Nicest people. Delicious hot and iced coffee. Great place to study for a couple of hours. Coffee bean quality is highest in town, imo.

Was a bit confused when I entered on where to order (my fault I didn't read the sign). Friendly and fast service! I ordered a black coffee of the day, really good flavor and $1.75 for a medium. It beats Starbucks prices and the drip coffee was just as good. This place has a loyal fan base, the barista knew the drink orders by heart for both the person in front if me and behind. I'm really pleased with this Caffe Luce! It's definitely an improvement on It's a Grind's self-serve coffee! Their Kenyan and Ethiopian coffees are pretty good. Admittedly, the coffees are less flavorful than those I've had at Cartel, but Caffe Luce is less expensive, too. Didn't try their pastries, but looking at them, they seem to leave something to be desired. The layout here is nice! The tables give lots of space for working, and the photos from around town are great! Perhaps my favorite thing about this Caffe Luce is that it isn't the one on University and crazy packed with students! I hope this place stays relatively quiet once the semester starts! My only pet peeve is the dirty dish bin that they let sit out. Definitely not not the most appealing thing to look at! read more

Not a fan. It's a very basic coffee shop with mediocre service. The baristas didn't smile and the pastries were cold and going stale. There is space to get work done and a parking lot, with TJs just around the corner, but I'd rather go to Cartel for the coffee or anywhere else for better service. read more

My all time favorite Tucson coffee shop! The staff is friendly, but not overly talkative (which I appreciate early in the morning). My favorite thing is the coffee is consistently fantastic (a problem I've had at other local places....burnt or weak coffee is the saddest thing). The Azteca Mocha is my personally favorite, whether iced or hot. The lattes and chai teas are also a solid choice. The pastries can be hit or miss at times since they changed vendors awhile back, but are usually decent. The atmosphere is quiet and low key, and decorated with art from local artists (a practice I adore). The shop has always been clean and tidy, another plus in my mind. I simply love this place, and am happy it's on my way to work! read more

At last! A satisfying coffee option in the neighborhood. I actually tend to avoid Caffe Luce's campus location because it is usually noisy, overcrowded, and full of my students and colleagues. However, the new Campbell Ave. location is a pleasant surprise. Pros: The advantage that Caffe Luce has over other area coffee houses (incl. Starbucks, Cartel, Raging Sage, and Coffee X-Change) is that it has both good coffee (with a wide selection of specialty drinks) and a location sizable enough so that patrons can sit comfortably. A good coffee shop should also be fairly quiet, and this is far quieter than the other area stores. Music is played at a reasonable volume, and chatter on both sides of the counter stays at a minimum. I hope that aspect doesn't change as more people discover the place. Cons: Some more comfy chairs would be a welcome addition. Most of the clientele at the coffee house seem to be "singles," and it's a pet peeve when I have to take up a whole table for myself. The bar area is nice, but small. More one-person seating may be called for. Also, on the price point, Luce seems a bit more expensive for specialty drinks than some of the neighborhood places. I guess you pay for the quality... and for having a nice venue in which to enjoy the drink! read more

Really happy Caffe Luce took over this space that once housed an "It's a Grind" which was awful. They opened this morning and brought over employees from the original location who know what they are doing. Sadly, the timing it a little bad in that construction is beginning on the river path, which will make it difficult for walkers and bikers to access the place from the path. Should be finished up in a few months. We are super glad they moved up to Campbell and Limberlost. Shopping at Trader Joe's just got that much better. read more

I asked for the best thing off the menu, having never been there. The barista was very nice, and made me an aztec something. It was good. But it was WAYYYYYY sweet. A bit like drinking a cinnamon roll. It was really good, just not my "cup of coffee" so to speak. I came back again and got a white mocha latte instead. This one was good as well, but also a little on the overly sweet side for me personally. I had left already with the drink without trying it (my mistake) so i didn't think to ask if they could just tone down the sweetness for me. read more

Currently sitting at the Caffé Lucé and it's awesome. The only thing I could negatively say about this beautiful place is the food selection was low. But the coffee was AMAZING I had the Aztec Mocha and my uncle had the Hot Chocolate and said it was yummy! Great staff as well, very kind and friendly. Perfect atmosphere for quit work inside. We've been on a coffee shop tour, so to speak, and tried this place this weekend. We heard from friends that it was comparable to Cartel Coffee Lab. Like Cartel, the staff did not warmly welcome us upon entering. Instead solemn silence. (What's with that? Would it kill you to even say "hello"?) We ordered a hot white chocolate mocha and an iced Azteca Mocha. Sadly, BOTH tasted..."watery". The drinks lacked the strength that Cartel seems to get so right. Still, this place is a step up from Starbucks. Not sure we will frequent this place like the others we've tried, but may go back to give it one more shot. read more

Adorable coffee shop that is open, cozy and not pretentious. I ordered a small cappuccino here and it was delicious, not to mention it was topped with delicate latte art, which shows they care! I was impressed by their coffee menu- they sell a number of varietals and have a full espresso menu. It can be hard to find a coffee shop that pairs cozy and impressive menu, but they succeeded! One of the best locally owned coffee shops in Tucson!! They also have a location downtown. My wife and my favorite drink is the 'Azteca Mocha' (served hot or cold) and we LOVE their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe whole beans too. Some of the freshest and most delicious roasted beans you can buy and immediately take home to grind and brew. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. A hidden gem! I think most people pass this coffee shop daily on their commutes and don't even notice it tucked behind the Trader Joe's...which is too bad as it is AWESOME - for both quickly picking up a latte on the run (there is parking directly in front, so you are in/out in less than 5 minutes), sitting to get work done, or meeting friends. The coffee is delicious and the atmosphere is very friendly....and unlike the Luce by campus, they maintain their store hours and don't close early on a whim! The baristas are kind and welcoming, and answered all of my questions concerning ingredients with patience and grace. (I have a wicked peanut allergy). The building is immaculately clean, and the windows face the mountains for a beautiful view. Great latte. Great place! read more

This place is pretty good.. located on campbell/river in the trader joes plaza. I come here often to get work done.. just because their coffee is good, and its a 2 min drive from my house. The only two complaints that I have for Caffe Luce at this location is the lack of fresh pastries. There is never anything to snack on here! Each time I have come here their pastry offerings have always ranged from slim to none. The second complaint I have is how freaking crowded this place can get sometimes.. thankfully everyone is so nice and as long as you ask politely I've always been able to share a table with a fellow customer. read more

So I went in this morning to buy a bagel with cream cheese as I'm putting the cream cheese on there's only enough for one side of the bagel, so I tell my cashier this and she'se says no that's the correct serving, but I tell her it's only enough for one side of the bagel she says no that's the correct serving size its $0.50 more for an extra one I told her how can you sell a bagel and one package of cream cheese that barely covers one side and she tells me you have to pay an extra $0.50 for the other packet of cream cheese. Are you kidding me? I told her I won't be back and she burnt the bagel so I have burnt garlic in my mouth wonderful happy start to the day. read more

Here's how it goes at Cafe Luce: 1. Cups of coffee aren't close to full. 2. Refills are a whopping 10 or 15 cents off the original price. 3. You'll be charged 50 cents for one squirt of chocolate added to your coffee. (about 3 cents worth) 4. And the topper: I asked for an iced coffee - hold the ice - and got charged 50 cents extra for not including the ice. I believe the Jewish word to describe the manager, Michael's, business practices is "shyster." His grumpy personality fits right in, too. So, if you're looking for quality, even reasonable, customer service, I strongly suggest you go elsewhere. read more

This place is growing on me. It's nice when coming off a ride or run on the Rillito Trail. I'm a regular at the Starbucks up the street but the coffee here is every bit as good and I would much rather support a local business. Wow. Literally the best cappuccino I have ever had. Or at least the best I remember having, and I worked in the industry for 10 years (including professional training and work as a coffee taster). The foam was perfectly steamed -- dense, silky and sweet. Only the best know how to steam foam to its sweetness for a cappuccino. I am not exaggerating when I say it was a delight from start to finish. The coffee itself was exceptional as well. Clearly roasted by a master for espresso-based drinks. I had heard good reviews about this place, but my expectations were exceeded. The women working this morning were friendly and fun to interact with, as well. I met a friend there for a cup of coffee this morning and the space was inviting. We both enjoyed looking at the local art (at very affordable prices), and the clientele were friendly. It was not crowded, but most of the seating had just one person at the table, as other reviewers have mentioned, which might have been potentially awkward with so many open seats but no real socially acceptable way of using them (haha). I personally enjoyed all the dogs (we sat outside) walking by! Some on their way to the vet down the way from the shop, others who came with their owners for coffee. All in all, a wonderful experience from start to finish, and I will definitely be going back, even though it's not really very convenient for me. read more

Iced azteca mocha was good for the first few sips but then was a bit too sweet for me. Otherwise it had excellent flavors. Smooth coffee + rich chocolate. It tasted nutty to me (as opposed to with spice) but overall I liked it. I will reorder it in the future especially since once the ice melted and diluted the drink a bit I thought it was very good. I also love this location because it's not too close to the university (less chance for being as crowded with awful parking) and has a decent atmosphere for studying. read more

You're entering a small coffee shop that's quiet for a reason (studying, meeting with a friend, enjoying your quiet peace of mind). Honestly I've never had the staff not welcome me once I've gotten closer to the counter. Yelling "welcome" to someone at the door is kind of an absurd suggestion to me. Teenage son and I love this place. He's quite the coffee snob, and worships their Latte above all others. I go for the iced coffee or an iced mocha, depending on my mood. I wrote my dissertation at the University location, and I was one of their first customers there. Needless to say, I'm as still in love with Caffe Luce as I was 5 or more years ago. Absolutely, hands-down, no-contest the BEST coffee I have ever put in my mouth, and I was a barista at a mom and pop for almost 10 years. The 4 stars says it - Yay! I'm a fan. I've only tried the straight up coffee as of yet, but I have been at different times of the day. I was happy to find that the coffee was just as hot and fresh in the afternoon as it was in the morning. The coffee is very good - good flavor, good brew strength. Another thing I noted is that is isn't so hot that I can't drink it for half an hour. It's, ahhh, just right. The baked goods are tasty. The staff is friendly. They had me at Cafe Azteca - it's a cup of comfort and deliciousness rolled into a hot cup of joe. I'll admit it's so good that I don't even look at the menu any more because I have my eye on the prize! There nothing like a Saturday morning Luce run before hitting Trader Joes that enhances your weekend endorphins. Their blended Green Tea Luce is reason enough for five stars!! I come here to park and run on the river and stop by before I go home about once a week. It's a perfect way to reward and motivate myself to wake up at 4:30. The last couple times I've been here John has helped me and I've never had a finer blended ice drink, I am impressed! Always friendly and a great place to go when I was waiting for my pet to have a treatment done at the vet a few doors down or finished a shopping trip to TJ's.
