Within minutes the Head Bartender delivered a delicious appetizer to our table for free. He was very helpful throughout or visit. After a long flight into Rome we checked into the Hotel Artemide. We had to wait a bit for our room so we went upstairs to Ambrosia and the first thing I had was the buffalo di mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes. EPIC! Cute little spritzeria. The staff seemed very busy even though the place was very small. They forgot to bring us menus before coming by to take our order. Drinks came out with a significant amount of time between them, even though my group of 4 all ordered pretty simple drinks and all at the same time. The main reason we went was the view which is essentially nonexistent unless you get seated by the edge and looking toward the colosseum. Otherwise, you're maybe getting some sunset colors, but not much else. If I had the choice to go again, I'd skip it. read more

While the hotel and rooftop are beautiful there really isn't any rooftop seating available. The rooftop dining area is under construction and not open to guests. The only seating available is indoors or the bar which offers little to no view. I hope to return in the future and enjoy the full experience. read more

We had enjoyed the rooftop bar at Hotel Artemis and decided to try Ambrosia, the rooftop restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was booked for for our first two nights, but we secured a reservation for our final night at the hotel. Our views of the Roman sunset were stunning. The menu is a far ranging with some interesting and tasty combinations. Staff was attentive, but allowed a leisurely dining experience. My friend and I were looking for a good rooftop spot pre-dinner and came here for aperitivo! It was a bit confusing on how to get up here as the elevator says "Staff Only" but we made it! Upon walking in, I loved the ambiance - its upscale but also casual at the same time. Not sure how the food is here but the cocktails are a bit on the pricier side when compared to the other aperitivo spots. However, the snacks and views definitely made up for it! My family of 3 had dinner here last night. The setting is absolutely beautiful. The rooftop restaurant is atop a 7-story hotel. So you're not quite high enough to have a full skyline view of the City, but it's high enough that it's completely quiet and serene, which is quite remarkable given how busy and bustling it is at street level (very busy and lively street). We were seated outside in the patio, which is beautifully done - wood deck with patio umbrellas which gives the space a sense of quiet elegance. Before dinner while we were waiting for our table to be readied, we were seated inside, in the bar area. The inside of the restaurant is art deco/chic and really nice but if weather permits, I would highly recommend sitting outside. The cocktail I had, which was the Ambrosia signature cocktail, was absolutely delicious. Served in a martini glass, the vodka based cocktail had kalua, coffee and salt crystals that perfectly married lots of different tastes of sweet, bitter and salty. The restaurant was kind enough to provide some tomato bruschetta and chips while we were at the bar. The bruschetta was delicious. Unfortunately, the 3-star rating is due to the food. It did not live up to the rest of the meal and experience. Since there were three of us, we had an opportunity to try many different things (since I forgot to take pictures of the English menu and the only menu on the restaurant website is in Italian, I will not get the descriptions perfectly right): Antipasti - Prawn carpacchio w/ strawberries - 3/5: The strawberries and herbs were delicious but the prawn was almost unnecessary. Lacked flavor as well as texture. Antipasti - Beef tartare w/ some type of herbal ice cream and popcorn - 3/5: The beef was good but we did not understand the presence of the ice cream nor the popcorn. Did not work cohesively as a dish. Antipasti - Goose speck - 4/5: I've never had goose prepared this way and it was both very good and interesting. If I tasted it blind, I would have sworn it was prosciutto, and a good one at that. Pasta - Tonnarelli w/ black garlic - 4/5: I really liked this but my wife/daughter thought it was a bit bland. I thought the traces of the black garlic came through beautifully and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Pasta - Ravioli - 4/5: Ricotta-filled raviolis in a fresh tomato sauce with small tomatoes in the dish. The sauce tasted so fresh and the raviolis were tasty. Pasta - Calamarata w/ clams and cuttlefish in a white bean sauce - 3/5: The clams were delicious. The problem I had with this dish was that the bean sauce was too overpowering. The entire dish just tasted like beans. Again, the pasta was cooked perfectly. Up to this point, the meal was good (not great), but here is where I feel the restaurant really disappointed. Meat - Braised Pork Belly - 3/5: I'm all for tenderness in the meat and a good amount of fat adding to flavor, but this dish was braised to the point where a fork would turn the meat into mush. I've had pork belly too may times to count but the ratio of fat on this one was too much. The flavors were good, just wish cooked to a point where the meat still had some texture and less fat on the cut. Meat - Steak w/ truffles - 3/5: I'm a huge steak and truffle fan. This one didn't do it for me. The meat was very bland (maybe that's why the waiter specifically brought a salt grinder w/ pink salt crystals prior to bringing this out???). When presented, the steak had lots of big slivers of truffles on top which looked fantastic, and had us wondering how this dish wasn't way more expensive. However, the slivers themselves had no flavor (my wife and I were guessing maybe they used this to infuse flavor into oils that "drained" them of all flavor???). There was a decent amount of truffle essence to the overall dish, just a bit odd to present flavorless truffle slivers... Meat - Lamb: I'm not a lamb fan so did not really taste this one. My wife and daughter both thought it was pretty good. The portion size was the lamb dish was easily 2-3 times as much as the beef and pork dishes, which was a bit puzzling... Overall the protein dishes were lacking. The same sauteed mushroom/vegetable accompanied each dish, the presentation was not very artfully done, and overall the flavors were muted and just meh. Surprising given my expectations from other reviews and how nice the setting was. Not quite the "food for the gods" as the name would imply. read more

The only disappointment we had was the view (or lack of it)... they advertise a view of the Colosseum in their website... nowhere to be seen. Prices were decent, not super expensive. This classy but not pretentious establishment absolutely needs a Michelin star because they deserve one. The service is incredibly attentive without being overbearing. The food's presentation and flavor is 5 stars. The drinks are absolutely divine. I had mocktail and they were art. My only recommendation would be to have more vegetarian options. Must do in Rome. This is the hotel's bar and restaurant atop the Hotel Artemide. We dined her on our last evening at the hotel, in part to save ourselves further walking for the day. Plus, we'd been interested in checking it out. Our first challenge was getting there. The hotel has a front tower and a rear tower, apparently. The restaurant is accessed via the elevator towards the back of the hotel, near the entrance to the breakfast room. Once we figured this out, we were able to find the restaurant. The only other challenge was that the elevator opens both its doors at the top floor, so be careful you proceed the right way (the opposite door from which you enter, as I recall). The weather had turned slightly cool and rainy when we visited, so they did not have their exterior rooftop area open for dining. That might be nice in warmer weather, though. I think we called ahead by 30 minutes or so to ensure a reservation. That may be a good idea, especially if you are not a hotel guest. I'm not sure if they get preference or not. The overall vibe I got here was semi fine dining and bar scene. The clientele was almost exclusively American tourists the night we visited. That may vary from evening to evening, though. The menu was less pasta and more meat and game centered. They may also have had fish. I still got a pasta dish that I enjoyed. I don't recall specifically what others in our party ordered, but everyone like and finished their food. Despite the lively bar / cocktail scene, we did not order any. Prices were slightly above what we'd paid in other local restaurants, but not radically so. I thought pricing was reasonable vs. the higher tier of service here. This place might be a bit of a splurge, but the quality of the food and service (and presumably the drinks too) make it worthwhile. read more

Was wandering around Rome when my husband wanted a rooftop restaurant. Yelp recommended Ambrosia and we were not disappointed! Definitely get a reservation, none were available on the website but said to call for same day inquiries. We decided to show up giving it a shot and they made room for us. With our drinks they gave us a free appetizer which was delicious and a new luggage tag. I got the Totoro drink, not pictured is the show that comes with it. They let us have our first round before moving us outside for the view. Will be back! read more

We checked into the Hotel Artemide and we were offered the opportunity to have dinner at their onsite restaurant. They had availability that evening and we also knew that the restaurant had a rooftop bar. An older gentleman helped us with ordering from the menu (I wish I had remembered his name - he was so kind - he also helped us with some hotel elevator issues) and made suggestions as to what we may like. Our wonderful meal started with some fresh bread and the most AMAZING olive oil - (I need to definitely find out where I can get some of my own!) My husband ordered some tuna tartare to start, which he enjoyed. All of the pasta on the menu is homemade, and some of the menu items seemed very modern and inventive, so I thought it would be fun to try them. I ordered the Orecchiette pasta with beetroot, it was so very good and hit all the flavor palettes, my husband had the tonnarelli pasta with broccoli extract and it was so delicious. We were very happy with our meals and the service was great - timed so nicely and we never felt like we were being rushed out. It was a lovely evening spent having delicious food! read more

A M A Z I N G experience!! I came here for a birthday dinner and this was such a beautiful spot. It was a little difficult to get a reservation, but once my friend and I arrived, we understood why. Call in advance (maybe 2-3 days) to get a outdoor reservation to have a beautiful sunset view. We arrived early so we sat at the bar. Staff were friendly and kind. I ordered my first Pornstar Martini and I was AMAZED! Such a beautifully crafted cocktail by the Bartender who has been there for years! The food was also delicious. I don't have any pictures as I devoured the food immediately. I got the lamb which was perfectly paired with a wine reduction sauce. Outdoor Rooftop was closed for dinner. There is no view at night which defeats the whole purpose of a rooftop restaurant. Indoor rooftop restaurant had poor fluorescent lighting which killed the vibe. You can only call in to reserve a table, no online link. Upon arriving we were stopped by the front desk and the staff was unwelcoming. He said the restaurant was fully booked but managed to get us a table; judging by the picture I took it was empty... The bartender / waiter asked if I wanted a cocktail and I asked for a wine list. He brought me back a glass of red wine and didn't give me a menu to choose the wine. I think his attitude stem from me not wanting his "signature cocktails" which he was trying to sell me. Turns out he wasn't even our waiter. Strange. The food was not bad. The place is pretty. So 5 of us went to celebrate a friend's birthday. We started with the cheese plate and it was great. But things went downhill from there. The pasta we got was just sort of meh. Not a lot of flavor to it. Three of us got the same pasta and none of us would order it again. One got steak, she liked it and one got rabbit, she also liked it. We all ordered drinks...and once we finished them, the wait staff never inquired as to whether any of us would like another.
