In an attempt to find a place to eat, we saw La Fenice up the street. Since Yelp isn't huge yet in Italy, it was harder to locate solid places to trust. We were hungry though and it seemed like a cute place so we went in.
The front is a bakery area which is apparently more of why people frequent it. We were seated away from the bakery and given a menu written on a paper placemat. That should've been our first clue that it wouldn't be spectacular. We were tied though so we ordered a bread basket, two dishes of pasta and a bottle of still water. In Italy, there's no tap water. It's either bottled tap or mineral water.
The bread was dry but there were also some pieces that resembled baked pita chips (which we enjoyed). The pasta was a bit salty. Granted my dish had anchovies but I tried it as it was recommended by the waiter. After we finished our entrees, we ordered what appeared to be a slice of an apple custard. Although beautiful, the apples tasted like they were from a can and it was definitely pricey for the quality.
Although the food was okay, it was the service that earns the stars. The waiter was attentive and tried to answer all of our questions. The restroom has a step pump for water as an FYI for those who are bewildered as to how to get the water running. read more
