This is our first trip to Rome and Angelo was kind, helpful, friendly and extremely personable. He asked the kitchen if we could get a selection of meats and mozzarella and focaccia. Good place for a decent meal near the Colosseum. We made reservations on-line and arrived on time. We were promptly seated, but had to sit near the door and bar. There was a huge party in the main dining room and no seats available. Service - prompt and attentive. Our server was always available and the courses moved smoothly. We were offered (and happily accepted) an additional mid-dinner sampling of carpaccio with a raspberry sauce - although I was skeptical of the combination, it was delicious. Food - all the dishes we had were good. The carpaccio and raspberry sauce as a standout dish. We also had an interesting and tasty beet amuse bouche. Atmosphere - classic cafe with bar and dining room seating. It's very nice. Overall - surprisingly good for a restaurant that is in the heart of tourist central. Beautiful cafe. Pricey for a place that doesn't have much of a breakfast selection at all. There were only a few items to choose from, the best of which was an omelet. Small for €9. €3.50 for coffee. It's an elegant and romantic setting more for the night time than a bite to eat in the morning. But a gorgeous bar - wow. If I'd do it again, I'd come here for a light dinner and a drink. Location is perfect; close to the Colosseum and other major Roman attractions like the Roman Forum, Imperial Forum and Palatine Hill. read more

WOW! The CARBONARA... What an unexpected surprise! This restaurant is everything you wish for in a trip to Italy but with a twist- total concept restaurant. So the carbonara is tortellini and the carbonara is INSIDE.... what???? How the heck do they get the delicious carbonara inside the tortellini? Pancetta and all- it was so delicious we ordered it twice! The service, the drinks.. I don't want to give it all away because it is so worth the surprise in every dish. Save room for dessert. It will be hard because the specials on the board are excellent. We came two days in a row and ordered what our server recommended. Gricia a Roman pasta dish was delicious. We sat near the bar so we could see the food coming out of the kitchen and it looked perfect. Not a huge menu. But you don't need one. Get the specials. Dessert. Omg the tiramisu is amazing complete reimagined dessert and worth ordering for presentation but the taste is even better than It looks. What can I say except that we came two days in a row and had to taxi the second day to get back on this side of Rome. read more

This nostalgic café is found near Colosseum in Rome, Italy. They have a wide spread of pastries, cookies and probably one of the best tiramisu around. It is a must try! Their coffee is good but temperature can be hotter. Bueno! read more

5 minutes from the Colosseum providing great food, drinks and house made desserts. English spoken. Carpaccio and Salume/ cheese board to start, pastas and local white wine during a blistering hot July day. Waitstaff were friendly and we could hear the Chef bellowing in the kitchen! Flavors were outstanding, bold and pronounced. Pricing was fair, considering where we were and the quality delivered. We really enjoyed it! Perhaps because we do not speak Italian or perhaps just because - the service was terrible. Really poor. The food was worse. We just wanted pasta- The fettuccine pomodoro was made with canned tomatoes and the pasta was under cooked. The spaghetti with Parmesan and truffle was truly disappointing. It was over cooked pasta and dry par Sean with bits of truffle- no olive oil or any cream to mix the 2. I actually had to add olive oil to make it smoother and salt and pepper to add taste as the truffle was really not very strong. we've had much better Italian food in nyc (where we live) read more

The tea selection alone is worth coming here. The biscotti may be a disappointment (at least in the size if they pick the smaller ones for you), and the macarons will give you only one of the two flavors that they're labeled for. But the cheese and the prosciutto were delicious, and the cocktails were nothing short of masterpieces. This was a fantastic place to enjoy all of these in a lively atmosphere. My traveling companion and I basically camped here for a couple hours on a rainy Rome afternoon and loved the atmosphere -- a combination of warm dark wood and white modern tile, accented with the colorful glass of liquor bottles and chandeliers. The service is on the slow side, but we've found that in Rome if the service is fast then the food is probably just okay. The music got loud right around 5pm (it started out as 80s adult contemporary and then moved to a full-fledged Sinatra marathon right around then), and we left just as it was getting hard to hear each other. read more

We went here twice, for dinner and lunch. After the first mediocre dinner experience, we decided to try them for lunch to give them another chance. After all, the decor is cute, near our airbnb, and the food is actually good. However, both visits they did not have what my husband wanted to order. For lunch, we ordered at 12:50pm and they were already out of a menu item that is only served from 12-3:00p. It wasn't even busy and it was a Tuesday. Additionally, I advise asking if a menu item is available before you order your drink to match. The hostess both times was a bit standoffish and seemed irritated that we didn't speak Italian. On our visit for lunch, they also gave us bread and charged us for it despite not ordering it. The prices, in comparison to some other excellent restaurants in the neighborhood, were high. 12 euro for a salad I probably could've gotten somewhere else for a few euros less. read more

We enjoyed lunch here after our tour of the Forum and the Colosseum. This place is relatively new and seemed to be catering to local Romans as opposed to the many pizzerias in the area for tourists. That being said the food was a little hit or miss. Maybe the greatest dish of the trip so far was an appetizer of artichokes prepared 3 ways, including fried in extra virgin olive oil. Great cured meat and cheese plate. The carbonara and amatriciana were too salty, maybe as a result of the big thick slices of guanciale. Do yourself a BIG favor and try it. We've been here enough times to know that the bad experiences that others spoke of are flukes. It's not America, so let that expectation go and you will have a perfectly lovely experience. The wait staff is a but younger, so maybe the service is not the same as the old Italian gentleman in the crusty places. In our visits, the staff has always taken care of business in a delightful and more than efficient manner. We've been treated horribly by so many other eateries in that area that we always look forward to going there, knowing we will have fun and eat good food and drink great wine. If you want a bowl of $12.00 pasta that tastes like every other place in the hood, and rushes the tourists in and out, then by all accounts, this is not your place. If you want innovative and clever food then this is your place. The Food... I can't say enough. We crave it and have even gone home to try and recreate some of the dishes. The reconstructed tiramisu is beyond!!! Cocktails are so good and we loved trying some new wines. Some say the music is loud. We love the vibe there and music only seems loud if it clears out super quick later at night. Just say something, they will turn it down. I still cannot believe the negative reviews. My wife and I found Caffe P. just a short walk down a quaint street after our visit to the Colosseum. It has charming decor and very friendly service. The mozzarella caprese and wine were flavorful and refreshing, but the homemade Fettuccine Della Nonna was spectacular. We finished our meal with espresso and deconstructed tiramisu and walked away with smiles on our faces and full bellies. read more

This place is so perfectly unexpected. It's not typical and that was a treat. Don't hesitate, just go! To reiterate, it's not expected and what I mean by that is: they didn't rush us, they made recommendations and were so fun. It's not the same 5 items that every other place in the area serves, with the same older grumpy guy who obviously hates he's serving foreigners. If your looking for a $10 bowl of spaghetti and a piece of pizza. This is not for you. It's a chef who's innovative and using fresh local ingredients and the food put in front of you is non the typical bowl of pasta from your Nona's 300 year old recipe but rather someone who has that knowledge but takes risks too. The staff (the times that we went ) were a big younger but competent , helpful and friendly. They even remembered us!!! The only bummer is if you fall head over heals for something it might not be there on your next visit of it's a different time of year because they use local, in season ingredients. If they were in San Francisco we'd go every week! We love the vibe and the 80's music. I personally adore this place and think of it often. Ahhh, the tiramisu.
