Quebrada in Arlington is a great bakery along busy Mass Ave! Per other reviews, the spots right in…read morefront of the bakery aren't always available but there are plenty of other spots typically available across the street. Each time I go the bakery is filled with local neighbors getting their morning coffee and pastry. Not much seating available but a nice opportunity to stand and chat with neighbors. I have only had the cupcakes here for birthdays and gifting, which are simple but great. Pricing is fair and even more affordable than some brands in grocery stores (with Quebrada's being much tastier). The display cases are filled with tons of other pastry options that I will have to try one day.

Ok, but a little disappointing. It must be difficult running a business like this and building a…read morefollowing. I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

It hurts to write a break-up review. Maybe I'll get Laufey to write the song for this…read more This used to be one of my favorite places for croissants in the Boston area. Now it's quite underwhelming. The apricot croissant is now some smaller glorified danish that has no richness or personality. The plain croissant is quite "bready" now, whereas it used to be light and buttery. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have a different croissant supplier now. What saved this spot from a lower grade is that the pain au raisin and chausson aux pommes are passable. Also a save is that they still offer various French products, from soaps to cheeses to canned goods. I have to find a new French bakery in the area.

We tried to Ham & Butter Baguette, Cheddar & Scallion Biscuit, and Cinnamon Roll. Venture forth in the search of delicious pastries and so on. A friend put me on to Breadboard, specifically, the Friday-only egg salad sandwich, but when I showed up, I was feeling something sweet. The kolaches came highly recommended - I went with the seasonal rhubarb flavor. Perfect touch of sweetness, nice balance of the cream. The dough had a nice eggy chew to it. Reminded me of a cross between an American-style fruit Danish and an Asian-style milky bread bun. I'll have to try the other varieties next. (Also, I may be running afoul of personal photo guidelines by posting a photo of the kolache with two big bites taken out of it but I was the uncouth beast stuffing it into my gob at a traffic light.) Got my husband the cheese croissant snail; he said very delicious. The hours are tricky, double-check before you come and do come early. Street parking available - I managed to snag a spot right in front of the store.

The chestnut almond cake was awesome! It had fresh whipped cream and chestnut cream on the outside with almond bits inside the roll. It was light and delicious. I only wish they had more chestnut puree in the roll. The mango vanilla cake was also very good too. It was a vanilla sponge cake mixed with mango puree. Out of the three, the green tea red bean cheesecake was my least favorite. I usually like green tea desserts but I thought the green tea red bean cheesecake had a hard texture. You can also pre-order zongzi prior to the Dragon Boat festival day. They don't use preservatives which is a good thing. They also come with instructions on how to reheat them. Pretty cool. Definitely will come back for more chestnut almond cake!

He had MCAS today so he deserved a treat. I got a spoonful and it was excellent. The only drawbacks to this place are there is nowhere to sit, and prices are not marked in the case. There are benches outside, though, for when the weather is nice. And maybe farther down the road from the pandemic the owner could remove some of the fixtures and add seating. But I would recommend adding pricing to the cases to those on a fixed budget.

The variety of cookies is remarkable--linzer, tuxedo, florentine, shortbread, ginger, chocolate chip of course, butter cookies dipped in dark or white chocolate, you really need to look at the website to get the full appreciation of the creativity that goes into these cookies. There are always seasonal cookies on offer -- last month Christmas, now heading into Valentine's Day and soon Easter. The cookies are always moist and fresh, and you'd better plan to get there early in the day if you want your pick.
