I have to agree with Jeffrey, the whole conflicting schedule and problems with his trunk thing sound so familiar. I first hired Jim to clean 3 drains, he was on time and got the job done. He is also relatively cheap ($50/drain) compared to other plumbers. He has a wrapped truck with the company logo on it, everything looked professional, I had a great first impression. A week later I called him to replace a shower faucet for me since I am remodeling the bathroom. 1st appointment He stopped by for 10 minutes and said he should have the tiles removed before he come back to do the job. He went to Home Depot with me and helped me got some backer boards. Charged me $50 which is reasonable. He also referred some guys to remove the tiles for me. 2nd appointment He bought the guys to remove the tiles for me. The guys got the job done, but they also left my tub scratched and chipped pretty badly. These guys charged me $100 3rd appointment Jim was a few hours late to the appointment. He said he had a flat tire. When he came, I pointed out the chips and he just said I can get touch up paint. He finished with the piping and installed the shower valve. He said he will come back to install the handle when I finish setting the tiles. I paid him for the job (he also charged me an additional $50 that "he's collecting for the other guys") and said he will come back two days later. 2 days later... (today) He said he will stop by at 5pm. It's now 10pm. I texted him and he said he is stuck at a job, and has 3 more hours to go. On the other note, I referred Jim to a friend given that he got the first job done. It's a sink replacement job. He missed several appointments, first he said he's waiting for the sink, then he said he is waiting for people to locate the sink, then he said the sink is in LA, etc. etc. etc. I have a feeling the job won't be done. To be fair, Jim did got the drain cleaning job done. But for the other two jobs, he can be more responsible and responsive. read more

Every time I call Jim Martinez dropswhat he's doing and is at my house in an hour usually. He's not like one of those plumbers that tries to gouge you on everything and charges fair prices. The thing I like most about him he speaks regular language and not some plumbing jargon that you can't understand. Terrible communication. Jim charged $350 to write up a report on a leak to our insurance company. He then had every excuse in the world for why no one would show for repairs. One of his trucks broke down. His guys all called in for the day off. He told me his guy was at Home Depot getting the part, but the truck broke down. When one of his guys finally came to do repairs, he didn't finish the job and told me to go to Home Depot to get the part. Jim initially tried to make his first no show right by not charging for some needed repairs (hence my previous 5 star review). I've requested a toilet installation and have been told someone would be out first thing in the morning since Thursday afternoon. It is now Monday and Jim didn't answer my call or respond to my text. When I first hired this guy he misdiagnosed the problem. He claimed I had crack slab and that the job was worth 10k. He told me I would have to file a claim with my insurance that all i had to pay was my deductible to him and the insurance would cover everything. So I agreed to have him do the work. He was here on a Monday with his crew. He said he would be able to start the work on Wednesday but he never showed. I had to call him to see if he was coming and he claims he was sick and that he would be here on Friday afternoon. I called him around 10:30 and he said he would be here at 1:00, around 1:30 he called me to say he was not showing up because he still felt sick and had pneumonia. Monday came and again another excuse not to show. note; I had already paid him half of the deductible by this time. On Tuesday he came late and was only her for about 10 min saying I needed a part and that he would be back the following day. At this point my husband was really ANGRY because he delayed the work for over a week. He apologized and promised he would get everything done by Friday, Come Friday he gets here late, he started to jack hammer our floor when he CLAIMS he discovered another leak. He said that the other leak was not covered by insurance and that i would have to pay him an additional 1,000 dollars. At that point I called my husband at work and told him that the plumber found another leak and that we had to pay him additional money. My husband asked me to tell the plumber to halt the job. After I hung up with my husband I told the guy we weren't going to pay an additional 1,000 dollars. So he continued working for a little longer and said the insurance will cover the extra 1,000. I wanted him to finish the job and leave. At this point I had already paid him my deductible. I left my house to pick up my kids from school by the time I got home my house was all dusty from all the concrete he had drilled. My floors were covered with concrete dust, my furniture were covered with dust. He left about a 4 feet long hole on my floor. I came home to a house covered in filth. He left us with that hole for 12 days. The reconstruction crew that was coming to put everything together was tired of waiting and filled in the hole for him. I then logged onTo Yelp I was really upset that I hadn't checked this guys reviews before hiring him. By the way he NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE and when I let him know, he said "oh well, not my problem anymore" And of course this was AFTER I paid him..Now I have to hire another plumber..Please do your research before hiring this guy. I did business with Jim Martinez in 2013. Then he did a decent job. Recently I have sewage leaking from my kitchen ceiling. Jim Martinez came by. He demanded $600 advance money. I told him why would I pay him advance when he has not rendered the service? I told him, "If I were to give you all the money, you would say 'My Aunt is not well. My Grandma is not well' and basically not show up to fix the problem. He told me that that wouldn't be the case. He came to my place and took care of few small issues. For the bigger job, he told me he would come the next day. I told him that the dry wall guy is waiting for him. One more day delay. When I asked him the reason, he told me that "he had ordered a part" and it was not available. I asked what the name of the part was. No reply. Two days went by. My Dry Wall guy is still waiting while my kitchen is a complete mess. Jim then tells me he would come the next day. When I asked him if he understood what the source of the leakage was, he did not know. Why would he order a part, when he didn't even know what the source of the leak was?!! Jim even had the nerve to suggest I close the dry wall when - guess what - my other plumber whom I hired found an "18 EIGHTEEN inch long crack in a 3 inch diameter main sewage line". Had I listened to Mr. Martinez ("I have 30 years experience! Believe me"), I would had an even more messier situation down the line. I am pissed that he held me to ransom by (a) Demanding 300$ deposit even before he started the work (b) The BS excuse he gave me for not showing up to fix the bigger problem (c) Ordering a part when he hasn't even diagnosed the problem completely by saying "Oh! I have 30 years' experience doing this". I will NEVER do business with Jim "Jimbo" Martinez ever again - which plumber would have the sense to say "Close the drywall - there are no leaks" when there was an 18inch wide crack in a cast iron pipe and was half-cm thick crack. To snake two bathrooms he charged me $300 - what a ripoff! He then had to plug a copper pipe leak. He bought a plug called "shark bite" and simple stuck it in - that was $100. If I could give Jim Martinez 0 stars I would. ***please use anybody BUT him**** I had a slab leak and called cal leak detection. He removed the bathtub and jack hammered down to the pipes. It took him several weeks to fix it. He would come and look at the hole in the floor and tell me he needed another pipe then leave and not come back. Then he needed to jack hammer some more so he took the shower out. After a couple more weeks the leak was "fixed" so we paid him. We had the shower and tub put back in. Now the shower won't drain and the toilet is plugged. When we called him to fix the same problem because it obviously is not fixed. He said that it is a new problem and it's on us. I had a faucet and angle stops installed on my home. Jim came out in the window of time that he promised. I don't know why the others rated so low, since his prices can't be beat. I got a quote from another plumbing company for the same work and was quoted $400. Jim did the work for $150 and was done in less than an hour. We recently had a leak in our kitchen. We used Jim and his guys to help with the detection of the leak and repair. His guys are never on time ...days late...show up whenever they want with no phone call. On top of it they decide to just let themselves in my house through my slider door on the side of my house when I didn't answer my door fast enough. Jim replaced my water heater a couple of days ago. He was very professional, timely and did the job for half the price that other plumbers were going to charge me. He even used his account with the plumbing supply store to give me a contractor price on the unit. No issues with water heater so far. I have a couple of rental properties and Jim has been helping me for the past year with. He always answers my phone call or text in a timely manner and gets me the advise or service that I need in a timely manner. I met Jim today at Ferguson's Plumbing & Supply. I was looking for a solution to a broken water main from the meter to my house. The ferguson staff said the black pipe used 40 years ago is obsolete and they don't carry it or any repair parts for it. Jim said he had a solution and said that if I follow him to Home Depot he would show me the part. Which he did. I installed it and the repair so far is working. What I was impressed with, was that he offered to go to Home Depot and show me the part at no charge and he was not going there for any other reason. He was supposed to come on Tuesday morning to explain to the insurance adjuster what the problem was. He called me on Tuesday morning saying he was at another job and he was unable to make it. When the insurance adjuster came he estimated the job to be a 2,700 dollar job. He told me that the insurance wasn't going to cover the tiles they had pulled out or the jack hammer access. He also told me that I had to pay my deductible to whomever was going to repair my floor. I explained to my adjuster that the plumber made me believe I paid HIM the deductible and that everything would be covered by insurance. The Insurance only paid around 1,700 dollars and told me I was on my own. I then logged on to see the reviews and I found Jeffrey's review. I was really upset that I hadn't checked this guys reviews before hiring him. anyway, We took the insurance check and covered the rest ourselves. By the way he never snaked our sinks or installed the PSI regulator, My husband and I talked to him on the phone about his work. He said he was going to come back to install the PSI regulator, he also said he was going to pay a cleaning lady to clean up the mess he made. We also confronted him about the bad review he had and he denied it. He said " first of all I don't do pools and second of all they described the plumber as a 6 foot white male. I don't see that comment on jeffrey's review. He also threw all of the concrete in my trash bin. Please do your research before hiring this guy. He is a liar. read more

Hired Jim with Cal. Leak Detection & Plumbing to detect a leak in our swimming pool. Big mistake. Should have checked to see if he was a member of the BBB or had a contractor's license. Lesson learned. He said the leak was near the skimmer and wanted well over a thousand dollars. I paid him for the leak detection and got bids to do the work, since I have tumbled marble tile and concrete over that skimmer. The contractor who got that job removed the marble and concrete around the skimmer and found no leak. I made over 20 calls to Cal. Leak Detection because he said he would come out and trace the leak when the contractors started the job. He missed several appointments and would not return calls, so we started without him. At first he said he had scheduling conflicts, then he claimed something was wrong with his truck. Despite call after call, I never saw this guy again and it turned out the leak was at the other end of the pool, near our jacuzzi. I have a good idea what kind of plumber this guy is and I have only myself to blame because I didn't check him out before hiring him. Watch out for this plumber. OMG. I had same problem over Christmas and New Year. We had a leak in our garage. My husband found his name on internet. He go by Jim Martinez. We did not get his lisence #. Jim then call 2 other companies Flood Buster and Mission Restoration and make a big mess and bigger problem. He took 2 checks from us 12/26 and 1/2 for total of 1450$ for leak detection and dig holes in our house and with excused "buy supplies". After the Adjuster came on 1/3 and after many phone calls from us, all his excuses were "I had pneumonia; I need Dr for shot; I'm in emergency room". And after many "tomorrow" promises since 12/26, he never showed up and abandoned the job. 1/7/14 we call different plumber and in one day the job done. He told us he will reimbursed our money. Today 2/4/2014 we never heard from him. Pls report him to Cal. Board and Lisence so that they have record and go after him. If I could give this guy zero stars, I would. Absolutely horrible, awful service. I called on a Wednesday to get a toilet fixed that had been running. Jim said he could come out the same day, which I thought that was pretty awesome. He came over and took a look and said that the flapper was the problem. He sold us a new one for $5, which seemed like a decent deal. He installed it, charged us $55 for the part and the labor (which was less than 10 minutes) and immediately left, without even waiting a few minutes to see if the problem was taken care of. Sure enough, a few minutes later, the toilet was running again. I called him back to tell him and then he says, "Oh yeah, I was just looking your toilet up and it seems you need a special part for that particular type of toilet." He then said he would order the part and come fix it the next day. So the next day he calls and says the part wouldn't be in, so he would be coming the NEXT day. He let me know he'd be arriving between 9am and 12pm, but would give me an hour's notice before arriving. So I waited...and waited...and waited. 11:45am came around and I called him to see if he was going to be coming. He said that he was just finishing up a job and would be right over. Then he calls back and says that he must have called and left a message for someone else but that the part would be in at 3pm, so he would pick it up and be over after that. What a run around this guy puts you through! I had wasted my entire morning waiting for him and now I had to wait for him all afternoon too! I waited until 6PM for this guy to come! He made no contact at all. Not so much as a call or text! Soooo, the next day, Saturday, I made one last ditch effort to contact this guy and ask if he would becoming THAT day. No response and haven't heard a word from him since. So thanks for the $55 flapper that doesn't work and the toilet that still runs! I know this review is a bit long-winded, but I wanted to make it as detailed as possible so it's known what an awful business this guy runs and hopefully no one else gets suckered into giving this guy money for work that's not going to get done. read more

Do not deal bussiness with Jim the so called plumber he came to my gmas house back in Nov found a leak recomemded her to put in a sub pump for her hm including a toliet. Well new toliet & shower were put in by another business he simply just had to place new piping so that all can work 2gether with thiis new pump he instaled well it doesnt wk the toliet & shower has been out of comission for 2months because we can never get him to come finish what he started its a complete mess. thier is 8 people 2 one property using only 1 bathrm because he cant finish the job after he was already paid. We also have called him so many times all he keeps saying is " I will be over there 2morow "well 2morow comes he never shows or they stoled my truck or I simply dont have helpers with me 2day or I still have 2 order some parts they wont be in till next wk and many more countless attempts beacause 2mo later nothing has been finished I am very disappointed my gma who is only 78 yrs old decided to hire him & got taken advantaged of for her money she found him in the penny saver did not check him out before hand and now she is stuck with this mess. read more
