I work in a doctor's office so we get free food from reps. The common thing is cafe amici's. They always bring a salad and the same pasta dishes. For consistency i can tell you the place is hit or miss. Pasta mushy and with the chicken caprese, some days its nice cubes and other days it looked like someone hacked the chicken breast in huge huge pieces. Keep in mind it is also owned by La Scala and Olios and a few other places. its a huge chain and the food is mediocore in all those places. My wife and I are weekly regulars here. Pizza, Pasta, Salads... you really can't go wrong! Their pizza is consistent, and when we dine-in, they have some delicious choices on the menu. Gotta like their pasta night. We love their Garlic Knots, drenched in butter and grated cheese (with plenty left for dipping). Insalata Amici is another favorite; field greens, walnuts, dried cranberries and gorgonzola. Not only is this salad delicious, this salad on a slice is outstanding! If you are looking for a way to murder your diet, walk in to Cafe Amici for Pasta night on either a Monday or Tuesday night. We live in Queens so trust me when I say it is worth the commute. For about $15, you get more bang for your buck. Their soft pillowy rolls are warm and to die for, and there's no way you can just have one. For pasta night, you receive an appetizer (soup or salad), a full sized huge entree that you can wrap up because you WILL have leftovers, (I usually get the Pasta Purses with cherry peppers (that is pasta stuffed with cheese) but I've also had the Farfalle with pink sauce, Pasta Fagioli, and the Tortellini al Pesto) a drink and a dessert (cheesecake or chocolate cake I believe). I have been a few times, and dinner has been consistently good. I've heard that the pizza is good too (the only place I know of with a GRANDPA slice). It is definitely worth trying out! read more

I came to this restaurant on a business trip because of a recommendation from a local. I'll have to say that I'll be back when I return to the area again. I was not expecting much when I arrived because the restaurant is in a strip mall, is really large, and has a chain-like ambience. But as soon as I sat down at the bar, I was welcomed by a lovely and warm bartender who made my whole meal alone such a pleasure. Soon, others at the bar were imitating her energy, and I had some great conversations while I enjoyed my dinner. It's a friendly and fun place. While the food is a bargain compared to other similar options -- especially on pasta night where I received easily 2-3 portions of pasta, wine, salad and dessert for $14.99 -- the quality of the food is not compromised by such a steal. I wasn't too much of a fan of the iceberg lettuce salad (charge me $15.99 and use real lettuce), but the pasta was absolutely amazing. I chose the pasta with sausage and shrimp in olive oil. And the garlic knots -- one of the most memorable food treats of 2015. I swore I would eat only one, and I ate 3. I couldn't help it. Went here yesterday on my way to the airport. I live in Dallas now and was in town visiting my sisters. I needed to get NY pizza before I left and I remembered always liking Cafe Amici. I was here a few years ago after the extension but I was still impressed. We got there at 11:30 am on a Wednesday and the about of food they had on display was amazing. Specialty pizzas, calzones, heroes, rolls, etc. I was in heaven!! I got two regular cheese slices because that's my favorite. But it's always a good experience, tasty food, and the garlic knots? don't even get me started on how delicious and buttery and garlicky they are. what else do you need to know..........oh...they make zeppolis, even to go, and will give you extra containers of powdered sugar for dusting. Caffe Amici is a staple for that Independence Plaza. Whether you have to wait for your kid to finish dance class, or waiting for your glasses to be done at the eye doctors next door, its always a decent place to eat while waiting... As soon as you sit down in the dining area they plant these garlic knots on the table with this buttery/garlic sauce drizzled on top of all of them then sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. They honestly are the best garlic knots I've ever tasted in my entire life. Any Garlic knot fanatics out there need to experience these knots. Tonight I had ordered the seafood tortellini special. It was seafood stuffed tortellini in a pink cream sauce with crushed red pepper with shrimp and scallops. A pretty hearty dish. The tortellini was cooked to perfection, the sauce was plentiful. The scallops were cooked well. It was all scrumptious. Not to mention being that it was a dinner special, it comes with a side of soup or salad. I went with there Italian wedding soup. The staff here always seem to be hustling around. You can actually catch them bumping into one another. It is nice to see some hustle in a establishment. The decor is tasteful. Very subtle yet still decorated nicely. You do seem to sit fairly close to others which is someone strange, but I honestly thing that is some Italian dinning thing. Overall experience was great. I've been here many times, probably about 50 times. Pizza is excellent. One if the best pizza's I've had. The food is also very good. When eating in the dining room, which they recently remodeled, you get bread or garlic knots at your table. Being fat, I love bread and this is a plus. The portions are large and I find the quality to be good. I especially like the chicken parm. The prices are a bit on the high side but they do have coupons in the local paper which is good for 15% off - not good on weekends or pizza. They also offer pasta night, I believe on Mondays and it's a very good deal. Salad, pasta entree and dessert for about $13.00. The lasagna is good as as are the baked ravioli and manicotti. Service is okay, it depends on how busy they are. I think they give better service to older people or families than younger couples, probably assuming the tip will be better. If my service is good, I am quite generous. Also, they should offer free refills. I noticed another review mentioned the cheap silverware. I noticed this and comment on it to my wife all the time. The forks bend quite easily. They should definitely invest in some better flatware. Overall, a good restaurant with very good food. read more

I have been to Caffe Amici on a few different occasions, and it doesn't really disappoint. There isn't any real privacy between neighboring tables, as they try and squeeze in as many as possible. It is very easy to hear what the tables around you are saying. It also happens to be VERY loud because the take out area is visible by the dining area. I personally liked the lay out of the Caffe Amici before the renovations. The pizza is hit or miss, but this time we were dining in. Friday night was very crowded, as expected, but we got a seat almost instantly. The bread is to die for. It is drowned in butter and cheese. I could see a whole meal of just that. I went with the Ziti and Meat Sauce. You better come hungry. The plate was giant. I couldn't finish the meal. It was tasty, the pasta was a little over cooked though, but good none the less. One of the most flavorless chicken francese I have ever had. The chicken was tough and rubbery and I did not taste any bit of lemon or white wine. Just watery buttery taste. Mondays/Tuesdays are a bargain - your meal comes with a glass of wine or beer, soup or salad, and desert. Portion sizes are HUGE so there's plenty to take home for a whole other meal. Amazing. The 5 Star Rating is well deserved as Cafe Amici catered our Christmas Eve, (as well as about 300+long island families). Requested the order for pick up at 3:30. Place was a zoo. Of course it was, the food is delicious! The staff was organized, helpful, transparent, and it was nice watching them working well together with their customers. Our order was checked, and ready to go at 3:40, I was impressed. I felt though, how good could the quality really be with the significance amount of orders going through the doors. Well, to mine, and our guests suprise, the food was phenomenal. I mean, as if they spent all day just cooking for 2 people. I've been coming here since it was a small pizzeria. We eat here at least 2 times a week. The expansion has brought it to a level of allowing families have a nice affair at a reasonable price. The food is always fresh and delicious. I don't remember ever having a bad meal. The service is friendly, responsive and accommodating. They start you off with 1 person bringing you garlic knots that are outstanding and olives in oil, another one filing your water glasses and finally the waiter coming to tell you about the specials, etc. The only negative thing I could say is that the place it's always crowded, but that is a left handed compliment, because they're that good. The food was pretty decent, although I ordered the red velvet cake and it was stale. Ordered a new piece: it was stale too. Things happen, I get that. Food was a little jitzy coming out too. We got our appetizers pretty quickly, but the tables next to us got their dinner much quicker than ours. When ours did come out, I got mine first, and they were "still working on" my girlfriends food, which then came right out. Shows me communication ain't what it should be. Love this place. Been going here since it was a small hole in the wall pizza place, now its expanded and renovated into the beautiful restaurant you see today. But make sure if you come around dinner time you're prepared to wait a little because this place gets very busy. After you are seated you receive probably the best garlic rolls around and I a little secret if you want olives just ask and they will bring them right out to you. All the wait staff is always great. The food is always fresh and delicious. The portions are great, most normal people bring home doggie bags and you can also throw in some of those amazing garlics rolls. The prices are very fair and if you come on pasta night it's an awesome deal. This is a great place to bring family, friends or a date. My boyfriend lives around the corner and I always request we come here for a sit down meal (we've had takeout too) because the service thus far has been unsurpassed. They rattle off specials like their mom makes them every night and they're always quick to fill my water, which I sincerely appreciate. The salads are ginormous enough for two meals, the soups are always fresh tasting and I think ONE time we thought the sauce could use more flavoring (basil), but the meat was cooked so well it hardly mattered. Went out with Italian in-laws for a big dinner and had a good time here. Our server, Vanessa, was great, taking care of the pre-schoolers right away so they didn't get antsy or grumpy. We ordered tons of appetizers including the baked clams, stuffed mushrooms, and calamari. They also brought garlic knots, olives in oil/vinegar, and garlic bread (loaf). After all of that, I could barely make a dent in my entree, a special that day called Pollo Picante (spicy chicken) which I took home and ate later. For desert, most of the family had cannoli, but I opted for the chocolate mousse which was very good. The kids had ice cream. Went for the Pasta Tuesday, they had a large selection, I had the penne broccoli with garlic and oil my husband had something with anchovies in it he finished his, mine will be lunch today. I honestly don't know why this place doesn't have hire reviews. This is my husband's and mine favorite Italian place (it helps we live 5 min away). We dine in often and the food is always delicious. I took away a star only because when we do do takeout, the portions are remarkably smaller, although still tasty!
