LOVE THE TAPAS! The boyfriend, his fam, and I were strolling down La Rambla and were in need of a quick bite amidst all of the touring. We were in the mood for tapas but didn't want to go out of our way to look for something spectacular so we decided to give Cafe de l'ópera a try. Now the name of the restaurant is a bit deceiving as it's French but in Barcelona but it was still worth it. Since we had arrived in the middle of the day it wasn't too packed which was a rather good thing considering it was pretty tightly packed inside like most European restaurants are. Don't be fooled, however, this restaurant is actually two stories and has even more seating inside along with a full service bar at the ground level. We were definitely thirsty for SANGRIA and it did not disappoint. The pitcher itself was good for about four or so glasses each and if we were going to try for a siesta then we probably would have opted for another pitcher. The tapas were pretty tasty as well. I can't remember what they all were but they included sausages, olives, croquettes, fries, and some other breaded item that I can't recall. They also served some bread with cheese which was just lovely. Overall, we had a good experience here and while I can't say I'd actively return here if I was ever back in the area, it is still a viable option for some great food and decent service. Props to their super cute bathroom that I sadly did not get a photo of! :) (9/100-- 2019)

Cafè de l'Ópera is one of the older more established cafes of Barcelona, having been in continuous operations since 1929. The café has a rather nice interior seating area but most of their business is conduct outside on Rambla street median area. The outside café seats are padded, comfortable and for a Barcelona outside area café, has rather good service. Most of the cafes of Barcelona aren't exactly well known for their prompt, efficient or professional service. I tend to use the outside area which couldn't be more ideal for people watching, just taking a relaxing break or having a drink.

This place is great! They have a slot of options for coffee and alot of other drinks. We got the churros with chocolate dip and it was pretty good. I also had the cafe russo which was coffee with a scoop of ice cream which I recommend. This pl lace is great for late night bites and the time that we went it was not busy at all.

Historic and inviting, Cafè de l'Ópera is an inviting place for a quick bite or drink. I had a good time at Cafè de l'Ópera. The cafe has been around for a long time and seems to be a popular place for both tourists and locals. The inside feels like you're walking back in time, with beautiful artwork on the walls and waiters dressed in black bow ties and white shirts. The hot chocolate is a MUST order, as it is literally a piece of chocolate melted into a cup. The waiters here more so than other places was a bit brusque, which isn't too out of the ordinary for Europe. Overall, I'd stop in for coffee/tea/hot chocolate and perhaps a snack but nothing more - there are too many more interesting and better places to eat at in Barcelona.

My very first meal in Barcelona after 35 hours of flights and layovers. This seems to be a much-referenced establishment in any and all Spain guidebooks, though I have no idea what for. Got some plate of pan, jamón, y queso, followed by freshly made churros con xocolata. The food was solid though nothing special -- the xocolata was quite unremarkable and, though the right thickness in consistency, tasted as though made with water than milk/cream. Sort of like when you make Swiss Miss with boiling water vs hot milk, you dig? Staff and customers were all incredibly friendly and I think the whole large meal came out to €8.

As a visitor, this historic cafe is a great place to stop in for a sweet snack if you're wandering around Las Ramblas, and have finished looking at the Liceu Theatre across the way. There's a great mix of locals and tourists like us. There were two older guys reading their papers together across from us, and another couple of locals passionately debating local politics next to us. Then there's us and another couple Excellent. I loved the old world decor - modernist period with classical details, and Viennese influences - made our simple churros and chocolate treat an elevated event. This time I tried the Swiss, which just means they throw a gigantic dollop of good whipped cream on top of the thick chocolate. The service was prompt and friendly, and it was relatively full when we arrived, but we were able to find a seat right away. Lovely experience.

Menu picture vs actual disgusting food.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, DID I SAY HORRIBLE?? Pretty much the worst place ever. Don't pay any attention to the menu as the food looks completely different and tastes TERRIBLE!!! Service horrible and the sangria is probably juice with a splash of red wine at the top to try to convince someone there is wine in it. Steer very clear. I am highly disappointed!!!

Pretty decent spot for Tapas and midday wine while walking on the Rambla. Not 5 star by any means, but decent food and good people watching.

This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly somewhere I would go again. The food was average and overpriced. That rates a Meh from me. We were basically the only ones in here eating. That must mean something. The location was nice though. And we did have our privacy since no one else chose to eat here. Ha.

The churros here is also fried to perfection, and slightly salty which gives a nice contrast to the hot chocolate.

After a dozen attempts to dial in the pour the staff was honest and upfront about the selection that it couldn't be made to their standards. Wow, love this! Instead of giving me my drink and rushing me out the door, it was all about the quality. Being new to espresso making at home I fully understand the 1:2 ratio in a specific amount of time for making espresso. I took their advice and went with another bean selection. My iced cafe latte was for take away and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavors. One thing to note for any Americans that expect sweetener, there is none here. I wasn't bothered by this but I could see many others might be. Looking back I wish I had bought some beans to bring back home to Cali.

Service was fast - order at the middle kiosk and wait for your drink. They have a few iced drinks available, and you can choose which 3-4 beans to make the drink with. We got the iced latte along with the shakerato. The shakerato had no milk, so you can definitely taste the beans/coffee flavor. As for the iced latte, it was definitely less better and slightly more sweet and creamy due to the milk. You still tasted a bit of the flavor of the coffee.

Caravelle is quaint and modern, and the service is definitely on the more lax side. Note: smaller parties may be seated at the communal table, and this place stays busy! Be prepared for a bit of a wait. I started with a café con leche, and although I'm not usually a sweets-for-breakfast kinda person, the croffle looked too enticing online to pass up. Being a huge egg aficionado, I also ordered a side of eggs à la carte. My coffee arrived quickly, but after waiting 30 minutes, I noticed that guests who had arrived after me were already enjoying their meals... When I checked in with the waiter, it turned out my order hadn't gone through at all. I had to reorder, and while waiting, I asked for another café con leche since I was long overdue for a refill. Unfortunately, that second coffee never came--but on the bright side, my meal eventually did. The croffle was freaking divine. Crispy/flakey on the outside, and soft inside. The cream was sweet, but not overpowering, and the tart of the berries balanced out the meal. As I was getting ready to check out, the waiter asked if I had ever received my second café con leche. Embarrassed for them, I admitted that I hadn't... Realizing they'd made ANOTHER mistake, he apologized profusely and quickly asked the barista to make me one to go. To compensate for my time and patience, he generously comped my entire meal, leaving me to pay only for the initial coffee (2.50 euros). Despite the service hiccups, the food was incredible--truly one of my favorite breakfasts in Spain.
