Stopped here on our move to Houston. The only disappointment about this place is the fact that we'll be 3 hours away from it! My husband had the gator and shrimp po'boy with cajun fries. I had the chicken fried rib eye with bacon cheese fries. We also got the crawfish cornbread as an appetizer. The portions were giant! We love Johnny and we can taste pure Cajun love that he puts into his food. The staff is primo for Marshall.. (fast food eating places in town tend to have rude service) but not at Cajun Tex.. nope he wouldn't allow it. Went with the family tonight and was very pleasantly surprised. I had the Breaux Bridge plate (or something like that --can't remember the exact name) and I highly recommend! 3 generous pieces of grilled blackened fish topped with crawfish étouffée. Spicy, but not too. A wee bit too salty, but still delicious. Came with dirty rice. Great portion for $10. Kids meals are generous also and I LOVE that they come with a choice of steamed veggies (I think they were just a frozen variety, but at least they offered a vegetable!). Kid's burger was more than enough for my child; not the tiny, flat, 2 oz burger places usually serve. Hubby had the shrimp platter. Decent amount of shrimp with a choice of side. He chose the loaded mashed potatoes. Not low cal for sure! We also had fries and fried green tomatoes. Again, very nice sized portions for a fair price. Both were fresh, hot, and crispy. I mean, why eat fried stuff if it isn't hot and crispy? Would be great if they sold beer as it would go perfectly with this food! The only part I might change is the ordering process. Since the total came out to $45 for a family of 4, it sort of puts this place in the realm of a regular restaurant. I wouldn't have minded having table service and someone to refill drinks. Not a deal breaker, but just a thought. We are actually spending the night in Jefferson, but drove here as Sunday choices in Jefferson are limited, and so glad we did! Worth the 14 miles. Excellent Po' Boys!!! I think that the shrimp was some of the best seasoned shrimp that I have ever had. The atmosphere is fun and feels as though you are a part of the swamp. I ate for the first time today. I ordered the healthy lunch special, which was a fish taco and streamed vegetables. I ordered my meal without salt. Not only did they skip the salt, they put the sauce on the side just in case I did not want it. I thanked her as I did not even know it had sauce. I enjoyed my healthy meal. This place was the best cajun food I have ever tried & the price was reasonable. The rice & beans were delicious (just like any other rice and beans) but they were 4$. A cup was about the size of a regular bowl... I am very curious what the bowl looks like. Rice and beans come with 3 hushpuppies that were delicious. I also got chicken ( I forgot what kind ), and it came with giant portions of chicken topped with fried onions and some kind of green veggie. My mom got the muffuletta and the shrimp po boy & she said they were both amazing and tasted like she was in LA. Highly recommend this place. read more

I ordered fried shrimp, catfish, and garlic fries. Typically at restaurants, the cole slaw & hushpuppies are "throw away items" that are not anything special. At Cajun Tex, the coleslaw was flavorful, fresh, and crispy! The hushpuppies were crispy on the outside & soft on the inside. The shrimp was lightly breaded, and the catfish was juicy inside, crispy outside. I would definitely return to Cajun Tex-worth the drive!! read more

This was our second visit, two years apart. Portions are large and score high for flavor. We love the fusion of more Tex items like chicken fried steak (ribeye here!) with the traditional Cajun flavors. On both visits the fried green tomatoes were a little greasy, but worth it if you don't get those much. The "steamed" veggies had a peppery butter seasoning, which my 4 year old didn't love. Also worth noting that the fries are batter-fried so they are extra crunchy. Would love to try the garlic version on our next visit! read more

Marshall, TX is in the Lone Star state, but it's not far from Shreveport and the menu shows influence from both directions. The menu is huge, the prices can't be beat and the portions are enormous. Only real downside was that the girls behind counter seemed distracted or disinterested. We also ordered the Texas twister potato's and they were enormous.
