    Espresso with panna

The gentleman that helped us was very nice and helpful. We had an espresso with panna. First time trying it. It was amazing. The place felt very cozy and welcoming. Thank you. First time in Rome and will have a lasting memory

    get this!

I was just walking around in Testaccio, and I saw a bunch of people eating some cream pastry outside at 10 PM. It was well after dinner, and I was surprised that this place was still open and attracting business. The first time I passed by, I didn't think much of it. The second time, I decided to try it out. We went inside to find several pastries and donuts. I think you might have to pay first with the cashier, but we went straight to the pastries because they were so beautifully displayed behind the glass windows. It was kind of tough not being able to communicate because they don't speak much English. The maritozzo is better than I expected! The cream is so fresh. I got another one to eat the next morning!

On a trip to Rome I became obsessed with Maritozzi and I learned this bakery had the best Maritozzi in all of Roma. So I had to go. We took a bus and found the bakery. The pastry was fantastico. Light, soft sweet and delicious. Definitely the best in all of Rome.

Maritozzi are pastry treats characteristic of Roman cuisine. They are soft and delicious sweet rolls, similar to brioche, stuffed with whipped cream, served for breakfast throughout Rome. At Il Maritozzaro, they are served around the clock. This place is a tradition in Trastevere, open since 1960. It is not unusual to find large numbers of people enjoying maritozzi here late into the night.

Quaint, quick service, great pastries and espresso. Enjoyed a caffe latte and croissant with Nutella as well

    Absolutely amazing!

This place was a two min walk from my hotel. I decided to give it a shot and it was literally the best thing I ate that day. Their whipped crème filled buns are to die for!! I was so skeptical before trying it, but when I did it melted in my mouth. And the woman who works there was super patient with me since I couldn't speak Italian. Don't waste your time going to the many overpraised bakeries in the city center; go here instead.

Il Maritozzaro 01/15/2020: Maritozzi, Torta Caprese, Peche della Crema, Sfogliatelle, Laminated Pastry with Raisins

On an unassuming corner in Trastevere one finds Il Maritozzaro, and since 1960 this independently-owned Bar has dedicated itself to Rome's signature Pastry while maintaining nondescript hours that usually find the place open from 06h30 until past midnight every day but Monday. Not far from Stazione Trastevere, a no-frills appearance in a residential neighborhood assuring minimal tourist traffic, it is upon entry that Il Maritozzaro reveals itself as little more than 200 square meters, a lone table seeing most guests belly to the Bar downing Espresso shots before departing with a Pastry in their hand. Apparently hopping late-night, but also with a steady stream of traffic en route to work, most guests predictably select Il Maritozzaro's eponymous Pastry, the split-top Bun that was once the only sweet allowed during Lent nearly over-loaded with Cream just as it has been since the Middle ages. Moving beyond Maritozzi, its subtle sweetness seeing the substantial portion eat lighter than one might expect, those seeking something more sugary should consider a Peach-shaped Biscuit sandwiching Custard while an unlabeled asterisk with Raisins and glaze shows Il Maritozzaro to also perform well with laminated Pastry. Not about to forgo Sfogliatelle, tight layers shattering to the tooth before yielding citrusy Ricotta, a rounded Torta Caprese finished the morning with a slightly dry crumb but plenty of Cocoa suspended in the bittersweet matrix.

Take the advice of Conchita's review! You must have the pastry called the maritozzi! We came here while we were on vacation and saw her review and decided to give it a try! The old man who was working spoke almost no English but was happy that we made the effort to try and communicate with him in Italian. He was very sweet and insisted we both have a maritozzi. We were not disappointed! It's hard to describe but do yourself the favor and come by this little shop, you won't regret it!

We were surprised to learn that the restaurant did not actually open until 12:30, and found ourselves with fifteen minutes to kill. Luckily, Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria was right next door. We got seated immediately, a relief given both our timeframe and our slight fatigue after a long walk from Vatican City. We got a small table on the cute little patio, and service was prompt and friendly. We told our waiter about our lunch reservation, and he made sure we were able to leave on schedule. We ordered cappuccinos, which were €3 apiece and delicious, thick with foam. I don't drink coffee at home, but after this one, I enjoyed cappuccinos every day in Italy. So cheap and tasty. The café also offers a robust food menu, and seems like a great place to get a Roscioli meal if you can't land a reservation at the popular (and amazing) salumeria. I'd recommend Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria whether or not you're also eating at the restaurant.
