Gator bites and crab leg plate with potato and brocolli
Tank J.

Quality seafood at decent, market prices. Wished there were more side choices, especially vegetable options. Great garlic butter sauce to top off all of our food and the spicy option is a great added choice.

Not that great. It was ok. I do not recommend this place for quality food. Another option can be better.

I always gave Sushi Avenue good marks, but it's the difference between watching the Gwinnett Stripers and the Atlanta Braves. Everything we had was amazing. They also have a tuna cutting coming up. I got there early was able to get a seat and tried a Tokyo Autumn which is made with vodka, ginger beer, ginger, cucumber and mint--extremely refreshing and a nice way to start off the meal. We did food family style. We ordered the addictive cabbage which is made with raw cabbage, sesame oil and fried garlic chips (super tasty and I understand why they call it that) as well as the smoked scallop. It has an amazing presentation and the sauce I was able to put on the cabbage as well. It only has 2 pieces but was worth it. For the rolls, we ordered the Picante (not pictured), Fujisan and Love Triangle. My favorite roll was the picante because of the spice and the Fujisan had too much imitation crab meat for my liking. Quiet, unassuming spot that has booth seating and tables with chairs that could fit groups of up to 4-5 comfortably. There were two servers who rotated and were helping all the tables and were very sweet. I'll definitely come back!

We were first offered a comfy seat in the middle of the restaurant, but I asked if we could have a cozy corner table instead. The staff gladly accommodated us. After just a few minutes, they let us know a table in the back had opened up, and we immediately agreed. It ended up being the perfect, quaint spot for our dinner date. I had my usual seafood mix along with edamame, soup, and salad, everything was fresh and delicious. My husband enjoyed a beautiful assortment of sushi, which he absolutely loved. Sushi Avenue is simply amazing and continues to impress us even after four years of being loyal customers. Sushi Avenue is a beautiful gem! We want to thank the wonderful staff for their hard work and the talented chefs for consistently creating such delicious sushi.

FOOD: (Sunday Dinner Hour) The sushi choices were somewhat limited and most of the choices were very basic. The sushi rice seemed a bit dry and crumbly, and not very fresh, and most of the rolls did not hold together to be picked up with chopsticks. Some of the sushi did not seem overly fresh, as though it was made much earlier in the day and refrigerated. Flavor and texture were uninspiring. Sushi price point per plate was good. SERVICE: The restaurant was over half empty but it seemed as though they were understaffed. I ordered a soft drink upon arriving, and after 10-15 minutes I had to wave down my server down to reminder her I had not received it. No apology for forgetting my order. AMBIANCE: The restaurant was remarkably loud, given how few patrons were there. Though a restaurant cannot control what customers come in, there were two families with young, screaming children that made my visit less than pleasant. Overall, an underwhelming experience. I will continue to make the drive to Kura in Doraville instead.

Decatur Rd. at a very busy intersection, it sits tucked into a tiny shopping center, blink and you will drive right past it. Parking is limited, and you can immediately tell the small lot fills up fast, especially during peak hours. I stumbled upon Tenya while in town on a Tuesday, scrolling Yelp in search of a solid lunch spot, and I'm glad I did. This is a family-owned Japanese eatery that specializes in comfort food, and according to their website, everything is made from scratch, which absolutely shows in the quality. I placed my order online and picked it up with ease. I ordered the Shrimp Saku Saku appetizer along with a fresh garden Tenya salad. The shrimp were excellent, perfectly crispy with a flavorful panko coating that didn't feel heavy or greasy. The salad was impressively fresh and came with their house-made ginger dressing, which paired beautifully with the crisp greens and added just the right balance of sweetness and tang. Inside, the restaurant is quaint and cozy, with a decent amount of seating for its size. The customer service was warm and welcoming; the lady at the counter greeted me kindly and had my order ready shortly after I arrived, making the pickup process smooth and pleasant. A nice bonus is the selection of packaged Japanese snacks and drinks available at the counter, always a fun touch and something you don't see everywhere. Next time, I plan to dine in and explore more of the menu, along with sampling some of those snacks and drinks. Tenya is a great example of simple, thoughtfully prepared food done right. I'll definitely be back.

The service was impeccable and there's even a call button at your booth to discretely call your server. Our Japanese waiter was so friendly and very helpful. Oh and the booths are the way to go. Cozy and intimate so you feel like you're just with the company you came with. Haven't really seen many places like this lately and I must say, it's very appealing. And then there's the food. Every single dish that we had was a wonderful. My Japanese mother thoroughly enjoyed her meal at Nagomiya and commented that it was all very authentic. Her favorite is always chawanmushi (steamed egg) which is usually rare to find at restaurants. And the fish was all very melt in your mouth fresh. But not only do they do sushi well, their tempura was perfectly battered and fried and the hamachi kana was cooked just right. Highly recommend!

The restaurant itself is charming as they have private booths with curtains, which makes for a cozy dining experience. I ordered the sukiyaki with a mini chirashi and shared the okonomiyaki. The chirashi was the really good because the fish was fresh and flavorful. However, the sukiyaki was a bit too salty for my palate, and the beef was slightly overcooked. The okonomiyaki was enjoyable, though I personally would have loved a bit more sauce to round it out. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but there is definitely some room for refinement with their main dishes.
