We hired Cake Ann for our wedding this past September and they absolutely nailed it (for both style + taste!) My fiance and I had a very specific vision in mind for what we wanted and the Cake Ann team met with us in person and discussed what we were looking for in detail, asked a ton of questions, and were very attentive. Honestly 50% of the reason we chose them after trying a bunch of different places was because of how listened to we felt during our conversation (the other 50% was because of how good their cake tasted!). I'm not kidding - on the spot the team whipped up a new flavor for us to try (a chocolate hazelnut ganache with nutella buttercream) which was a flavor they didn't have on the menu, and we ended up loving it so much we chose it as one of our cake flavors! I'm really not sure where to begin here. My now husband and I live in Colorado Springs and decided we wanted to have our wedding ceremony in Salem since we officially started dating there in October 2020. Decided I wanted to give them the business (small local business) so I ordered the cake, asked to have Happy Birthday S&P. Notes were written down, phone number and name taken, paid in advanced. Went on Saturday to pick up cake. The three kids working there could not find my name or number. Finally gave me a cake with no writing on it, too big for box, jury rigged a slanted top. They told me to stick it in the trunk since I was traveling with it. I asked for a bag or something to completely cover it, no they did not have anything. I had a very disappointing experience at Cake Ann. The clerk who waited on me asked me if I was staying or doing take-out. She handed me a ceramic plate and a paper cup for my coffee. I was sitting with a small group, and 2 of us wanted some more coffee. When I returned to the counter to inquire about refills, the clerk told me that she only gives free refills to her regular customers and she didn't recognize me so she refused to give me a free refill. I told her I was local to the area for many years and I've been to the bakery before. I paid for the refill and returned to my seat where I was sitting with a group of friends who ordered coffee and baked goods. Then, the owner stopped by our table and told us that she only gives refills for ceramic cups, not paper cups because to-go cups are larger and hold more coffee. I specifically told the clerk when I ordered that I was staying and she chose to give me a paper to go cup. The refill policy shouldn't be based on who the customer is or which cup the customer has. As a customer, it was very disappointing to be treated this way. My group agreed that in the future we would find another breakfast place to frequent. read more

What a fantastic bakery. My first experience was for my daughter's first birthday, I spoke to Inga on the phone and she helped me design a perfect cake and cupcakes. We also got some savory items, some meat pies (awesome, and quite large), and they were even able to accommodate some GF/vegan requests. Last night my FIL picked up a cake for my husband's birthday, a carrot cake with a yummy frosting. Let me say I was initially skeptical as I'm not a carrot cake fan - I was proven wrong. I've driven past Cake Ann's sign many times when going to visit my mother - I love that they have cute plazas now with stores, definite improvement from when I lived locally. We finally decided to stop in to try their sausage meat pies on a Sunday morning. First off, wow, just wow at the selection of bakery items. Had I not been very bad just the day before and eaten too many sugary items I would have purchased several from Cake Ann as the variety was awesome. The woman who helped us was very nice. She described the ingredients in the meat pies and they sounded yummy. We bought two and I was impressed with the price (under $10) as I assumed they'd be more. Later that night, we made them and they were so good. Perfectly seasoned with a lot of sausage and just the right amount of potatoes inside. The flaky crust was awesome too. I will for sure be back to buy more (and maybe try some of the naughtier goodies) and really urge you to stop in if you're in the area and looking for quality food! read more

While I am glad that they are in town and that they use good ingredients, one again, I bought some pastries that were less than fresh. $4 for a somewhat stale tiny, mini roll is a bit much. I ordered a birthday cake for 14 people and what I got was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever purchased. We have some chefs in the family and I don't think anybody could've made a cake any better. After 10 people had their fill there was still half a cake left. The price was more than reasonable. I ordered a chocolate cake with white buttercream frosting that said Happy Birthday Mommy. (My grandchildren wanted that written on the cake.) I ended up with a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting (way too much chocolate for the kids), and nothing was written on the cake. Inga made our wedding cake for our wedding aboard a local schooner, and the whole process of tasting, picking a cake, and the end result were all amazing. She was so kind, accomodating, thoughtful, and went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect for us. She mixed up some amazing flavors on the spot for us to try, including an out of the box cardamom and orange flower water combo that was absolutely delicious. We ultimately decided on an almond and raspberry cake which was moist, flavorful, and elegant. Everything was perfect, fresh, and put together just right and our guests were so impressed with the cake. Cake Ann not only creates amazing cake (which they most certainly do) but Inga has been amazing to work with and we felt so cared about throughout. By the way, everything else in the shop tastes amazing too. I had to buy a few cupcakes and other treats every time I stopped in to talk to Inga, and swung by a few more times on top of that. We used Cake Ann as our wedding cake baker for our wedding in September 2019. What really stood out to me about this baker over others was the passion of this bakery and the quality of their ingredients. Our wedding cake was a beautiful buttercream cake with four tiers. It was perfectly positioned and had differing sized tiers as requested which looked extra dramatic. The simple, yet elegant buttercream was gorgeous and was stunning with the roses, greenery and succulents I had brought in by our florist to go on each tier. The cake itself was DELICIOUS! Wedding cakes can be weirdly not that great or just too out there, but I truly LOVED the quality of our cake. The chocolate cake itself was rich, moist and delicious even before adding in the salted caramel frosting. The vanilla cake had a classic pound cake-like texture which was a perfect base for a berry and lemon curd spread. Lastly, we had a layer of spice cake which is my husband's favorite type of cake. The cake was light and fluffy with a cinnamon and spice flavor that was well balanced with a cream cheese frosting. All these decadent flavors were wrapped in a perfect buttercream frosting. Cake Ann did such a great job with my daughter's wedding cake that she had people pulling her aside at the reception to make sure she had tasted it. And she was really glad she did. It was a lemon cake layered with lemon curd and mixed berries. So light and delicious for a summer wedding. The cutting cake was adorably small ~ just perfect for a few photos. The larger sheet cakes were beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Sadly, too many desserts went uneaten because folks were dancing, but I ate a few extra to be able to write an accurate review ;-) Inga also make some delicious mini key lime tarts for our bridal shower, too.
