My wife and I were on a ten day trip to Italy and we wanted to slip in a place and grab a beer and some wi-fi. This place had both. I ordered a beer and they brought over a free appetizer with bread and tomatoes and olive oil. So good. As an aside, the olive oil in Italy is flippin' amazing! I had a second beer and we relaxed some more before another 10 miles of walking around. The service was awesome and a cool bar! read more

A cute and small ristorante in Trastevere. I wanted to eat authentic Italian, and pasta they served here definitely satisfied me. I had Bucatini with tomato sauce with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. It was cooked to al dente which I love, and the sauce was delicious. Our male server was very talkative in a pleasant way; I guess it's an Italian way to entertain guests, I'm not sure. It was funny enough to make me laugh. Everyone seemed so nice. The portion of food was perfect as well. I do not like a huge, American portion that I have to either take it to-go or waste. I was able to enjoy the meals here. Only thing I was questioning about was Caprese. I wasn't crazy about the presentation that was hideous, and the taste was meh. I had to take one star away from the perfection. However, I was happy with my pasta and wine. I will be back, and will try their desserts next time. This is not a live music place. I cam here all the way from city center by taxi to listen to some real performance of local musicians, but it was not. I'd like to give a warning to music lovers like me looking for a live music venue. read more

Bars in Italy are a different kinda vibe. It's tough to differentiate between them and restaurants/cafes cause well, there's usually not much of a difference between them. Ombre Rosse was one place on our trip though that stood out as a more Americanized bar vibe. Maybe it's because of the awesome music they played or the fact that the staff was super lively and fun? I can't quite place why we had such a good time here, but we definitely ended up ordering way more Aperol Spritzes than any other watering hole of our entire Italian excursion. They give you complimentary brushetta if you're drinking in the bar area, and it's hands down the best free food item I've ever had in my entire life! If you're in the Trestevere area, Ombre Rosse is absolutely a must stop. read more

Beautiful place in the tras tevere. So many cafes and restaurants and gelaterua place but this one has the best price for the "aperitivo". We got the aperol spritz and the tiramisu at the end. I think they got THE BEST Tiramisu in all the city that I've ever been for the last 20 days in the northern Italy. So make sure you get that when you're here!!. Divertimento! read more

Surprisingly authentic Trastevere hang-out Anna, the bartender last night, is perhaps the best bartender we've encountered... as in ever. Efficient, attentive, handling many customers, and kind and generous. We sat at the bar - so saw her at work. In fact, my first photos of her are blurred - that's how fast she moves. And she gave us a few extras - amaro and biscottini. Thank you, Anna! and the Pinsa we had (never heard of that - kind of a light flat bread) with mozzarella DOC, pomodorini (small tomatoes) & valeriana was perfect for us. We've been to Ombre Rosse many times in the past and always find it a bit of a haven from the hustle - and hustling - of Trastevere; yet it has a lively atmosphere. Often good music too. Love the vibe of this place! We came here to have a couple of drinks after a nice dinner and we were really impressed with the drinks. My niece had a piña colada and I was fortunate enough to steal a sip and it was honestly the best I've ever tasted. It wasn't overly sweet and didn't taste like a pre-made mixture (whether it was or not, I'm not sure). I had a mojito to drink which wasn't the best I've ever had but it also didn't disappoint--they definitely don't cheap out on the portions of alcohol here that's for sure. I also had a tiramisu which tasted amazing. It wasn't my favourite consistency (a bit on the watery side) but the taste was on point I'm loving the patio life in Rome and wish I could honestly stay here for another week. Worst Pinsa I ever had. Incredibly bland taste with ingredients missing and extremely cheap garniture. They cut one stupid grape tomato in half and apparently that counts as an ingredient. Wtf? 10 euros for that? This is the first time in 12 years that I didn't finish the meal of a place I ordered at. Very mediocre sitting with 0 legroom. Also lol at serving cold tap water in old Absolute Vodka bottles for 3.50 euro each. What a rip off. read more

I came to Ombre Rosse one weekday evening to dine and catch up with an old friend who was passing through Rome. We met in front of the restaurant, and were seated immediately. As we hadn't spoken face-to-face in several years, we wanted to start off leisurely with drinks, and then have some appetizers. We asked our waiter to bring the two courses out in the desired order. Strike 1: The appetizers arrived a full fifteen minutes ahead of our drinks... Strike 2: Our drinks. My friend ordered a whiskey sour, which she reported wasn't bad; it wasn't good either. I didn't fare as well - I ordered a tequila sunrise, and it was abominable! It was badly made, using horribly cheap, generic tequila. I had one sip, and immediately asked that it be sent back and replaced. My replacement drink never came... For dinner, I made out much better than my friend. I ordered the lasagna, and it was the undisputed highlight of our visit to Ombre Rosse; it was exceptional. Strike 3: My friend's carbonara was just barely edible; a very disappointing entrée. Everyone we interacted with spoke both Italian and English, which is always a plus for me. Bottom line: While I really enjoyed my lasagna, with as many good restaurants as there are in the Eternal City, Given the lackluster service and overall food quality, I can't recommend this place. read more

Love this place. After several pizza and pasta filled days I craved a salad. Ombre Rosse did not dissapoint. I had a salad with salmon, olives, tomatoes, corn, and feta cheese- very fresh and generous portion. All of their food looked delicious. My waitress, Anna, was super sweet and helpful. My wife and I walked to Trastevere from the Colosseum without any particular restaurant in mind (there are so many in Trastevere). After perusing the menus of many restaurants, we decided to eat at Ombre Rosse. What a pleasant surprise it was! The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. The staff was very helpful and welcoming so kudos to the management team and all the people who work there. Great bar right down the alley from the main square in the Trastevere. Loved the cocktails during happy hour, complimentary bruschetta they kept dropping at our table. Both servers accommodating to our son, who was so happy with his limonata and potato chips. Nice to be a little off the fray, but still lots of action to view from your seat. read more

Delicious! Good drinks and amazing food. We got the selection of cheeses and salamis and it was wonderful! Great music too! We just hung out and relaxed for an hour or two eating and sipping or drinks. At the end they have us some mini cups of limoncello which were a nice finishing touch. Ombre Rosse lies in the heart of what I'd like to call young Rome - the place to be for young Roman people during the weekend. The place is located in a fantastic area of old Rome and is easily accessible whether you're getting there by car (don't mind the traffic nor the parking issues though) or by other means of transportation. The prices are exceptionally reasonable and the atmosphere is unbeatable. I only have one "but" and it concerns the service - we went there on a Saturday night and from what I gathered, the entire place was served by two people - a man and a woman. One of them was highly unpleasant and unprofessional while the other one was just okay but nothing beyond that. The service was downright awful and this should seriously be noted down because it ain't fun to be treated like air when you're a paying customer. But aside from the fact that the service is awful, I really do recommend this place because of the localization, the broad menu as well as because of the fact that the atmosphere is awesome. The decor was great too, which just adds to the general atmosphere. read more

Met a friend at Ombre Rosse for drinks. While we did not eat, I did want to take a moment to call out the exceptional staff working the restaurant / café. They were absolutely packed when we showed up with our two kids -- instead of turning us away, they asked us to wait a moment and then came up with a seating arrangement that would work for us. I can imagine OR being brilliant in the summer, with a gorgeous patio and live band. We will have to come back next time we are in Rome. read more

We had an old fashioned, a Daiquiri, and an English Rose (sweet, complex) on the first day, all of which were perfect. I spent 2 or more hours sitting and talking at a comfortable volume, listening to chill music. Lorenzo was our bartender for most of our trip (but we also just met Igino, who is also a great bartender!!), and every drink he made us was exactly what we wanted. On our second day, we had the Manhattan, Lorenzo's version of the English Rose, and a Moscow Mule. Then a new drink with cranberry and almond, another Lorenzo English Rose (because my cousin tasted it and loved it), and another Old Fashioned. Igino also made us some amazing drinks based on what we liked about our other drinks, and made us feel so welcome. Not only are the bartenders, drinks, music, and atmosphere amazing here, but the people who come here and chat with you are also super chill and friendly. You can tell that people who come to this bar are familiar with this place and love it as much as we already do. As cool as some of the bars in this city are, this one is one you can feel at home in. Definitely stop by, because you won't regret it, and you'll probably find yourself coming back as many days as you're here.

You have to make a reservation, as this is a private club. How intriguing! The club opens at 9:00 PM and closes at 4:00 AM. So, we made a reservation for a Sunday evening. It is located down a dimly lit street off the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II - adding more to the intrigue. There is really no signage except on the door there is a brass plaque that says "Prof. Jerry Thomas." You ring the bell, the door is answered, you give your name and the password (Yes, there is a password to get in), and you are admitted to the club. There is a €5 per person annual membership fee. We were warmly greeted by Roberto and seated at a comfortable table. This speakeasy held about 25 people, with two bartenders mixing drinks. Euro and Roberto saw to our every need and were excellent! When my husband asked if they had rye whisky on the bar, Roberto suggested he go to the bar and look. They had probably 14 different bottles of rye, but none from Maryland. When he asked for a rye Manhattan, Roberto brought over a bottle of their "house" rye, which was made especially for them. After he mentioned that if his Manhattan was made using their house rye, the cost would be €40. My husband quickly declined and opted for a regular rye Manhattan for €15! I am not much of drinker, so they made me an Amaretto. Both were served on the rocks, except this time, each had one huge ice cube - we had never seen such large cubes before. We both thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Speakeasy and told Roberto we would be back again. It was such an interesting, fun and enjoyable concept.
