We were passing through Marshall on a road trip home and we found this place on Yelp. Boy am I glad we did! Great kid-friendly atmosphere with interesting Texas/ Louisiana Bayou decor. I had the Breaux Bridge Classic & my husband had the alligator Po' boy (get the Parmesan fries!). Can't go wrong with either one. **My kids (7 and 5) liked this place too: This restaurant was magnificent! I had Mac-n-cheese & oranges and it was so good that I ate all of it! The Oreo ice cream dessert was so good and refreshing on a hot day. This restaurant was the best I've ever gone to and it was so delicious that I finished all of my burger & oranges. The new location near our house in Hallville recently opened. We ordered pick up last night to try them out. We couldn't be happier with our meals. My husband got Breaux Bridge It was 3 pieces of fried catfish with craw fish ettoufee and side of loaded mp , I have 6 piece fried shrimp with side of dirty rice. Wow it was so good. Their menu online wasn't everything the serve. They have an extensive menu. We will be eating there more often for sure. Friendly staff and very nice atmosphere.! Very popular with the locals. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights. This is one of those places where you stand in line to order and your food is delivered to your table. That's ok but I prefer that waitstaff take care of my every need. Anyway, the seafood gumbo is excellent. I prefer a darker roux, but still very good. FYI it does have okra in it and I know some people don't like the okra. We also had fried boudain balls and fried crawfish pies. Yum! The crawfish pie is HOT! Excellent food! Super casual atmosphere with friendly staff. The crawfish potato skins were incredible. The sauce paired well with the crawfish. I also had a po' boy which I was not a huge fan of because it was sort of flavorless. The portion sizes were giant, which means you are getting great bang for your buck. I was really upset with the garlic fries because I hyped them up in my head and all it was, was garlic butter and a pinch of Parmesan... maybe. We found Cajun Tex as we were on a road trip and grew hungry near Marshall The food was tasty and bountiful. My husband had the Breau Bridge (which he's told EVERYONE about!) and I had the small catfish plate with delicious homemade mash potatoes and mediocre cole slaw. It's just okay. Kind of bland. They have an interesting menu but everything just missed the mark. Fried pickle slices are thick cut, so they are all mushy and gooey in the middle. Deep fried rib eye was just okay, no flavor, just fried. Fried oyster po-boy (usually my favorite po-boy) was pretty bland, and I had to go back to the counter to ask for some coleslaw after I started eating it, but it was bland and really greasy. The bread was also very greasy so it needed some coleslaw or pickles or something to cut the grease. The wings are pretty good, but standard wings as any other place. Service was good, I liked the girls behind the counter, very sweet and attentive. I really wanted to like it more than I did. This was the second chance we gave it, we got a lot of food for our money, but we actually just got tired of eating it and ended up taking most of it home and giving it to the dogs. Only reason not five stars is that they do not serve beer. By far the best casual dining in the Marshall area. With a menu that covers all the bases from burgers to wings to crawfish, there is enough variety to keep you happy for many visits. My personal favorite is the chicken fried ribeye... Seasoned perfectly, with a crispy crust and rich gravy, it just doesn't get any more east Texas than this! read more

What a great little gem. We lived in southeast Louisiana for years and years. The food in here is pretty darn good. I had the red beans and rice with sausage plus an extra side of hush puppies. My husband had the cajun pork chops with a side of veggies. Both items were tasty and hit the spot. I wished mine had a little more meat in it, but the flavor and thickness of the sauce was right on target. Add a splash of hot sauce and you are good to go. The hush puppies are super delish cooked to crispy corn perfection. I would definitely order them again. My husband seemed to enjoy every bite of the pork chops. The side of mixed veggies were nothing special, but I doubt too many people come here and order them. There are way too many other more tasty things to choose from on this menu. The decor is kitschy and cute. Bayou boats, gators, and loads of fleur de lis art plus purple, gold, and green with a dollop of French QTR motif thrown in for good measure. They have TVs and plenty of room for large parties. I also noticed outdoor patio seating. It was clean in the both the restaurant and bathroom and the staff were friendly and attentive. If your travels brings you through this neck of the woods this aint a bad spot to spend a little time and money. read more

Cajun Tex review, 4 stars is my review. I had to deduct a star and a half because the food is just good, not fantastic and this place is semi-cafeteria style. You order at a register, sit down and they bring the food to you. Not what I call a "proper" restaurant. Halfway towards cafeteria. So that leaves it at 3-1/2 stars but I gave a half star back because the staff is great. Very friendly and helpful...so 4 stars it is. A very cool, wide variety menu, and for your average schmuck I'm sure the food is fantastic. I cook and I have a darned good knowledge of great tasting food. This food is good, not fantastic. My wife ordered the Cajun tomatoes appetizer for her meal. A great concept; two fried green tomatoes, topped with a crab cake, topped with hollandaise, topped with crab meat and the whole thing sprinkled with Cajun seasoning. She said it was good but not great and that my fried green tomatoes with green tomato white gravy blows it away, and I make a simple microwave hollandaise that would put theirs to shame. Again, if you don't cook well, you may think this stuff is top notch so your mileage may vary. I ordered the fried pickles, the gumbo and the Boudin plate. The fried pickles were good, not the best I've had. The gumbo was very chunky and full of meat and vegetables and was good, but fell way short of the deeply developed flavor of a solid gumbo with a dark roux like gumbo is supposed to be. Again, my own home cooked gumbo, as a lifelong Virginian is way better than this gumbo just a few miles from the Louisiana border. The Boudin was unremarkable, but decent. I did think the way they fried it was cool and it made the casing snap when bit and totally all edible (it is not usually done this way, normally it is boiled or steamed and you squirt/suck it from the casing and discard the casing). I can tell you where to get awesome Boudin but I don't know if this site allows that. I have also made much better Boudin myself at home but I can't stuff the casings properly. The Boudin balls were pretty good, but not knee buckling. I liked the crispy exterior but I would step on the flavor big time with both the Boudin and the balls. I suppose most people are afraid of flavor and heat so that is why so much Boudin out there is bland. Boudin should smack you in the face with flavor and some heat. The dirty rice was not bad at all. It tasted a lot like their Boudin, which is better as a rice flavor but lacking for Boudin flavor. The portions were very large. A cup of gumbo at this place is literally a bowl. The bowl at this place is a serving dish that would normally be put in the center of the table for everyone to serve from. You will not leave this place hungry. Obviously I only tasted a tiny percentage of the menu, but for a place with Cajun in the name you can judge pretty well just from gumbo and Boudin. This is a very popular place with the locals and we had to park down the street at lunchtime. Oh, the tea was very good and they have a few very nice sounding desserts as well. My wife bought a piece of pecan cobbler to take with us. Give this place a try. We will probably never be through here again, but if we were, I would go the 5 miles off rt. 20 again in a heartbeat to try more of the extensive wonderful menu. I really, REALLY wanted to like this restaurant, and HOPE they will read the review and make improvements because I'm sure based on the reviews below that much of their menu is great. Great atmosphere and fantastic customer-friendly service from the moment you walk in the door. Loved that. No alcohol - we can take or leave it, but do like to have the option. Mushroom Swiss cheese burger. Great burger - small "fixins" bar. Garlic parmesan fries - Amazing. Texas Twister potatoes: Homemade potato chips - flavorless. Grilled Shrimp Salad: Please, PLEASE, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE, lose the "salad in a sack" with the horrible chemical preservative which I can immediately smell and certainly taste. Is it really that difficult to provide fresh cut lettuce (even if it IS iceberg) for a decent salad offering. I'm sure the homemade bleu cheese dressing was fabulous, but who could tell with this awful tasting lettuce. Desserts looked fabulous, but we didn't indulge. I'll be back to give them another try and I pray the management sees this review and corrects the problems. read more

The food is reasonably priced and good quality, but the customer service is severely lacking. Twice I've ordered online for curbside pickup and both times, when I arrived, parked, and called the number for them to bring it out, nobody answers the phone. This causes me to have to get out of my truck, wait in line, and eventually ask someone to give me my order. The young girls that work the registers don't ever apologize or show concern that there was an issue; they are indifferent and unfriendly. Having to go in and wait in line completely defeats the purpose of ordering curbside (especially in the middle of a pandemic). read more
