I'm doing this review well after I visited Rome. This was the first place we tried when in Rome. Really good vibes and music playing. Seemed trendy almost familiar. Really good service. Eating at a place called Sloppy is not what I'd consider a sure thing but we enjoyed our meal! They happily moved a heater over by our table since it was close to freezing and we were freezing ourselves! Sarah provided very professional and friendly service with no issues whatsoever. Since it was early, they offered free prosecco to entice us inside and we were happy to imbibe. For appetizer, we had a wonderful bresaola plate with arugula and both olive oil and balsamic vinegar to complement the tastes. Bresaola is an amazing preserved beef from northern Italy. If you haven't had a chance to try it, I'd highly recommend it! For our mains, we enjoyed carbonara and a rigatoni dish with porcini mushrooms and sausage. Both were perfected prepared and the mushroom dish was the most flavorful. I can't eat much but they had no issue packing most of my dish to go. It's nice they didn't mind me getting the meal to go as years ago, this was not really accepted practice in Italy. For me, it's a medical necessity as my capacity to eat is quite small. While nothing was sloppy about our meal, we simply enjoyed it! read more

Nice spot in campo de fiori to grab dinner and people watch. The people here are persistent when trying to attract you to eat here, but all of the restaurants in this area do this as you walk by, and I found them to be a little less intrusive and they offered a free glass of prosecco (a small one) and also a free shot with a purchased drink. For appetizers, we tried the bruschetta and the calamari. Calamari was tasty but I would rather mine a little crispier, not as soft. The bruschetta was just like your typical bruschetta, nothing to write home about. I had a shrimp and pesto pasta which was very delicious. The pasta was very fresh and the pesto was awesome, definitely tasted homemade. I'm still getting used to ordering shrimp in Europe and getting a huge prawn with head and eyes still attached, so this wasn't my favorite part of the meal, but I managed to get some tasty shrimp meat out of it. The service was good and the waiters checked in with us often and made small talk and jokes which was nice. Some of the waiters even took one of the free shots with us and chatted with us before we left. Prices were very reasonable and we paid about 30 each, for entree, appetizer, and drink. We visited Sloppy's twice on our recent trip to Rome. Basically we were starving and the resturant is located in a square with a bunch of other resturants. Each establishment is fighting for your business and you can't look at a menu without being hassled and given a deal. Also note that especially in this area the discount will change from customer to customer. ((Example we were offered free wine due to our age and a group of teenagers were offered 10% off.)) Sloppy's has a happy hour with beer and cocktails for $6 with a free appetizer. The appetizers were chips and tomato's on a toasted slice of bread. It wasn't great and I would pass on happy hour unless you're getting beer because the glasses are huge. The mai Thai taste nothing as it should, more like a lime aid with a bunch of crystal sugar on the bottom. The margarita was basically just juice. The pasta is typical Roman style, aka aldente. We had a spaghetti with chili's and a fettuccine. Both dishes were good and filling. We also tried the margarita pizza, hard to screw up and they got it right. We tried two appetizers and weren't impressed. The fried mozzarella was very boring and lacked flavor and the fried rice balls were bland as well. Over all the service is good and the food (minus the drinks and appetizers) was good as well. We have moved on to bigger and better resturants but this is a good start to a trip read more

HONEST REVIEW - LACKLUSTER FOOD, POOR SERVICE We decided to sit down as this restaurant before looking at reviews. Orders were taken promptly. Received a terrible pour of beer, see picture. We were told it was happy hour, however, most of the staff didn't know what that meant. We had to ask our waitress multiple times, and each time she looked in the other direction or tended to other customers. My wife ordered nachos, see picture. They tasted as blase as the photo indicates. In the end, they did not even honor the happy hour special that was advertised. Can not more highly recommend Sloppys if your dining in Rome. The food was excellent. My wife had the lasagna and it may have been the best restaurant lasagna we've ever had. I order the rib eye steak and it was amazing. Italian food and steak, come on this place was a dream. But what made the place extra special was the service. From the owner to the waiter to our bus boy, all went above and beyond to show us a great time. We even asked if we could take a picture with them at the end of the evening to remember this place after our vacation. Great food, wonderful friendly service and a super fun atmosphere, you couldn't ask for a better place. read more

If you are looking for fine dining, pick another option. But my group had the best experience of any restaurant we've been to in our lives. The service was amazing. They were playing loud American dance/pop songs. the servers were singing and dancing around as they were taking orders and serving food, my group would cheer and sing with them. We told our server it was my father's birthday and they said we would get free tiramisu at midnight. Our waiter and other waiters actually paid for three rounds of shots for all ten people at our table. We even spilled one and she poured another and brought it out no questions asked. We thought it would be a great night to dine outside, purposefully came back to the area we walked past earlier in the day and were seriously disappointed. We ordered a round of beers and put in our order of two burgers. Should be simple right? We finish our beers, no food yet but we're people watching so it's ok. We order a second drink and receive that. It's been close to an hour, no burgers yet. It starts to get dark and chilly. They wheel out a space heater that doesn't turn on, they remove the propane tank and proceed to not bring a new tank or space heater. An hour 15 min pass, starting to get seriously hungry. No word whatsoever from our server on when our burgers will be out. 1 1/2 hours go by and tables that sat down well after our second beers start to get their food. We flag down a different server because ours is no where to be found and tell them we haven't received our food and want to pay for our drinks and leave. They came back with the check and said there was a mistake, our food wasn't put in....unacceptable. Don't waste your time. read more

I went here a few years ago when I was in Rome, and went recently again, and had a blast just like last time. Cheap drinks and nice bartenders with a lively crowd. The one downside is that there is no Metro station anywhere near campo. Cab (or Vespa) it up and head on down! read more

Poppin on a Monday night. A lot of Americans, but still. Located in Campo Dei Fiori, expect to wait a little while for you drinks. Not at the fault of the servers, but because of the frat party going on. My Moscow Bull(Red Bull, Vodka, Cucumber, some other shit) was absolutely delicious. Do not go here! As a general rule, if there are employees outside the restaurant trying to get you in, it's not a good sign. We got sweet talked into trying this place. Worst decision ever. There are so many delicious places to eat in Rome that eating here actually made me super angry. The food was AWFUL... like barely edible. We wanted just a little snack and tried the meat stuffed olives and nachos (and yes, I realize that getting nachos in Italy was already silly, but we had a craving). Also had a gin and tonic. The olives were ok. Not awful but definitely not up to par with other restaurants. Tasted like they were maybe frozen? The "nachos" were shocking!! It was chips with Velveeta fake cheese squares that were barely warm (def NOT melted) with a few strips of chicken, a few beans, and some odd tapenade. It was the worst ever. I would be so embarrassed to put that out if it were my restaurant. It also tasted as good as it looked... horriblè!! And listen, I get it, I wasn't expecting authentic Mexican nachos and I'm from southern CA so I've had plenty to compare with, but this was just... lazy. Absolutely no effort on their part. It was like a 5 year old made it. To top it off, the service was ridiculous, as others have commented. Had to ask 3 different waiters for the bill so we can get out of there. And they weren't that busy (which, in hindsight, was a definite red flag)! Plus the gin and tonic that was advertised as 8€ became 14€ because they gave Tanqueray. We couldn't even argue... we just paid the bill and ran. Do yourself a favor and don't go here. I feel so cheated that I wasted any stomach space on this place while there are so many places in Rome to get a great meal. Eat at a fast food pizza shop instead... you're much more likely to get amazing Italian food there (as we have surprisingly so many times). Be warned!! read more

Absolutely terrible service. By far the worse experience I had in Rome. The entire waitstaff spends their time out in the piazza trying to wrangle people in. We ended up there as their prices seemed the lowest, however it did not end up that way. Our waiter seemed disgusted that we were splitting some snacks and continued to try and "upsell" us every chance he got... felt like we were being pestered. After we said no for the final time we were nearly ignored the rest of the time we were there. It got worse once we received the food. We ordered a meat and olive plate for 13 Euro which consisted of 8 pieces of thin salami, a cup of "black olives" and a single artichoke heart. Worst value I encountered on my 2 week trip around Europe. The TIP OF THE ICEBERG was hit when we asked for the check. The waiter left and 10 minutes later we found him back in the piazza trying to wrangle more people into the restaurant. We seriously felt like they were just trying to make the place look full by keeping us there. I asked him again for the check and he took another 5 minutes to get it. And it was NOT busy. As a side note, we saw two other groups of people leave before they even ordered their food... its THAT BAD. read more
