My Mom purchased a cake from cake. for my wedding shower on Saturday. It was truly a beautiful cake and everyone that attended said how pretty and tasty it was. The top of the cake was of a silouette of a bride and groom and a beloved golden retriever! (our Lilly!) We are getting married in November and the cake for our wedding is included in the wedding package by Konditor Meister. When we went to the tasting at Kionditor, my Fiance and I were not crazy about any of the samples we tried - totally wish that cake. could have done our wedding cake! We will defintely use this shop for special occasions in the years to come! Thank you very much! So happy and impressed! read more

I had ordered a birthday cake for my daughter in December. The decoration on the cake was BEAUTIFUL and that was the only good thing about the cake. - Everybody at the party was in awe of the cake that is until we tasted it. The cake was so dry, I could have got a better tasting cake in Market Basket. I had picked the cake on a Saturday afternoon for a Sunday noon party(since they are closed Sunday) and they suggested that I leave the cake in the car since it is cold outside. - When I ordered the cake, i asked them to make it exactly like a cake on their website. The cake on the website was a rectangle and when I picked up my cake it was a round. When I asked about it, they said the default is round unless we ask for a different shape. And no one mentions that when they are taking the order. They did deduct $10 for this but my daughter was a little disappointed - The flavors of the cake are limited - yellow, chocolate, red velvet and a couple more. There was no strawberry or orange. I didn't ask about these flavors, maybe they cane make these on request! Overall, I am really disappointed with the cake. Not going back there again. read more

Went to this bakery today after reading reviews for a cake for my fathers 50th birthday, he recently passed away so today was already hard. Got an already made cake for $35. Very disappointed. The cake tasted like it sat for over a week, so hard inside and dry. Only ate maybe half a piece before throwing the entire thing way. The frosting was hard as a rock and couldn't be eaten. I didn't want to go to a grocery to get a cake but looks like I am going to half too. Going to order a cake and try that next time because people say it's better. Will update after I get another cake, but for now, stay away from already made cakes. read more

Cake baked a beautiful and yummy graduation cake for my son's grad party, custom made with his school's colors and a graduation theme. Everyone really enjoyed it. I have also had the cupcakes several times and they also delicious! read more

This is a review of the cupcakes at Cake. Went this weekend and purchased 4 different regular sized cupcakes and 4 of thei mini cupcakes. The best thing I can say is that the price was reasonable for both, although the regular cupcakes are rather small. Also, the flavor of the frostings was quite good although the frosting was very hard and applied in such abundance that the cake was dwarfed. The virtue of this, though, was that the cupcakes were TERRIBLE - dense ( and not intentionally) and very dry. They had no lightness and were nearly inedible. While they were advertised to have filling in them, there was such a paucity of filling that you had to search to find it. I appreciate that cupcakes are now "the new thing", but - if you're going to make them - make them well. "Cakes" did not. read more

So I needed a small birthday cake and I wanted something special.... I knew that CAKE made awesome cupcakes and my fingers were crossed that they might have a few cakes ready to go. When I got there they had a few wonderful choices - but I really wanted the raspberry filling with Chocolate frosting. I was prepared to walk out with a few of the cupcakes instead, when Michelle asked what were you looking for? I told her and she said can you give me until 4:30pm today? I will have it ready. Unbelievable. What was more unbelievable was the cake. My husband is not a cake person and my 5 year old can be picky about the frosting, but they both ate it up and looked for seconds. I have my new place for all cakes. read more

Best cupcakes I have had, and they are reasonably priced. Added bonus is that the shop is charming and just a skip and a jump from the Minuteman Bike Path. read more

I purchased cupcakes and cakes from here for both work and private functions. The cupcakes (work related purchase) were always great. The cake (wife's birthday) was a major disappointment. The cake was dry and the icing was horrible... bad enough that my wife and 4yr old daughter wouldn't eat it! We called just to let them know of our disappointment, especially since I had such great luck buying cupcakes. They said that they were having problems with the frosting but thought they had it under control. They offered to replace the cake but didn't seem very genuine in the offer (ie: they only offered after I mentioned that I bought many cupcakes for work on several occasions). I never went back it to substitute, so there's a chance that they're normally better. Nonetheless, I was a bit putt off by the luke warm response and wouldn't recommend using them. Summary: worth stopping in for a cupcake or two if your in the area. Definitely don't buy the cake. read more

I strolled in during a walk and enjoyed the red velvet cupcake.

Susan at CAKE. does it again! I gave her a picture of a cake that I wanted for my son's engagement party and she made it better than I could have imagined. Her cakes are as delicious as they are beautiful and she is so easy to work with and so talented. You can not go wrong having her make a special occasion cake for you. Love, love, love this place! read more

After having read a lot of reviews, the good and the bad, I just felt the need to express how much it bothers me, that the 'owners' ONLY commented back on the good reviews, and NOT on any of the negatives... I see this as a MAJOR flaw!!! Rather than try to correct a negative experience, you have chosen to simply ignore it... Bad business... read more

Thank you, Cake. ! Yes, we are so happy to report that we have once again had a wonderful experience with a Cake. creation. Our family raved about the dessert that was crafted by Cake. ~ it was a confection that was not only delicious, but was also a decorative addition on the table and very reflective of the event being celebrated ~ not a holiday cake, but rather, it was my b-day cake (shared over the holiday week) and the flavor and design were perfect as a "tribute" to the flavors and fine culinary artistry that I enjoy and appreciate. Thank you again, Cake. and best wishes in 2015! read more

I must admit, i was charmed by the wonderful reviews and went in last week to get cup cakes for my kids. The selection was incredible and wonderful customer service. I bought an assortment of decadent looking mini cup cakes and wanted to grab one even while i was bringing them home. Unfortunately, my experience with the cup cakes was horrifying...not only were the cakes super dry and tasted like they had been on the shelf for a few days but the main reason for my review is that my three year old daughter threw up within minutes of eating and was sick all evening. My son complained of stomach pain all evening...and the adults were not happy either. I am really sorry but i had super high expectations and i was so sad to trash the remaining peices... read more

Not gonna lie, this place has radical red velvet cupcakes. I tell everyone to go here.

OK - I went back to cake and instead of cupcakes, ordered a birthday cake for my son. I spoke to Michelle, expressed my disappointment over the cupcakes and she was apologetic. I asked her to bake a musical designed chocolate cale, with fresh strawberries and the cake needs to moist. Ok - the cake was perfect - aethetically and taste wise. 5 stars for the cake. :) read more

had a cake for my son's Birthday and buy cupcakes on various occasions. They have great products, if they were a tad less sweet (i.e. LESS SUGAR) they would be 5 out of 5. otherwise 4 for now. will keep trying! read more

Our new birthday cake place!! My familyis all about the sweets and they gotta be really good. my sister wanted a boston cream pie for her 50th. I called all around with no luck. Stumbled onto Cake. mass ave in arlington. They call their boston cream the Black Tie Affair. It was around 1:00pm and i needed it for monday. They are not open on sunday or monday, but they said they can actually make it for me now for pickup at 6pm! I was told it would still be fine for monday. And they were right. I told them about how many people were coming and steered toward the right size. I was concerned when i saw it, lknowing my family, but their cakes are tall. and we had leftovers! it was delicious! i said you dont have to go crazy decorating it, maybe a few flowers. we were impressed with the look and the taste. One family member said this is their type of cake, not too sweet, just right. Only problem is i wish i took another piece home with me. Im having withdrawals! read more

Cupcakes were bit dry and seemed like they were sitting in the fridge for a few days. Really wanted a nice fresh cupcake but was very disappointed when I tried these. :( Was there about 6 months ago and had the same experience, figured I'd give them another shot but nothing changed. read more

My new husband and I chose CAKE to make our cake for our wedding recently and we were not disappointed! We chose to have the minuteman for the bottom tier (Fresh cut Strawberries and homemade whipped cream) and Raspberry and cream for the second tier... The owner drew us a sketch and it came out perfectly... The cake tasted amazing and the pictures speak for themselves. read more

In the past I had purchased several assorted mini cupcakes for my daughters soccer team and they were very good. Yesterday, I purchased a 6" midnight delight cake for my daughters birthday, very disappointing! The decorating was excellent and the cake looked wonderful. While the frosting was very good the cake was hard, dry, and seemed old. Bummer when the cake ruins a birthday! Wont be going back. read more

Amazing cake and wonderful cupcakes! This place is a jem and I have enjoyed everything from here. The frosting is real butter cream and is excellent. The cake we ordered was delicious and beautiful. Sometimes the cupcakes are a bit dry but that works out fine if you eat them with the frosting. This bakery doesn't use peanuts or treenuts which is great for your friends with food allergies. read more

CAKE created a work of art for my wife's 60th birthday. I sent them pictures of a few cakes with various features I liked. I was looking for an elegant chocolate lovers cake with a nod to scrabble. They whipped it all together and created a masterpiece..Folks thought it was the most beautiful cake they have seen.  This included the staff at the restaurant where it was served!  The guests thought it was the most delicious cake they have ever had!  It truly capped off a memorable occasion. I highly recommend these creative geniuses. read more

decided to stop in because I was in lexington and heard so much about this place. I was looking forward to it because I love cupcakes. Cute place though much smaller than I expected. The woman who was baking was working hard and said hello as soon as we walked in. The man in the room with the cupcakes was pretty sweaty so he had been working (although when you are going to buy food the last think I want to do is have a sweaty guy wait on me). Anyway, he said hello after we spoke first. I was disappointed there were no samples as I was oohing an ahhhing over which cupcakes to get. I asked about one of them and he just responded "ya it's good". Not much personality for the old cupcake man. The woman however was bringing out a fresh tray of the strawberry shortcake cupcakes. She was very pleasant. I bought 2 of those, 2 lemon and 2 chocolate (and two mini coconut) I tried the strawberry it was good, the coconut was extremely dry, and the chocolate was just okay. I wouldn't make a special trip but I would try them again. The few cakes they had in the fridge were very pretty though. I still think Party Favors has the best cupcakes. I did eat them at room temperature. One more thing the cupcakes are $2.50 not $2.00 I was suprised at that. read more

I bought 2 dozen assorted small cupcakes for our office. They tasted good and were certainly pretty, but many were overcooked and dry. I won't be going back read more

The store is beautiful, smells great and the designs incredible but the cakes, well I have had much better as they are so dry. I ordered cupcakes for my daughter's party and they were bone dry. I called to mention so they can make my next cake order better. I picked it up and I was impressed with the design. I mean really impressed. So I was hoping the red velvet with cream cheese frosting would be nice and moist. Let me say it was so dry and so dense that most of it went to the trash. I can say Ive been there but will not go back.I feel bad as the owner is a very nice person and the designs are great but I will stick with my bakeries in Braintree even though they are miles away! read more

If I had rated Cakes 2 cakes ago I would have given it a 4 or a 5. Now it's a 1. I was planning on ordering my THIRD cake from them in 2 months. All I asked was for a 6" cake, which on their website says $30. Apparently they've raise the prices to $35 now...fine okay... but then I asked for it to say "Thank You" and instead of regular flowers that they put on, to instead just put one lotus flower. The woman on the phone quoted me $55. Are you kidding me? $20 for one flower? I wasn't asking for a sugar flower or even one out of molded chocolate. I didn't want any elaborate decorations. I simply wanted a piped lotus flower with frosting. I'm extremely disappointed and as a repeated customer I can't believe how unaccommodating they were. I unfortunately will not be returning. read more

I called to order a cake for a funeral service and was told I couldn't place an order until the 25th. You can't plan a funeral! I have ordered many times before and thought this is the perfect place to get a cake that feeds 60 people. I thought wrong. BAD BUSINESS! Thanks for turning a sad and painful time into a stressful time as well. I will tell everyone I know about this expirence! read more

I can't comment on the cakes since I haven't tried one, but I did experience their cupcakes this past weekend. I give them two stars due to the buttercream icing and looks, but unfortunately the cake was rather dry and floury ... and thus it was somewhat of a belly bomber.. given the lack of choices for bakeries in the area this place does ok, but would be in trouble if there was competition read more

They made a Mardi Gras cake for my husband's 50th birthday party that was gorgeous and delicious. The decoration was stunning, and the gold fondant mask was perfectly shaped and had a beautiful pattern inlaid on it, and was also tasty! The cake was dense, as in solidly chocolate, but not heavy, and the raspberry cream between layers was just perfect. Great custom work! read more

I have to say, I really want to like this place as a longtime Lexington resident and businessman. And I hate writing a bad review. But i want others to avoid making the same mistake, or hope the biz improves. The service is great and the cupcakes LOOK great. But. They are not. They are not even mediocre. They are dried and crumbly. This is not the first time. This is the second of the two times I've tried the place. They are over frosted, apparently to compensate for the poor cake underneath. Stick with the old school Italian Royal Pastry on Marrett Road. read more

I've given this place a 1st chance and a 2nd chance. Both times I've purchased cupcakes here they were dry and did not taste good. The 2nd time was the worst; the cupcakes were so dry that my family wouldn't even eat them and we ended up throwing almost one dozen cupcakes in the trash. Too bad, because the place on the outside in very charming and in a good location. I'm glad both my "experiments" were only on family and friends. It would been horrible to bring something like this to work or an important function. read more

Michelle is an amazing cake decorator!! She was so generous with time and resources when she donated a cake decorating party to a local school, and let me tell you! What we took away was that cake decorating at the level that she is doing it is VERY highly skilled and challenging. We all realized how much it really takes to make the cakes that she does. We should be grateful for for what they offer. Thank you!! read more

I admit I am a cupcake novice so I'm easily swayed. My wife and I decided to offer a choice of cupcakes or key lime pie for our wedding dessert so we started trying the different offerings around us. We looked on Yelp to give us a direction and after trying some of the more "popular" places we stepped into CAKE. and knew this was the place for us. I agree that the frosting was a bit thick for our tastes, no biggie. We placed our order for cupcakes, the minuteman, red velvet & vanilla with chocolate and we asked if they could tone down the frostiing, no problem, and they even added a small flower on top at no extra charge. Finally they "loaned" us a cupcake tree with a security deposit and for an additional small fee they delivered the cupcakes at the designated location and right on time. The last thing we had to worry about on our "do it yourself" wedding day was the cupcakes so it was worth every penny, and damn it the cupcakes are pretty frickin good too! read more

Sweet Jezzebel, Cake knows what they're doing! I've been ordering from cake for 2 years for events at my company, from going away parties to seasonal celebrations. Michelle, the owner of Cake is friendly, patient and extremely easy to work out an order with! She as well as her staff is unbelievable with their cupcake designs. I've had them do a painting of the zakim bridge, the san fransisco bridge on cakes, and then travel themed embellisments on cupcakes. 60 passports designs hand frosted on cupcakes! Oh and the flavors are delicious!! I've tried them all, red velvet is my favorite. Moist, sweet, unique combinations. Also more affordable than companies in the city-and they deliver! read more

The cakes and cupcakes are pretty, I'll give them that. Too bad the cake is dry, dry, dry and the buttercream is sickeningly sweet. I'd rather go to Stop and Shop. I shopped here once, and have been at events where cake from Cake was served. Mediocre at best. read more

I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child, and CRAVING cake. Especially with thick, sorta stale fondant. My sweet brother heard me say this, and started calling local bakeries asking for this sort of weird request. Other places were rude/laughed at him! Whoever answered the phone at Cake told him "Well, what baby wants, baby gets." He picked up a slightly stale but still deliciously wonderful cake with icing that said "Mama's cake, from Eliot (my son)." I'd go back just for the cake, but the customer service will make the drive through multiple towns worth it. Thanks, Cake! read more

I happened upon Cake when going to farmers market in September, 09. I tried the cupcake with fresh strawberries as well as the red velvet cupcake. Both were outstanding. I think the strawberry one was slightly better, but both were amazing. I like cake, and this place beats all the competition. read more

I've been buying all our birthday and celebratory cakes from them since they opened. As I write, I'm finishing off the red velvet cake from the other night. As some pointed out, a bit heavy on the frosting, but still a delish cream-cheese frosting. None of that super-market crisco (or highly processed) white-trash frosting. And when I took a bite of the dark red cake, I def detected the requisite hint of cocoa. Strangely, the red velvet mini-cupcakes sometimes seem fire engine or neon red. Each month Michelle offers a flavor of the month. I loved the coconut cupcakes. The cake was light with a hint of coconut flavor. The buttercream frosting had coconut flakes on top. Looked like a cloud - beautful. I've had several other flavors of cakes - all moist, dense and delish. I think the cupcakes can sometimes seem dry b/c they are smaller and will more quickly lose moisture. The owners don't allow old cupcakes to linger, but by the end of a day or the next day, the small cupcakes will be dry. read more

after reading all the reviews on yelp i went to this place but it was a total disaster. front desk guy told us that they were having just two cakes which are fresh so i bought raspberry vanilla cake for 10 people. i was so disappointed. that cake was too sweet hard and stale. i spend $ 30 for that shit.. Disgusting ! i will tell this experience to all my friends and family... they ruined my day... read more

Last Saturday I bought 3 dozen assorted mini cupcakes and one regular size for my good friends 40th birthday party. Not only was I disappointed but I was embarrassed to serve them. While they looked beautiful they tasted horrible. They were so dry we could have been eating dust. I thought maybe just one flavor got overcooked but it was all of them. They give you directions on the box on when to take them out of the fridge before serving which I followed. I will give Cake a rating of one only because I don't think I can give it a zero. Again, very disappointing and embarrassing end to my party. read more
