I ordered a carrot cake with real cream cheese icing for one of our employee's retirement and it was the most spectacular cake I've ever seen. Not to mention, almost everyone at the event said it was the best carrot cake they've ever tasted. The service was friendly and professional. I called ahead, scanned them a copy of business card and asked if they could create something original. The pics don't lie - it was a work of art and I came off looking like a star! I can't keep my kids out of Cakestar, this wonderful shop is fortunately/unfortunately located right by the school and we often walk past it :) Cakestar does a lot of custom orders, their cakes can only be described as fine art, it's ridiculously beautiful and creative. They also make cookies and other baked goodies, everything is made with much skill. I'm sure everyone have tried a cake pop at least once in their life but when you try one at Cakestar, all the previous cake pops you have ever eaten would never compare to cake pops from Cakestar. One more thing before I end this review, the customer service here is exemplary, you will feel well taken care of. read more

Ordered my daughter's 2nd birthday Minnie Mouse themed cake. Strawberry shortcake with buttercream icing. Cake- slightly dry but flavourful. Strawberries were not fresh. Icing was okay, nothing special. Cake was very pricey ($120) for simple cake with Minnie Mouse face for 12-15 people. A tremendous bakery that makes cakes both appealing to the eye and palette. I ordered two cakes and both were right on the money with what I requested and were the hit of the party they were for. The mermaid cake for our daughters 4th birthday was so beautiful and delicious! This masterpiece was the hit of the party........these amazing ladies took our order a bit shy of their 2 week required notice so I was worried we might receive a "rush job" but I was so pleased to receive such a pretty and professional cake!!! I ordered a specialty custom design champagne theme cake for a bridal shower from cakestar. I sent inspiration photos and a brief description of what I was looking for and what I received far exceeded my expectations and any photos sent. In my experience a great custom cake usually does not deliver in taste and I find you have to sacrifice one for the other, but with cakestar I felt they delivered in both look and taste! Monja invited us to come in for a cake tasting prior to booking the 2-tiered cake. Selecting the flavours felt impossible as they were all so delicious and Monja made whipped up fresh filling on the spot for us to try which was mouth watering! We selected carrot cake with cream cheese for one tier and vanilla with strawberry and dulce de leche for the second. The cakes were moist and mouth watering. As if the design wasn't impressive enough, the guests could not get over how delicious the cakes tasted. I thought the price with delivery was fair for the quality of cake and custom design and better than other high end custom cake places. I would absolutely hire cakestar again for my custom cake needs! read more

Amazing shop. They make amazing sweet wonders. We had cupcakes and cake pops and they are some of the best that I have ever tasted. And I consider myself a cake snob. Only like cupcakes with real buttercream icing and cake that is moist and Cake Star makes the perfect combo. They also make custom cakes for special celebrations which I have yet to order. There are samples in their shop that are so beautifully created. You can really see the artistry and care that goes into the cakes. read more

I have had Cakestar before while walking home one day along Lakeshore and stopping in for one of their cupcakes in their storefront. It was delicious and my 20 month old daughter was also a fan (she had the birthday cupcake). Just this past weekend however I ordered their sweet tray for a birthday party and we were even more impressed. First, my husband forgot to pick up the tray before closing on Friday but I was lucky that they picked up my voicemail that evening and stayed open a bit longer so that I could run over and grab the tray. Second, the macarons were TO DIE FOR. Blue Macarons with a strawberry flavoured centre. I really didnt think I would like it (not a big strawberry cream fan) but Ive been converted. They were definitely the biggest hit out of all the sweets on the tray. The cake pops were great and the kids loved the cupcakes. I am a huge canoli fan but unfortunately we had to pick the tray up the night before the party and even being in the fridge all night I feel like they lost their crispiness. Certainly not the fault of the store and even with it not being as crispy, the flavour was still amazing. Finally, my mother in law is gluten free and we ordered a separate gluten free chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing. She is a bit hard to please but she agreed it was one of the best cupcakes she has ever had :). I would order from here again and I will definitely be back for more Macarons. MOUTH WATERING! read more
