We're staying down the street from Doveralu, saw that they were packed inside and out on our way to the Vatican. Decided to stop by for dinner on our way back, best decision we've made! The ambiance is romantic, the pasta is fresh, the pizza is light and crispy, the bruschette is outstanding and our server Fahmi Elvi not only provided great service, he provided excellent recommendations on both wine and menu options! For my first meal in Rome, I decided to randomly walk into a seemingly popular place next to the street. It didn't disappoint me. I ordered a salad, a salmon main course, and a soft drink -- everything was delicious. I loved my dining experience there, and not to mention the waiter is friendly, welcoming, and humorous. Perhaps my expectations were too high - but I don't think so. This is Italy for crying out loud! My pizza was under cooked (soggy dough) and the flavor was just "ok". I did like the atmosphere. Stopped by Doveralu for a late night dinner. We noticed that there were several people seated outside and that they appeared to be enjoying their food. We inquired about the dinner menu and asked if they were still serving food since it was after 10:30pm. We were promptly seated and reassured that the kitchen was still open. We each ordered our beverages and then our orders. I asked for the ravioli, but was told that it had run or earlier. I looked around and saw two other tables having pizza and took the hint. We went with a pizza too. It was mediocre at best, but it beat the hotel food by a long shot. My husband loves his drink and raved about how flavorful it tasted. Doveralu is a good spot for drinks. Doveralu restaurant was just across the street and down a block from the Hotel Artemide where we were staying. It was a wet and rainy night so didn't want to stray too far so opted for this place. I ate here my first night in Rome. Not a fan. I ordered a delicious sounding salad, had 1 bite and sent it back. All the ingredients were obviously old and or from cans, olives, tuna, eggs and artichoke hearts. They were also few and far between. Basically a bowl of lettuce with gross old toppings.
