Pre-pandemic I enjoyed stopping here on frequent trips to Louisiana. Last two trips, maybe not so much. The little, young, girl taking orders, both times, was mask-less while everyone else who worked there, that I saw at least, were masked up. She's the one person there that literally interacts with everyone who comes into the restaurant. Were she infected and asymptomatic, she could spread the virus to someone(s) of the hundreds she interacts with daily, who could possibly get very ill. Of all employees there, she's the one who absolutely has to mask up. I just notice that I haven't reviewed Cajun Tex in quite some time. I've grown to like it a bit more than I have before, though it's still not my favorite place. I'm not sure if my change in view is because the restaurant has gotten better or I've learned to order more carefully. I quite like the chicken wings, a dish that I've never really ordered much of anywhere else. Fried fish has gotten a bit better, as has the gumbo, though I would never cite it as great gumbo. But it's fair. Sanwiches are decent, especially the "Cajun Bear" Po Boy that features local smoke house Bear Creek's Bear Creek Smoked Jalapeno Sausage. (Bear Creek are great folks and have a thriving mail order and in store smoked hams and turkeys.) It's really a semi-counter service restaurant -- order at the counter and they brind you food to you. Self-serve on drink refils, etc. It's a restaunt that we've included in our typical local rotation on a once or twice a month basis. read more

Gator bites were small, but the pasta dish I had was pretty good. Decently priced & good flavor.

We had gumbo and etoufee. They were good. They came with little meat pies that were like an empanada filled with Cajun spiced meats. Good value. Portion sizes were small for Texas but just right for us. We didn't leave hungry or overly stuffed. read more

Stopped by here looking for some catfish for lunch. But their menu was so full of options that I changed my mind. I had the fried green tomatoes and a bowl of seafood gumbo. The tomatoes came with a side of spicy ranch, but it was pretty mild, but delicious. I ate one and saved the rest for my trip home. It was hot and tasty. The tomato inside the breading was sliced thickly so it was easy to eat. The dialing gumbo was wonderful and full of gumbo, crawfish and bits of shrimp. The roux was dark and flavorful. Last time I was there the rice in my etouffee was in solid chucks. Looks like the kitchen staff over cooked the rice till it dried out at the bottom of the pot. That happens, but please don't be so lazy to scrape this garbage into my food. Gross. read more

Passing thru looking for some good food Went inside to order. Asked for extra sauces and butter. Ordered 4 appetizers Boudin balls, Cajun fried green tomatoes, Fried Alligator Cajun Cornbread. We got Good ...Boudin balls Crackling size Alligator bites. Literally the size of my first digit on my pinky, looked like the leftover fried crumbs in the fry basket Cornbread was described as 3x3 by 3 inch thick pieces getting 2 pieces. We got 2x3by 1 inch thick pieces of hard cornbread with Liquid Margarine in a ramiken. ( that's not BUTTER that's cooking oil) GROSS Fried Cajun tomatoes were 3 end pieces cut to thick the crab stuff in the middle was over cooked but edible. No I would not eat there again. read more

What a wonderful experience! We were immediately and warmly welcomed, and given excellent customer service. We had a large party, and were given the option to sit at a table to wait for everyone to arrive before ordering at the counter. Once our food came out - which came out quicker than expected - we were very pleased with the heat, both temperature and spice-wise! All of our meals were excellent. We brought in a birthday cake not expecting such a wide variety of desserts offered at the restaurant. That was our mistake for missing out on the delicious sounding desserts provided by Cajun Tex! We will definitely return for some bread pudding! So glad we found this place while in town for the Wonderland of Lights. This place definitely deserves all 5 stars! read more

We really liked this place at one time but the service is so horrible now that we will never bother going back again. The manager, Brandi, is abhorrently rude and extremely disrespectful. It's painfully obvious that she knows nothing about customer service or running a business. Also, our food was not prepared as ordered, orders were mixed up and indistinguishable by sight or taste due to the utter lack of any flavor. Not only will I never recommend this establishment to anyone again, after today I will in fact, strongly advise going absolutely anywhere other than this. read more

I ordered the Cajun Tomatoes it's an appetizer. It sounded really good, but I was a little disappointed. The green tomatoes were fried with too much breading for my taste, the ratio of coating to tomato was off. The cake was good, it was a pretty nice size as well as the crab meat on top. There also was a sauce on the bottom that was tasty. Overall, it was good I just wish the tomatoes were better. I placed my order before I got there and the lady was super nice and helpful since this was my first time ordering from here. The lady who checked me out was also very nice! We had a group of 15 show up on Monday (6/21). We called ahead and gave them about a 20 minute heads up. They accommodated us with the back room and could not of been nicer. I know we were alot to handle but the staff was very friendly and patient with us. And to top it off, the food came out quick, hot and delicious! I came here on a busy Saturday evening to very welcoming and friendly workers - just so we wouldn't lose our table when we ordered, a worker put an order number on our table to indicate people were sitting there. We ordered boudin balls (which tastes just like the dirty rice, except fried) for an appetizer, and I ordered a small catfish platter, which was very filling and delicious! The breading wasn't too salty, the catfish strips were large, and the slaw that comes with it was around 2 oz. and tasted fresh and creamy. I ordered dirty rice for a side, which was a wee bit bland, as I was expecting it to have some spiciness to it. My boyfriend had the Louisiana style BLT and it was a bit too much for him when it came to breading, as the tomatoes were fried (and large), but the garlic fries were good. Some things are awesome, some are very good and some are just okay so your experience can easily vary on what you get. Our top 3 favorites are the Bayou BLT, the BBQ Shrimp and the Austin Philly Cheesesteak. The atmosphere is a large restaurant all open with Cajun and Texas decor everywhere. It is a nice place to eat in. The price can get over $15 easy for one of the better items. They do have fountain Diet Dr Pepper. The service is typical and friendly. Avoid. Food is bland. Service is lax. Just not a good experience. I never write a review unless I have been at least twice and had the same experience. I have been to Cajun Tex multiple times and it got worse with each visit. This place needs work. Considering they have been open for the better part of a decade, I would assume they would have the kinks worked out. What a lovely place! Cajun tex delivers again. Saturday night dinner was bumpin with live music and bustle of people. Atmosphere is so much more lively on the weekends because of the band. I ordered the Breaux Bridge classic- my oh my. Blackened catfish with crawfish etouffee poured over. This place sure reminds me of Louisiana. That dish is on point and very affordable. Keep in mind, the blackened catfish portion is twice as much as the fried catfish portion. No idea why it's such a big difference. I also got the crawfish mac n cheese $2.99 special and total came out to $15. Mac n cheese was just okay- I was a little disappointed because it reminds me of easy mac. Besides that, all dishes are awesome. Give this place a try! FYI parking lot is a bit small for its popularity, so my coworker and I ended up parallel parking along the side street of the restaurant. read more

Favorite place to eat at when we're in Marshall. If you like Cajun, this a a great place to stop. Only problem today was that hubby's food was a little "not hot enough" but, my grilled shrimp salad was excellent. Didn't say anything about the temperature this time.
