressive. Everything at Calgary's Central Library is well organized and maintained, there's a ton of staff walking around to make sure everything's in order, there's even a little café so you can enjoy a hot beverage while reading a novel and enjoying the sites. Would highly recommend a boat just to see it in person.

Calgary Central Library is a wonderful architectural engineering having incorporated the LRT to run through the low part of the building. Very modern with lots of space. In some areas of the building you will be able to hear and feel the rumble of the train going through. When entering the library you are greeted by security at the door. -level 0 has a restaurant, lost and found. -Level 1 has a Library Express , performance Hall the day I was there a musician was playing a harp. If you want you can take a Tour of the facility with a tour guild to answer any question you have on the library. -Level 1M children's Library, nursing room, toddler nook, jungle gym to release your child's energy. -Level 2 fiction and literature, lounges, Author in residence studio. -Level 3 studios , teen centre & labs, digital learning labs in other words computer to use with a Library card, services for new comers. -Level 4 finally the top floor, the view is spectacular! The best floor of them all! The History floor. The history of Calgary, books and books, walls and walls of history. Spent hours upon hours looking reading, just enjoying the experience of this new library. We will be returning do advise to take the bus or LRT parking can be difficult. I would recommend families with children to have this on their bucket list and take the time to come here for the experience you will not be disappointed. The location does have it's big city issues such as homeless, stay alert you'll be just fine.

This is an invaluable addition to Calgary, and a great example of what the future of public spaces should look like.

The membership to the Calgary-area libraries is only $12 a year and pretty much gives your free-reign on any of their locations in the city, plus they have free wi-fi or some desktops computers you can work from. You don't even have to drop your books/dvds off at the same spot you picked them up at. Blockbuster should take note! This location is called the Alexander Calhoun branch and it is relatively small. It is right on the bus route, but I don't think it sees a ton of traffic. There are some nice tables, but there aren't a ton, so if you get your space, hold on to it. The staff is really nice and very helpful. I think they were surprised that I wanted a membership, but I've now made it my mission to make the library cool again!

It never seems overly busy, though, and the people who work here are nice enough to not make faces when I make my quarterly trip into the library to pay fines. Since I usually reserve & pick up books, it works well for me overall. I'm about equidistant between this library and the one in Signal Hill but drive past this one on a much more frequent basis. A yearly membership is only $12 (if you're not constantly paying fines, like me) and the library has a pretty good online account management system & library catalogue, of course. Time will tell once the CPL Crowfoot renovations are complete, along with the new CPL Rocky Ridge location opening up in January 2018. PS. All CPL locations have wifi; however. most have issues as their routers are only designated to accommodate 12 people at a time, or so I was told. CPLs are very popular; hence, often CPL wifi networks are either hard to get onto or drop you after a certain amount of time. Hopefully, wifi will be upgraded accordingly very soon to better accommodate the popularity of CPLs. PPS. Most times the bathrooms are dirty/wet for heavy use, and lack of paper towels. The hand dryers are very hard to use for most, since you need to place your hands up into the dryer for it to work properly.

I was a student here from 1987 to 1996, and of course the beauty of the library then was that you could walk up to the shelves, pick up a book, and read it. For those interested in military history, particularly alumni, we have been cut off from access to hundreds - possibly thousands - of rare and out of print volumes, that have been shuttled off to The Military Museums, which are only accessible during bankers' hours. Those of us with jobs (or, I suppose, classes on campus during the week) cannot arrange time to view the shelves and browse these books. Worse - the digitial library concept, in which books are warehoused without anyone having physical access, seems to be a failure. I requested a rare and out of print book (Black Yesterdays, the history of Canada's Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the Second World War, a giant illustrated volume now fetching several hundred dollars a copy on the used book market) from the TFDL. The concept as it stands is that these kind of books are warehoused, then brought out of storage on request. I receieved a notice instead that the book was irretrievably lost. My research was stalled - halted, actually - because the library had simply "lost" an out of print book of enormous value. Books are worthless unless they are circulating. They should ALL be on shelves and available to be browsed, right there on the campus. Not shuttled off to satellite sites which are rarely open, or worse, warehoused. The digital library idea is a horrible one.
