Calecco Construction has unethical practices. Before hiring Calecco, I did my due diligence and visited a few of Calecco projects with Murad Muradyan. In hindsight, the fact that none of his projects had active workers should have been a red flag. Once my ADU construction project began, I quickly learned the reason.... A subcontractor on my project shared that he has not been paid by Murad for work completed on my project and that I was just one of many clients left in the same situation by Calecco for not paying his sub. Because of Murad's failure to pay his sub on my project, I was at risk of having the subcontractor place a mechanic's lien on my home, meaning I could have been forced to pay twice for the same work to get the mechanic lien removed. I will not be using Murad and Calecco Construction for any future projects, It's simply not worth the risk, the financial headaches and legal troubles. read more

We hired Calecco to convert an existing garage into an ADU and the experience left us feeling disappointed and disillusioned. We weren't naive enough to think that our project wouldn't encounter any obstacles, but we couldn't have imagined just how frustrating an experience it would be. The lack of communication, shoddy work and prolonged delays we encountered along the way left us feeling angry and frankly, foolish that we entrusted Calecco to do the job. Murad wasn't appropriately engaged with our project and days would go by without an update on the work or where the project stood. We felt abandoned and left in the dark, feeling like our project didn't matter. When there was work being done, it was all too often farmed out to incompetent individuals. Bathroom tiling, electrical installation and grading were all done incorrectly and had to be fixed. Brand new hardwood floors were badly scratched up, the garbage disposal wasn't hooked up properly and the bathroom fan was never installed. All indicative of inadequate supervision and oversight. Given our experience, we will no longer use Calecco and hope this review may help others who are contemplating having similar work done. read more

Given the complexity of our project having irregular small lot and irregular shaped structures with heavy use of steel, Calecco Construction managed to deliver outstanding results by building a ground up four car garage with an ADU on top, ground up 2 bd/2ba townhouse and expansion/remodel to an existing house. They did a really good job in completing the project as per our needs. They handled the inevitable surprises that came with a job of this size extremely well. We evaluated many proposals and finally chose Calecco Construction for our construction. They did a really good job in completing the project as per our needs. They always kept us informed and always available to answer our questions. Even though we faced some challenges during the construction process, Calecco team always gave us options and finally made it work. We passed all inspections without any issues which made us feel very calm and comfortable. Calecco has really good people working for them. The Carpenters, plumbers, electricians and tile installers were all excellent and completed the job on time without any issues. They are personable, professional and punctual, they never stopped working until they finished. We've shown the completed work to friends, and they've commented on how amazing everything looked. We are glad we went with them because they are professional and allowed us to voice our opinion every step of the way. For the project that was done for the time frame, we believe their quote was more than fair. Communications with Calecco and the team was excellent, mostly via phone when needed. They stand behind their work and went the extra mile to make sure we were happy with the results. Finding a good contractor can be extremely challenging, I was interested in remodeling my property in Glendale which consists of two houses on a lot. My husband and I met with 3 contractors before we contacted Calecco. Murad was very pleasant on the phone and we met at the property to discuss the project. We have worked with the Calecco Construction team for two projects and recommend them without reservation. From the initial experience of requesting a quote, Murad was prompt, professional and courteous. He patiently explains how renovations can be done and recommends approaches, without pressuring one into larger or more expensive projects. During the work itself, the Calecco crew arrived when scheduled, wore masks, and similarly conducted themselves in a courteous and professional manner. Murad was always available in person or by phone to discuss questions or concerns. He goes out of his way to help smooth over unexpected problems, including once driving me to a Home Depot to help select another oven when the original one delivered had a broken door, so that we could finish the kitchen on time. On another occasion he offered to replace the grout in our kitchen that was poorly done by a prior contractor. He noted while painting our house that two sets of air ducts were present, with a lower set non-functional, and offered to seal the ducts and replace the dry wall and matched baseboards so that the wall appeared new again. These small gestures of going the extra step, even when it was not written in a contract, demonstrated to us time and time again his dedication to doing the job correctly and his thoughtfulness. He completed the project within the estimated budget and on time, while not compromising on the quality of the work. We have now lived in the home for 6 months and continue to be impressed with the quality of workmanship. I was long over due on doing a addition/ remodeling project on my house. I decided last September 2014 to get the ball rolling. I was refereed to CALECCO by a neighbor of mine which had a kitchen remodel done by them and was very happy. I had Andre come out and I went over what my plans were and what I had envisioned (which was apparently not allowed by our city due to set backs and a few other regulations). Even though I was initially bummed out, Andre was quick to offer solutions that met the cities guidelines, which meant part of my addition would be 2 stories, to allow room for my master suite. I decided to hire the Architect he recommended (who I was also very pleased with). They prepared the plans worked out all the details with me and got approval from the city. The scope of our project was; adding a master suite, enlarging the family room, kitchen remodel, powder room remodel, new driveway and some other misc. work. Thats when Andre and his crew started our project. Off course since my house is a 60 year old house there was some unexpected surprises but Andre handled everything very well with minimal cost. I was pleased with every aspect of there work, from customer service to the quality of the work preformed. One thing I was really impressed by is the attention to details. Andre would spend so much time talking to me about little design elements, how to position the lights, where to put switches, all things which I thought were pointless at the time. But now I realize all those little things really do add up to make a great finished product. All around it was a pleasure working with Calecco, I have heard so many contractor horror stories and am super glad I made the decision to go with them. It has taken me a few months to write this review...it took me that long to come to terms with what happened and let my emotions go away. We hired Calecco Construction for both a remodel and an addition to our house in Pasadena. Overall we worked with them for 10 months, on a project that they told me would only take 4 months to complete. Some of the hold-ups were because of permits and I don't fault them for that, but the rest was extremely poor management - both time management and managing expectations. I have many stories I could tell you about working with Calecco, but the one that stands out the most and shows you the type of people these are happened the final days of the project. On a Friday night Murad and his team were in the house working on finishing touches. Around 6pm Murad said they were done for the day and we would see them the next day. They left the house with boxes around, no shelving, no fixtures in the bathroom, and it looked like they were coming back the next morning. We didn't see them again for 3 weeks, and that was after we finally threatened to sue them. We texted, called, e-mailed, did everything we could to communicate with them and didn't hear back for 3 weeks. When we finally sat down to discuss the lawsuit Murad tells us that every project has to end and that is how he chose to end ours. These are the type of people you are hiring if you hire Calecco. To your face they are nice and they will say whatever you want to hear. Their work is standard but the finishes need a lot of work. Basically, if you want to be impressed by your contractor, don't hire these people. If you are ok with standard work, a delayed timeline, and frustration, go for it. read more
