I came here on a Friday afternoon in the summer to do some work and enjoy an iced tea. The interior is spacious and smartly decorated with a good variety of shared and more private spaces if you need a more isolated area. The music is generally at a pretty low volume - great for focusing. I had an unsweetened iced tea, and it was pleasant and refreshing. I intend to try the version with some lemonade in it next time, but the tea itself had good flavor and was steeped an appropriate amount. The staff was also helpful and quick, and my drink was made in under a minute. My one critique of the space is that while there are some shared spaces with outlets,. many of the more comfortable chairs aren't very near a power outlet. I would love to be able to do my work here on a regular basis, but if the right seat isn't available, my computer runs out of power and I simply have to leave. read more

This is a great coffeeshop for working-there's a large communal table, lots of smaller tables, plenty of outlets and free WiFi, however keep in mind they put a 3 hour limit on the WiFi per day once you connect your device. It is pretty quiet as it seems most customers were working/studying. The chai latte was very foamy and creamy, and a good level of sweetness. I like my chai lattes a little less spicy so it was perfect for my taste buds. The apple cider was good but nothing to write home about. I walked by here one day at night and my friends and I noticed a small mouse on one of the tables. We then saw another one on a chair not far away. Food was being stored in the fridge over night, and seeing the mice made me think of every other gross thing that could be going on in there. Sounds like they need to get a health check. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for the past few years, and this is my go-to coffee shop to do work in. Right in the heart of Washington Square and right off the Washington St. stop on the C Line. It's basically like all Caffe Neros: Decent coffee, okay, warmed-up food, the same interior look that all of them have. Staff here are always pleasant, and I always manage to find a seat even on weekends. The only drink I've tried and do not recommend is their matcha latte--it's very watered down! The main draw to come here is an air-conditioned or heated space, and for the coffee shop vibes--not necessarily the drinks or the food. Which is just fine with me! read more

Do not go here if you are a POC. I pull over and enter the shop. Long line but such is life. 2 guys working here. Slow, but it's moving. Let me be clear, these guys are not rushing in any way, but that's fine. Standing in line about 10 minutes when I finally get to the head of the line. The older guy (owner/manager maybe) walks away and I continue to stand there. When he finally completes what I assume are online orders, he goes right to the lady behind me and asks if she has been helped yet and proceeds to take her order. I walked out. This particular Caffe Nero location has quickly turned into my go-to study spot. The ambiance is nice, the music is perfect, and the service is wonderful. I have felt my productivity reach its peak during the hours that I've worked here. I recommend their prosciutto de parma sandwich. I have gotten a number of their drinks including the mocha frappe latte, vanilla latte, earl grey, and chai latte, all of which are wonderful. I also love the speed of their wifi. I do find the price of everything to be slightly expensive (almost $10 for a sandwich). The only other thing is that the place is very cold. Even on a hot summer day, I can feel the chill down to my bone after spending hours sitting here. I would highly recommend bringing a sweater (even if it's 90 degrees outside) - you will thank yourself later. read more

My SBUX app card ate another $25 dollars yesterday. My barista gave me a free drink despite the app saying that my card only had 2.30 on it. The gracious and kind manager told me that I should call into SBUX to recover the lost money. I didn't have the time to call into SBUX before my AM coffee run this morning. What did I do? Did I wait for it to be 8 am PST in the EST time zone? Nope, I am a coffee addict. Patience is not our virtue. I went to Nero and ordered an almond milk latte. While frustration and monetary loss got me in the door, the tasty latte and friendly staff will make me return. The décor is nice; there's a wall of books. I live in Washington Square and was ecstatic when this location opened up - the Starbucks down the street was getting crowded and literally no one would sit down in that Dunkin' Donuts next to it anyway. Sometimes it can get busy and finding a spot can be a bit of a struggle, but I always do enjoy the positive attitude of the staff and the overall ambiance of the place. I usually go either in the early morning or late afternoon before dinner on the weekends and usually find myself staying anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour reading a book while sipping on a cold brew. The noise level during those times, I find, is just right; it is neither as quiet as a library nor noticeably loud that it becomes distracting. Highly recommend this place for a good in-between place to relax. read more

Caffe Nero, the popular international Italian coffee chain, is the newest addition to Washington Square's already saturated coffee landscape--it will compete with Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and Cafe Fixe, all of which are within a few steps of Nero's storefront. Nonetheless, Caffe Nero may become my go to coffee joint in the area. This location, like other cafe Nero locations around the city, is extremely cozy, and features floating bookshelves, spacious arm chairs, and plenty of tables and outlets. You're time there will be up before you're ever served. Their business model is such nonsense - the owner wants to replicate Italian coffeehouses... meaning the ones where people stand and drink their beverage at the counter? Where they pay when they've finished, instead of standing there with no beverage in hand waiting to pay when you could be sitting down? Where the menu is super short so there's no waiting for food? Where you work with one person from start to finish because there's only one person working there? And most of all, where the coffee is actually good once it gets to you? Well Cafe Nero is none of those things! This is a place where you stand in line eternally so that a very slow, easily confused staff member can give you the wrong food twice and charge you the wrong thing three times. I love this Caffe Nero location. My friend and I come to the area every Sunday to study for law school, but usually end up down the street at Starbucks. Had I realized this CN was so charming, we would have been frequenting here! The staff is SO nice. They were talkative, provided great recommendations to get me through my long day of work and studying ahead, and checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed as we held back tears while reading our textbooks. I decided to check out this new coffee shop tonight to get some work done. But one of my issues with the place is that they were BLASTING music. I love all kinds of music but when I was trying to concentrate, it was difficult. It seemed odd for a coffee shop. Also, the salads, at least the chicken caesar salad I got, was a waste of money. I wish I had known it was a boxed salad with packaged dressing before paying an overpriced $8 for it. Some of the lettuce leaves were brown! Baristas were super friendly, so that's a plus. Love the location and the availability of seating. Food is overpriced but I can deal. Major complaint is that it is always FREEZING in there. Even in the summer, you'll be cold and shivering if you don't have a jacket and long pants. A pretty chilled out cafe. The first cafe I visited in Boston. I liked the music they played along with the fragrance of coffee filling the entire cafe. I didn't want to try anything new so, I took a Latte and it was good. The crowd was very good on a regular cold Saturday morning at around 9:30. A lot of people were reading/studying/working on something on their own. Not a lot of empty tables but as everyone shared tables, so finding a space wouldn't be an issue. Free WiFi was pretty good. I really wanted to like this place, but I'm sorry to say that I left disappointed. Atmosphere is good, but there are way too many laptop users camped out. I want to be able to order a drink and sit down to enjoy it, but can't do that when 90% of the seats are filled with a laptop user and their empty cup. I understand that different cafés target different clientele so maybe I'm just not the guy they're looking for which is of course totally fine. I ordered a double espresso and a chai latte. The espresso was pretty good, but the chai was room temperature and really foamy.
