Amine was our favorite server in all of Rome! He was the most pleasant waiter, checking on us often, and not rushing us. Throughout our leisurely 2 hour lunch, Amine served us cappuccinos, Moscow mules, pear and walnut salad, salmon and arugula pizza, and a deliciously creamy tiramisu. Mija had a study abroad program in Rome, so I decided to join her at the tail end of her program. I also met the ITC (Italian Travel Companion) in Vegas, so it was also an excuse to see her. The reviews for the next four weeks are all about mio secondo viaggio in Italia (my second trip to Italy). CDM is in Trastevere, a cool neighborhood in Rome. Its across from Piazza di Santa Maria, that also has a fountain. The timing of my flight was too early to check into my airBNB, so we decided to hang out here for a couple of hours. CDM offers all day al fresco dining at reasonable prices. I ordered the salumi platter w/ a basket of bread. The quality of the meat was fantastic. You could really taste the difference b/t what we get here in the States in terms of spices & texture of the meats. All of meat was freshly carved and woke up my jet lagged taste buds. I washed this all down w/ a glass of local red wine. Regarding the ambiance, its al fresco and great for people watching. Get use to people smoking while eating outdoors in Italy, bc its part of the culture. Likewise, the service was friendly & warm. The staff spoke English, but appreciated that Io conosco alcune frasi e parole in Italiano (I know a few phrases and words in Italian). BTW, ITC forced me to speak in Italian the entire trip when speaking to her and other Italians. I could only speak English when mija was present, so I was pretty fluid by the end of the trip. CDM is a great place to enjoy a meal in the cobblestoned neighborhood of Trastevere. The quality of the food is high, and the ambiance & service are inviting. read more

Stopped there for quick coffee couple ofdaysago... I pass by this Caffè almost on a daily basis and decided to have coffee there today .. the location is good and was lucky to find a table available.. coffee was good but unfortunately water glasses and coffee cups have a weird nasty smell... would appreciate management paying attention to this issue... Great customer service and delicious coffee and pastries. They even have a small breakfast menu with eggs, pancakes ... probably intended for tourists who flock to the square (yup, me and my family!). It was nonetheless delicious and our waiter was so great. Loads of outdoor seating and a fantastic view into one of Rome's busy urban piazzas. read more

If you have just arrived from Fiumicino and are looking for breakfast, this is a good place to start. Having lived in the neighbourhood for 2 years, I personally think this is the best breakfast with a view. There is an excellent variety of coffees and freshly made baked goods. it is the local go-to spot. Prices change significantly if you choose the bar vs the table. Gelato is also made fresh daily on site. Good panini and salads especially the Caprese salad. The patio chairs/tables are set facing the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, so everyone has a beautiful view of the Piazza. There is usually a lot of street people and occasionally some loud drama going on around the central fountain. Romanian gypsies may bother you for change. The owner is a fan of Lazio the soccer team. However others who work in the bar (Fabio) support A.S. Roma. So be very carefully with what you say if you get on the subject of Serie A football. Fun facts**: Locals will tell you that Christianity was invented in the church's basement which was formerly an albergue, in the 3rd century. Scenes from Woody Allen's movie To Rome With Love was shot next door at Sabattini's. Woody would have coffee between shoots at Caffe Di Marzio. The building is owned by a duchess of the former Royal family of Italy. The fountain is the oldest in Rome. It was reformed by Bernini. If you've read this far then I should mention that one of the workers is named Maximo. If you ask to speak with his sister, the owner might give you 10% off. read more

Loved the location, great house wine however the food was terrible. I had the ravioli. When it was served I was shocked at the portion size as it was so small compared to other restaurants. The ravioli itself was okay, but the tomato daisy tastes exactly like Chef Boyardee. Not joking. My 16 year I'd daughter agreed. She had panini that was flavorless and in tasted old, not fresh ingredients. The service was okay. read more

Stopped here for drinks and gelato on the way to our B&B to get a better feel for Trastevere and was blown away. The service was good, the gelato was tasty, and the wine was wonderful (forgot the name but it was a Syrah from Lazio region). We sat outside overlooking the piazza which has a beautiful 1000 year old church and a very nice fountain. Want to feel like a local... hang here for the evening and feel like you've gone back in time. read more
