A great place to visit if you are a mom of very young kids, you need a break, you are dying for tasty barista coffee, and you need WiFi. Don't have a kid? The entry is designed to let patrons enjoy the food and coffee without having to be surrounded by kids. Great set up. I won't give 5 stars as it can get very pricey. Admission per child over 1 year is 7 bucks. Add a latte (5.50ish) and a snack (between 2 and 7 bucks), your bill is close to 20. Is a tired mom willing to pay 20 bucks?? This one is. Playground is small so you can relax with little kids without worry. If you have older kids...say 4 years old they will get bored rather quickly. I'd say 3 and under is perfect. There is also a designated baby space too. I like the come here if I want to space out and have conversation. The coffee is delicious. The food is good. The snacks are very kid and adult friendly. I really enjoy this place more than the other indoor playgrounds. I have a one and a half year-old so this is the best place in my opinion for toddlers. The tables are close to the play area so it's easy to watch them play. They have a good variety of different types of toys and it's never too busy. They also have a Lots of little extra things such as diapers in case you forget a nice change room area, baby food for sale etc. Their cafe is simple selling coffee's, lattes, tease banana bread, pizza, sandwiches etc. the price is also very good. You can rent it out for a birthday parties also. I would definitely recommend this place read more

Went there with my 3 year old and 3 month old on a Friday. Positives: The play area is big enough to keep a 3 yr old entertained for several hours with a train table, small climbing structures/slides and a 'track' on the outer edge for the self propelled cars or scooters. But so big that you can't see the kids from any seat including being in the baby area. There is a button to press to leave so kids can't escape. As well there is an extra exterior change table to the bathrooms with sink and diapers and wipes available. This area was clean and had lysol wipes available too. Cons: Although it was a cold day, the floors were pretty cold for sock feet when not on the play area. Checking in and ordering was very slow (one till) and it long time to get food, though it tasted good and they brought it to the table (breakfast sandwich and latte). Also we didn't see a staff come out to clear or wipe a table in the 3+ hours we were there. Overall, despite it being a bit expensive (10.45 total with tax) for one kid, we would go back as its a good place to accommodate baby's and toddlers at the same time. read more

Honestly, this place is nothing special. You have to pay for your kid to play here and they don't even clean their toys. There are plenty of places that sanitize and are free for littles under one. They advertise free diapers and wipes, I'd rather them spend that money on paying someone to clean all their toys. When I was there it was freezing inside, like 17 degrees when it was -30 out. I paid 8$ for a sandwich that had canned vegetables on wonder bread. It seemed a tad over priced and they had little variety. My baby LOVES playing at Café O'Play during the past year, so we decided to celebrate her first birthday party here. When we made the reservation, the communication was smooth and excellent. We were lucky to get a spot two month before the birthday, as it was almost fully booked. So make sure to call as early as possible if you would like to host your party here. On the party day, we we arrived 15min before the scheduled time, the room was ready for us to decorate. They provided free coffee and tea, each kid has a box of juice. They also set up a long table with table cloth, plates and utensils. The staff was very friendly and helpful during the party. What I like the most is you can bring your own food, comparing to other places that only gives hot dog or pizza, and don't allow outside food, we can make sure our guests have a better meal here. We had a wonderful birthday party at the Café O'Play, all the kids had so much fun and guests were happy. It's just so nice to have the whole place for ourselves. The pictures are really nice, inside it's a bit of a mess with toys spread out. Kid tripped right away. The outer floor is SUPER SLIPPERY, watch out!! I'm serious about this. I was debating of putting on a helmet on my kid. Which would look ridiculous. The inner playground has a rubber track and a turf which is nice. The bar and coffee layout is quite nice. Free wifi is a bonus. Locked door so kids can't wonder off. Bathrooms nice. Little bit chilly at 22c but now I'm just being picky. Only real complaint is the outer floor is like running on ice. This place was lively! Hard to find parking but worth it when you walk in and join in the fun. Walk in and small cafe on right, staff to let you in the play area after "signing in". No waivers. Small coat and shoe room. Doesn't seem any space for strollers. Quaint play space for toddlers and adjacent space for babies. Not at all big like All Stars or Tree House but was busy enough. Cafeteria style tables all around - will have to squeeze in and make friends to share the space. Lots of different toys and good place to socialize. We love coming to Cafe O Play. It is clean & fair priced, not so crazy busy & loud like the big play places. It is great for mom/parents to be able to sit & relax and enjoy a hot drink/snack and visit while being able to see the kids the whole time. I have a 5yr old & 2yr old and we have been coming here for years. Even my 5 yr old can have a great time for hours here. The staff are friendly, they clean up regulary and the bathrooms are always clean. Some toys/vehicles are starting to show some real wear on them and could be replaced but the kids still love them and they work fine. I even held my 5yr olds birthday here, I liked that you could rent out the whole place to yourself for the party and bring in your own food & cake. They do all the clean up for you. There is a lot of seating, we had over 60 people and it can hold a lot more than that comfortably. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER !!!! we were there on July 21/16 The stuff was snotty and rude and the manager was the same way along with NO management skills once so ever ! People don't tend to wanna spend money and support a business where their greeted rude snotty staff ,and when you bring it to the managers attention there giving yoh dirty looks over his back !!! BUT THANKS so much cafe o play! ! For saving me a small fortune! First off I really enjoyed this place and so did my 7 month old. It was bright, it was loud and there was so much to do she loved it! The inside is beautiful with a large AstroTurf like carpet, toys scattered everywhere princess's castle in one corner and a large train table in the other! There is a small ball pit and some bouncers for the little babies scatters around the tables. They definitely make things extremely accessible with any change tables, high chairs, and safe toys for any age. One of the big highlights for me was the food, it was actually really really good! Frozen hot chocolate was on point and they're drink menu rivals Starbucks. They have a ton of food options and also things for the littles (goldfish, purées, fruit, veggies.) You don't have to worry about forgetting anything! They don't allow outside food aside from rice cereal and formula but the food prices are quite decent. Makes a nice treat out! What I didn't like is unfortunately beyond Cafe O'Plays control. Having a smaller baby I found that I had to be watching her, on top of her, and generally helicoptering around her at all times as the age ranges are so diverse there were a lot of older children throwing, and of course being rambunctious! There wasn't a lot of manners displayed throughout children and many parents were either chatting or on the free wifi offered. Which meant less attention paid to the bigger kids! Again out of the places control, but I do wish they had a specific maybe quarantined off area just for infants or babies under a year! All in all I did really like this place, I had a lot of fun and had good food and great drinks. I recommend this place to any parent, but feel it's a bit more suited to parents with toddlers or at least walkers! read more

Update*** So i had a double birthday for my kids here and it was fantastic. The pics came out beautiful and vibrant because of the amazing decor of the place. There was more than enough space for 90 guests. I had about 55 kids and it did not feel crowded at all. Everyone kept talking about how amazing the party was. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend for a kids party best deal in town. I booked for 3 hours on a weekend. Not much decor was needed unless you have a theme, balloons are pretty much enough. The bakery has great food as well. But you can bring your own food in which we did. One of the few places in Edmonton that let you do that. Major bonus! Bathrooms are spotless big plus. The two tvs can be hooked up to a laptop through an hdmi cord for movies or slideshows. There was plenty of seating and larger tables for food and gifts. It felt private and there was ample parking. We will be back highly highly recommend! Pleasantly Surprised I was very surprised by my visit to the Cafe O'Play on the south side in Riverbend in April 2014. The girls were very nice and helpful. The place was immaculately clean and colorful and it was not overly crowded at all despite the other reviews on here. There was music in the background but not so loud that it's distracting or shouting to talk like in other places. The families were even friendly and it was a nice way to socialize with other parents with small kids. There were parents on laptops and kids running to fast with the cars but if you have very small children, I wouldn't leave them unsupervised. I actually booked my child's birthday party as a result of how much fun she had. I have a 21 month old and 5 month old and would definitely be back and recommend to others. The play area is quite good and big. They have a few pretty impressive play structures so lots for the kids to do. I had the banana bread and breakfast sandwich. The food is much to write home about. The banana bread taste like it's probably store bought and the breakfast sandwich resembles the pre-cooked variety. They are not unreasonable for the price. My biggest dislike about this cafe, however, is the fact that all of their utensils, cups, and plates are disposable. For that reason alone, I probably won't come back. read more

Its a nice place where moms can relax with a cup of latte and let your toddlers play. It's a place for younger kids and toddlers. A great place where both boys and girls can spend time with variety of things to play with. The food price is very reasonable here and staff are very nice. It can be busy at time but never crazy. Unlike other big play place, moms can always keep their eyes on the kids and be aware of kids' play behaviours. Few equipment can be found to be bit worn-out but everything is in a good condition to perform it's safety. Recommend for parents with kids 0-3 of ages. read more

We spent quite a bit of time here when my first was little because it is in the neighbourhood. The concept is good, but I am not sure how often they sanitize the toys. My kids get horrendously sick whenever they go here. The food is super duper pricey, which I understand is how they make money, but it just kind of became unreasonable for us. When I was up from Calgary visiting friends and family, I first stopped by Café O'Play when my daughter was around 2 months old. Because of this initial visit, I now try to make it out to Café O'Play every time I am back in the city! Calgary has a few coffee shops that feature play areas so I was expecting something similar. Fortunately, I was mistaken. The first thing that I noticed is the play area, which is HUGE and contained by a two-lane road. The road is filled with child-sized, non-motorized cars. The play area has numerous large play structures and a full train set, which seems to entertain the younger children. What I like best about the play area is the flooring, which is artificial grass, which I hear is an anti-bacterial material. Something else that separates Café O'Play from its Calgary competition is just how clean it is. I was amazed at just how clean the staff kept the place. The staff were also very polite and considerate. When I was first breast-feeding my daughter, I had issues drinking dairy. The staff went out of their way to customize their chilled red velvet latte for me. Now it is a drink that I find myself craving, although I have since switched back to the dairy version. I find the food and drink to be reasonably priced. I have spent more at Starbucks for less. Also, knowing that it is made fresh and from local and organic ingredients makes me feel comfortable giving it to my daughter. As for the admission fee, I think that it is pretty typical for a coffee shop of this type. If anything, the admission fee is lower than its Calgary counterparts and it starts at an older age. My daughter is not yet one but for some I have already had to start paying admission fees in Calgary. I don't really see the issue in making the patrons wear socks. I would rather that then bare feet! The few concerns that I have with Café O'Play involve the behaviour of some of the parents and how busy it can get. However, my biggest complaint is that it takes me hours to drive there. read more

Took my 18-month old for the last 2 hours today. He had a blast! Granted, it wasn't as busy as what I hear peak hours are like, but he loved all the toddler-level toys, push cars and train sets. It was a very positive experience and far better than going to WEM's Galaxyland Play Park, which is often overrun with unsupervised "big kids". Checked out Café O'Play today for the first time. Happy we got there early because it gets super busy really fast. The staff seemed friendly, and were helpful for a first timer. $7 for a 2 year old to play for a bit seems meh. Could be worse. $3.50 for a baby (over 6 months) that can't crawl doesn't seem worth it. Especially because there's nothing really for them. The one play saucer I saw was missing half the toys on it. Lol. Beverage seemed pretty standard, so can't complain about that. My major issue was some of the parents, which the staff can't really do much about. I get that kids will play and accidents will happen but when one kid is constantly being an asshole I feel the staff should be able to say something to their parents. Lol. My 2 year old was almost pushed down the stairs by another kid who's mom was oblivious to how mean he was being to the rest of the kids. Asked where baby could play and got directed to the blue room where we found crying 5-6 year olds playing right where the babies are supposed to. I have to give this place 5 stars. It may not be completely perfect (really high food prices when you can't bring in any of your own food), but the place is a life saver on those days when your kids have way more energy than you do and you need to give them somewhere safe (all the equipment and the entire area is designed for small children) for them to be able to run around and socialize with other kids. I once overhead some parents talking about how If they owned it, they would bring in creative play things like play doh or colouring and all I could think was "I'm so glad they don't have any of that!" You would constantly have to be making sure your kids weren't getting mess everywhere, eating the crayons, and making sure they were sharing. I think the set up is perfect the way it is. read more

While my almost four-year old son loved the indoor playground, I was underwhelmed by the whole experience. The food, for what it was (sandwiches, soups, some small pastries, etc), was on the pricey side. As an example, a kid's grilled cheese, an adult panini, a kid's milk, and an adult specialty drink all came out to $17. The indoor playground was mostly playhouses, slides, ride-on vehicles, and a large train track...not sure if it's worth the $5 admission they charge for kids ages 1 to 6 and the waiver they make you sign. On their website they mention a small area for babies but the baby area is completely separate from the indoor playground...on the other side of the cafe with the door and a wall separating them so you're out of luck if you have an older child who wants to enjoy the indoor playground and a baby who wants to crawl around, unless you don't mind your baby getting trampled by the older kids as they play. They do have exersaucers in the main part of the cafe. I would avoid late morning as it's fairly busy. Customer service is questionable when it's busy. Maybe it's the sound of all those kids that gets to them... Oh, and don't forget your and your kids' socks. Socks are required and you will have to buy some if you want to get in. read more

This was my first time checking out an indoor playground with my one year old. I realize that a certain amount of mess is expected, what with kids playing all day, but this place is just plain dirty. Like, hasn't-been-cleaned-in-forever (or ever), don't-want-your-kid-to-touch-anything *grimy*. There are a few play structures (standard, toddler-sized plastic slide things), and a few large activity cubes. Most of the other toys (and there weren't many) were broken or didn't work. I could have left after 10 minutes, but I stretched it out to a painful hour just to get my $10 worth. My baby was as unimpressed as I was. I skipped ordering coffee, assuming it would be terrible. I also wouldn't trust ordering food or beverages from such a grimy place. Yuck. Totally sketched out, and will never return. I'd give zero stars if it was possible. Great place to meet with ur other mom friends and have lunch. My parents have even taken my kids there so I could have a couple hours off. My kids absolutely love it there, they are 3 and 18 mo. It truly is only appropriate for under 5's, when 6 yr olds are playing they tend to be too rough and fast for the little ones. I often go just for an hour or so while my 3yr old is in class nearby..for that I find the 6$ cover charge too much for my 18mo old. Also, they really need to get on the ball with their washroom cleanup. their diaper genie is always overflowing and theres always used papertowels scattered about...Otherwise wonderful establishment read more
