My dad and I enjoyed everything about Harry's. The food, the drink, the ambiance. It was fantastic. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant except our waiter Valerio. He was condescending, arrogant and pushing up against rude. I thought at first it was because I was a woman but then 2 lovely men sat beside us and he was exactly the same. I'm not sure who he thinks he is but..... I honestly try to look for the best in people but he was so condescending that when my dad ordered a white wine from Venice, he asked,have you been? We both responded yes a couple of times. He then explained the winery wasn't right in Venice. Really????? There aren't vineyards right in Venice. Obviously. Come on. Obviously. But it is a nice cafe (not a proper bar) and good for getting a drink or snacks. It's got a decent view of ancient walls if you sit outside which was nice. Very friendly staff but definitely more of a tourist restaurant than a local gem. Lots of pictures of celebrities stopping by and TV screens showing their visits. While they offer some Italian classics, they still offer tourist things like hamburgers. The cocktails were very good an we loved the focaccia. It was very thin and they pour some oil on a plate for you. The pasta was all cooked nicely and full of flavor. The portions were large and fair for the price. It was more expensive than a lot of other places in the surrounding area though. This is also the only restaurant that specifically told us on both visits that we must tip in cash. This was a convenient spot close to our hotel and we only ended up here twice because it was pouring rain. read more

The rooms are modern, quiet and right near the Trevi Fountain, and close to many restaurants and shopping , all by walking! Hotel staff is great, and the breakfast is awesome. Hope to go there again. Oh my goodness! The service is ok, the ambiance is just fine. If you can't move on the stairs, there is even an electric seat that will help you. However, holy cow is this place expensive. I met a friend here and had 2 cappuccinos. One looked nice with a lovely heart design. The other looked like a complete after thought. Generally I wouldn't care. But!!! My friend treated me and later informed me that the bill was €32!!! She almost ordered another but wow, are we glad she didn't. These are standard sized cappuccinos as well, nothing special. When we walked through the park, we saw cappuccinos for around €2.5. Definitely not worth what was charged, fancy seat assistance to the bathroom or not. Ambiance outside was beautiful. Had dinner around 6pm and it was the perfect place for a great dinner . Especially after 24 hour day of traveling and having this convenient to hotel nearby was perfect, walking distance. I would agree that inside is a underrated elegance and imagine a different type of ambiance as well. As for the food , it was perfect the focaccia was a perfect starter and I had the lamb chops with a mint sauce. Very delicious! The first time I walked in they rejected me for being underdressed for after 6pm arrival. It literally had just turned 6 and the sun would be out 2 more hours. I left without complaint. This restaurant has people that are clearly classist and/or prejudice. The food is also extremely mediocre and came out lukewarm or cold. I am appalled at how we were treated for a restaurant where a majority of your sales are from tourists. READ YOUR CHECKS. My group was out all day and had no way back to our house in time to change for this restaurant, so we did come in underdressed (jeans, t shirt, polo, etc). 2 servers and I assume a manager started loudly arguing in front of our table TWICE. I asked our server to describe a dish for me and he blatantly ignored me, then he proceeded to essentially demand that my antipasto must come out after my first meal because it "takes too long" to make. Why would you have a dish as an antipasto if it takes too long to make prior to a main course. Sure. The server did not refill our water glasses at all despite doing it to the table diagonal from us, as well as clearly conversing with them. During our dinner, our server was standing there staring at us the entire time, which again he did not do to other tables. It was an uncomfortable amount of time and we did not experience this at any other restaurant. When I got my appetizer, he asked me FOUR times if I was done eating within 15 minutes. This is extremely rude. And lastly, he tried to charge me for a bottle of wine that I never ordered, as I only got 1 glass. I think this probably had to do with how we dressed, but overall we were all deeply uncomfortable the entire night. They also mentioned since we paid with card we can't tip, but we can leave cash. Funny - I'm sure you'd say that to a local. I would've gladly left extra if our service wasn't so awful. I'm sure with what I experienced, they'll read this review and laugh, but if it deters one reservation from showing up, then I did my job! My friends and I had reservations for dinner while on vacation in Rome and we had high expectations for Harry's When we arrived, we saw an outdoor table for two in the corner with a good view of the ruins. We asked for the table and we were told it is a table for four. It was definitely a table for two, and we pointed that out to them, and they insisted that we could not have a table. Rather, they put us at a table next to a group of 10 people who were out celebrating something. It was loud and hard to hear each other. We ordered drinks and appetizers, and they brought everything at once, not giving us any time to enjoy our drinks first. While sitting there, a couple showed up and were given the table we had asked for .... yep, 2 people, just like us (we are too "older" women and they were a young heterosexual couple. Infuriating!!! No one ever came to check on us, to ask if we wanted another drink , or how our food was. The place is beautiful, but I would never go back. Terrible rude service. read more

No relation to the terrible Harry's Bar in Venice. Yes, it's expensive yet this shouldn't be a surprise in the "high rent district" of Via Veneto. Complaining about prices here is like complaining about prices at high end bars and restaurants in Manhattan. Cheaper places can be found a few blocks away but they certainly don't provide the same experience. It's called an "American Bar" because they offer a full range of cocktails and spirits, and of course, an extensive wine list. (A "regular" bar in Rome serves coffee and pastries.) The food and service are consistently excellent. The pasta is fresh and top quality. In the afternoons, especially in summer, there are plenty of tourists among the customers. Nonetheless, you will also hear many of them speaking Italian. It's a fabulous spot for people watching: lots of interesting people walking along Via Veneto. At night, it seems to be mostly Romans: men in suits, women dressed in high fashion. Live music most evenings, typically a piano player and a vocalist. Eating at Harry's Bar was an experience that made my trip to Rome feel more complete. The little outside seating area in the front of the restaurant had a nice atmosphere in the evening but I sat inside to enjoy the incredible decor. It felt like I was in Rome in the 1960s. Everything about it felt elegant and old school. The staff was great and it was all so classy. I tried one of peach bellini's that they are known for. It was fresh and had good peach flavor. For dinner there were a few vegetarian options to choose from. I had black truffle oil pasta and I really enjoyed it. You can wear a fancy outfit here or dress more casual and you won't feel out of place either way. It didn't seem to get too crowded until later in the evening, so if you'd like to go when it's quieter and less crowded go earlier in the evening rather than later. Harry's bar was within walking distance of my hotel too, which was a plus. Also, don't be surprised if you are reminded/suggested to tip in cash by your waiter. Harry's Bar is quite unexpected, it feels as though you've been transported to a fancy piano bar in the 1950's where American expats would have frequented before spending the summer in Positano. The food and drinks are classic, albeit pricey, and the crowd today is heavy with American tourists. This scene wasn't at all what I was expecting to find in Rome, but it was quite a welcome change from the usual restaurants/bars in the area. This restaurant was at four stars until they lost me with their "tip begging" at the end. They know that Americans frequent this restaurant because it is across from the Marriott and it was a famous history with celebrities. When the waiter said "you can leave a tip with currency" when tipping is not protocol in Rome it really ticked me off. "Tip begging" dropped their review two stars because it was very tacky on how it was done. The food was very good but pricey. I had the veal with the shaved truffles and it was amazing. Quality of food is not an issue nor is the service. I do have an issue paying 12 Euros for a glass of normal wine. I thought the wine prices were definitely gouging a tourist. Did I research this restaurant before we visited? No...I was just jet lagged from travel and wanted to eat something close to the hotel. If you want a very touristy restaurant with some history then this is definitely your place to eat. read more

Harry's Bar brings back memories of yesteryear. It has been there for a long time and has that aura of a restaurant from the days of Frank Sinatra. The waiters are dressed very fine. The decor is also very fine. We had a most enjoyable dinner here. We started with the mixed bread and then enjoyed the salted sea bass. They brought that to the table encased in the sea salt and prepared that for plating before our eyes. The fish was very moist and flavorful. We also had grilled vegetables to accompany our fish. Famous for appearing in the 1960s movie "La Dolce Vita", the Good Life, this restaurant/bar has been frequented by celebrities and international crowds who seek a great night on the town. Photos of some of the stars who frequented Harry's Bar can be found in a curio cabinet next to the restrooms. We enjoyed some fabulous Foie Gras and a few glasses of Champagne while listening to the duo sing "touristy" lounge songs, but it was entertaining. Dark cherry walls, leather chairs, piano, singer and the love of my life sitting next to me set the mood for a great night. Fabulous! This place will set you back, but the service, entertainment and the food is worth it. Try it at least once! read more

I'm going out on a limb here as my experience dining at Harry's was far beyond what others have described. We didn't have a reservation, but the maître d' happily sat us on their covered terrace. The heat lamps were on a little too high, so we asked if we could change seats, but rather than do that, he just lowered the heat lamps to accommodate us. The waiter was a little slow getting to our table, but it was a busy night at a peak time (just about 8:00 PM) so it was understandable. Looking back, I wish I had tried the infamous Bellini, however, we simply went with their house red and white wines and both were satisfying. The bread basket that was delivered was also tasty and the waiter came 'round to pour some amazing olive oil onto our bread plates as well. To start, we decided to split the cacio e pepe (as we had read that it was a must try when in Italy and we had yet to taste the dish yet). For the first time having the cacio e pepe...this was an amazing way to kick off the experience. Harry's makes it with Trofie (short pasta), cheese, black pepper, fresh mint and black truffle...and they were kind enough to split it onto two plates. That's one thing that I loved...when we said we wanted to share a dish anywhere in Italy...there was no fuss, no surcharge for sharing, and no sideways glares. They simply split it for you in a very gracious manner. We enjoyed that! Anyway - 5 stars to the cacio e pepe at Harry's. Would highly recommend you try it. For our main dishes, JT decided to order the Eggplants "parmigiana style" with tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella. It was a beautiful presentation, but I think in his head, he was picturing the Americanized version of eggplant parmesan so he was slightly disappointed when it was much different (no breading, etc.) My main dish was the grilled fillet of beef with black truffle, sauteed potatoes and asparagus/carrots composition. I can't describe how awesome it was. The beef was perfectly cooked medium rare as I asked and the portion size was perfect. The flavors were all in balance and nothing overwhelmed the dish (as truffle sometimes has the propensity to do). We opted out of dessert as we had seen another couple receive a complimentary dish of Italian cookies at the end of their meal...so we knew that was coming and it would be more than enough. Oh it was. Those cookies were probably the best versions of Italian cookies that I've ever had. Soft, crumbly shortbread...loaded with flavor. Delizioso! The maître d' and the waiter who took care of us were both wonderful. At the end of the meal, our check was brought over (faster than many other restaurants we visited!) and we paid the bill with a credit card, but left cash for the tip (which we found is customary around Italy as the tips aren't expected...they don't have a line to leave tips on the credit card bill as we do in the US). The maître d' happily obliged when we asked for a picture - snapping quite a few to make sure we had a good shot. All in all, this was a perfectly wonderful experience for us. For as many tourists stop in, there are plenty of locals as well, making this a great (though very expensive) spot to dine when in Rome. read more

For me, this bar had the perfect location and hours. Since I was staying at the Marriott (right across the street) and Harry's stayed open until 2 am - after most of the local cafes were closed. Expect to always see a crowd here. The prices aren't cheap, but they are also not impossible. When you order a drink at a table, they provide an assortment of chips, olives and other things to snack on. It totally justifies the cost. If you sit inside there are also live performers since this is considered a piano bar. I also like that it has a traditional bar that you can sit at and chat with strangers if you'd like. There's lots of history here since its been open forever and has had its share of famous people through the doors. It certainly tends to attract lots of tourists and a generally older crowd given its location, but there are locals as well. The first night that I visited I'm certain that I was sitting next to an Italian pop star or actress as she was equipped with large security guards. read more

Being from NYC and a World Traveler, that's a FU to the clientele. Avoid this place... You are made to believe this is the Real Harry's Bar, its not...That goes to Cipriani in Venice where the Real bar is. Even in Venice, it's more reasonable for dining and drinks, the elegance and legacy are there. The food was average, the service sucks, in fact there is no service beyond ordering and the waiter dropping your dish, forget about them working the tables for your experience, forget getting ice in Southern Italy or Rome unless you ask 4 times. The Piano Bar and Singer were stale as well. This entire area where the hotels and American Embassy is way over priced for food and drink and over rated, its August of its 100 degrees during the day and 80 degrees at night. There a few snack bars and cafes on the side streets that are 10X better and 12X less expensive for food and drink in the area. {Note} Tonight I went to the best restaurant in Rome so far. For a real meal in a elegant area with the vibe locals, and proper extensive menu and the quality food you're probably looking for, take a 7 min Uber or Taxi to Caminetto (reserve or call in advance of arrival, we arrived at 10 PM and treated like gold. The Food and service was the best in Italy to date. The waiters hustle here to get you any thing on your request ask and they check in on you to make sure your having a great meal with the 100 other people dining with you. Kid friendly. There's really nothing special about the offering per se, you're more after the experience, or just to check the box. Been there, done that. The live music makes the difference, with an actual piano on premise. I think it's pointless to complain about the price, you should know what you're going to shell out. Still, the aperitivo pales in comparison to the best Milanese standards, or the more creative local options (Doppiozero anyone?).
