I met some friends in Marshall for lunch and chose Cajun Tex because of the good reviews. Ordering was easy and the girl at the register was very nice. We each ordered the same lunch special, fried fish and shrimp platter. It was so-so. The shrimp was extremely salty. The fish was good, according to my friends, but I found it a bit undercooked and too soft. The lone hushpuppie had corn in it and was okay, but the fries were amazingly yummy! We also got 1 bowl of seafood gumbo to share because we wanted to try it out. First of all, don't order the gumbo. Just don't. We have all eaten gumbo throughout our lives and honestly, this was the worst gumbo we've ever had. It was more like some brown gravy that didn't taste right even before seafood was added. It was bad. The restaurant floor was extremely sticky, and the ladies restroom needed a good scrub down. I can't really say if I'd recommend Cajun Tex since I haven't tried much from the menu, but I would say if you go, the one thing I would recommend would be the fries.

Amazing flavors, huge portions, and super tasty! The decor takes me to the Bayou of Louisiana, full of eclectic fun items and a cute help yourself side item bar. Staff was very friendly and they have a great variety on the menu. Worthy of 5 stars!

I tried this place on a rainy day. I ordered the chili cheese fries and the lemon pepper wings with ranch. The chili had a bitter taste to it but the wings were good. The blackened pasta was ok but the sauce was runny and not a thick Alfredo sauce. The restaurant wasn't clean. There was some dirty tables and trash under the table. When we sat down a worker came and was cleaning tables and sweeping.

I loved it. The Red Beans were scrumptious and the Gumbo hit the spot. While the etouffee was absolutely loaded with crayfish tails and seemed authentic, I found it woefully under seasoned. I loved being able to try this trifecta, enjoyed the garlic bread that came alongside. Delicious iced tea.

This place was great!! We're Marylanders traveling from Dallas back to MD and stopped here for dinner. We had a bunch of questions about the menu but the staff were really patient and friendly with us. We got two apps - pickles and meat pies - and three dinners - pork chop, chicken and waffles, and a shrimp dish I can't remember the name of. Dessert of course was the beignets. It was all DELICIOUS I'm genuinely sad I likely will never eat here again, that meal will stay in my dreams.

We were driving from Caddo Lake to Houston and wanted a filling lunch for the drive! I couldn't decide and my soup addiction kicked in.... so I overordered. Fried green tomatoes: SMASH! Breading is perfect, thickness of the tomato is perfect, sauce is perfect... they are PERFECT! Soup sampler: crawfish etoufee, red beans and rice and gumbo. All three were magical, my fave would be the red beans and rice overall. Comes with 2 slices of bread and the potions are generous. Shrimp po'boy smothered in crawfish ettoufee...was my favorite part of the meal. I love a messy/wet sandwich and this had all the elements, crunchy bread, big fatty shrimp, tons of crawfish. I plan on making this place a more frequent stop on my travels!

Excellent family night out at Cajun Tex. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give them a try. The food was great. Catfish, shrimp, boudin, fried green tomatoes; all good. Service was friendly and prompt. Top it off with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Camping at Caddo Lake State Park, we decided we needed to drive into Marshall to get some Cajun cuisine. Read all the good reviews on Cajun Tex and some of the not so good ones. It seemed a lot more positive than negative and we were so glad. The place is great from the moment you walk in the door it just feels like the Bayou. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I would suggest reading over their menu online prior to arriving. They have so many items and the big boards don't really give you any ideas on what might be in/on them. Plus it might help to decide if you are in the mood for sharing or taking a chance on ordering a whole entree for yourself. On this particular trip my wife and i split an appetizer and entree and it was perfect. We split the Cajun trio (2 fried boudin balls, 2 natchitoches meat pies, & 2 natchitoches crawfish pies they were all so good but my wife and I loved the boudin balls best. We then settled on the Bayou Party for our entree, 3 stuffed shrimp topped over with crawfish etouffee & served over dirty rice. I mean you better bring the hunger cause it is plenty of food and so dang tasty. We loved everything about the meal, except we ran out of etouffee for the remaining stuffed shrimp. Oh, did I mention the log of garlic butter toasted bread that comes along with it. Yea, that is a keeper as well. Today we got a jump start on dinner and so glad we did (4:45ish) because by 5pm they were getting a steady stream of customers but the staff did not miss a beat. I was pretty impressed with all of their smiles and just the over all joy they seemed to show to all. We are camping till Monday and feel pretty confident we will make a point to stop here on the way home, maybe grab a cup of gumbo and po'boy for the road. Plus a couple of beignets whats a road trip without white powder everywhere... The only reason they did not get 5 Stars was sweet tea tasted old..

Wow!!! Don't let the small outside appearance scare you off!! This place is full of love. First off, the girl taking my order was polite and super helpful with the menu. The menu....there is so must to try and all that I tried was fantastic. You have to stop and try it....there is no way you can leave hungry!!!

A tale of 2 (or 3) meals. We started off strong. Great Ambience, The appetizers were out quickly and were outstanding (fried green tomatoes and fried alligator). Then the main course - The shrimp and crawfish pasta had probably been in the window too long as it was cold on top and lots of crawfish shells mixed in. Husbands shrimp platter was heavy on the breading but well cooked. Dessert was fried chocolate pies with vanilla bean ice cream (bluebell of course) But they went crazy with the powdered sugar but the manager was happy to replace them unfortunately the definition of a fix was to replace the exact same pies. Including the one bite. we will not do again

love this place, everything I've tried. Only criticism would be the crayfish cornbread, some days is great, others it is too hot to eat.

Instead, I had one of…read morethose meals that makes you sit quietly for a minute afterward questioning why you ever eat anywhere else. The seafood was ridiculously good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the seasoning was on point, and everything came out fresh and hot. I'm convinced somebody in that kitchen has a direct connection to the Gulf because there's no reason seafood in East Texas should taste that good. The place was busy, the staff was hustling, and somehow everything still came out fast. By the end of the meal I was already planning what I was ordering next time before I had even paid the check. If you leave Skipper's hungry, that's honestly a personal decision.

I went here with my dad who was born and raised in the area. He explained that we should go early…read morebecause they can get really busy, really quickly. So we went at around 4:45 in the afternoon on a Friday. There was already a 20-30 minute wait for a table inside, but instant seating on the patio, which we took. I'm breaking this into two scores--the food which is the most important, and the service (not just waitress, but overall). Food 4.5 stars--not perfect, but very good. Service 3.0 After getting seated on the patio we were told the server would be out shortly. After about 15 minutes I went back in to ask for menus--coincidently the person that seated us was telling the server that they had people at our table, so I turned around and went back out. Shortly thereafter we were given menus and we ordered drinks. Dad got 50/50 tea and I got water and a whisky rocks which confused the waitress. "So like, with Coke?" No, ma'am, just the whiskey poured over rocks, whatever your house whiskey is, I'm not that picky. We already knew what we wanted and ordered the catfish filets with fries, and fried okra. The food came quickly, but still no drinks. Eventually those came out. My whiskey was in a larger glass, not a whole lot but enough not to complain. The waitress then asked if I wanted a straw for it because she wasn't sure. She might have been new to service, so I'm not upset, I was more amused. She is working at a bar/restaurant but perhaps the servers are kept seperate and she's not used to running for the bar. The food was excellent. The catfish was freshly fried, the outside a good crunchy crust and the inside darn near dissolved it was so tender and moist, not even a hint of being over or under done. Excellent flavor, it didn't need the house made dips (a tartar and a cocktail sauce, both great), but they complimented it. Tartar was heavy on mayo flavor than traditional tartar, but you could still tell what it was. Cocktail sauce seemed fairly standard, I guess I can't promise that one was house made. Two jalapeno hush puppies came with it. They were standard fair, a little bit of spice, enough to enjoy while letting non-spicy people still tolerate it. Crunch went deep, the center was cooked but a lot less of the ratio than the crunch outside. Fries were also standard, but fried well, good crunch and fluffy inside. Fish was the absolute star, it was "close your eyes and enjoy" good. Fried okra was bland. It was crunch on the outside, soft but not gooey on the inside so they treated it well to reduce the slime, but it didn't stand out from any other fried okra I've had. Wouldn't get it again, but it was cheap. Didn't get checked on very often, I think we were offered drink refills when we asked for the check. Got the bill. Fish plates, $16. Okra side: 3.50. My one ounce of whiskey, TWELVE DOLLARS. I don't know if she rang it in wrong, or if their prices are just ridiculous for that stuff. Lesson learned, don't order alcohol here. But most certainly order the fish. Service lacking, perhaps still learning, fish was absolutely wonderful.

I visited Crawdaddy's Kitchen yesterday evening around 6:00 PM to get crawfish. Let me start by…read moresaying the seasoning was absolutely amazing flavor-wise, it was on point. However, the overall experience was very disappointing, which is unusual for me because I have eaten here many times in the past and have never had a bad experience until now. We were seated, and our waitress initially greeted us and brought drinks for me, my daughter, and my friend. After that, service became difficult. It took a long time to find our waitress when we needed refills. Eventually, I had to get up myself, and another server from a different section was kind enough to bring our drinks. When the crawfish arrived, they were extremely small for the amount ordered (three and a half pounds). They were not hot--only warm--and very wet, almost as if they hadn't been cooked long enough. It honestly felt like we received the bottom of the barrel. By the time we received the check, I was extremely disappointed, especially considering the amount of money paid. I'm not sure what was going on that night, but this experience did not meet the standard I've come to expect from Crawdaddy's. I truly hope this was just an off night, because this visit was not the Crawdaddy's experience I've had or expected in the past.
