It's really cute in their courtyard and they have much cleaner and nicer bathrooms than I've seen in most places in Oaxaca. I had a bagel yesterday for a mere 20 pesos and it was one of the best bagels I've ever had. And as a Jew from New York that's probably one of the highest compliments i can give. I also had a slice of chocolate cake which was excellent. A tad pricey at 75 pesos but worth every one. Wish they had more prepared foods outside of pizza and cold sandwiches as I'm sure they'd be excellent. Overall a fabulous place and I'll definitely be back.

We ordered a few items and were completely satisfied with everything! The food tasted extremely fresh! Just look at the vibrant colors that cover the plates. The Toast Con Pina was a delicious way to finish breakfast, which was served with a side of fruit. I'm not going to describe the food here, because the pictures I was able to capture say it all. The color, the texture, the layers, the aroma...as they say, you eat with your eyes. You can sneak a peek at the ladies in the back making the bread from scratch in an open-space area that's hard to ignore. You are captivated by every inch of this place. This hidden gem has a small but diverse menu of fresh and tasty dishes. It's mango season, so I jumped at the salad option. I could have had more jicama, but the salad is a nice change from the meat/tortilla/queso diet I've been on the last week and a half. Ceviche is a big deal in Oaxaca, and this is one of the best I've ever had. The coconut milk is an unexpected and refreshing twist that adds a depth of flavor to this delicious fish. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sauvignon blanc from Baja, California. This lovely Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday and breakfast only on Sunday and Monday. Check the Google Maps listing for hours, that seems to match what's posted at the restaurant. And if you're wondering what a Chepiche is, it's a Mexican herb apparently similar to cilantro often used to season meats. That explains the very herb/vegetable forward menu. Reminds me a lot of California farm-to-fork cuisine. Great Playlist of extremely romantic soft rock/folk music in Spanish. I've been Shazamming almost every song! I love the design; all vintage wood, the bar is really nice and all the local products, even the coffee mugs, spoons and napkin holders, are awesome, I also really like the birdcage lamps. The coffee is really good and is from a local coffee plantation. My favourite drink here is the water mango smoothie, so delicious on a warm day. There are loads of different desserts and they also offer salads, sandwiches and baguettes. My favourite dessert or just a nice snack with my coffee or smoothie are the oats cookies, the Nutella muffins are also delicious. (Actually everything is delicious because they are all freshly made with fresh ingredients, the cheese cakes, croissants and other sweet bread.)

We were given a menu for Kanu Cafe by the kind and patient server. I ordered a flat white coffee and atole avena, one of the traditional corn masa harina drinks. My partner got a chai latte. The drinks were pretty good, but I ended up adding a lot of sugar to my flat white since it was a bit more bitter than I was used to. The atole was yummy and reminded me of a more liquidy cream of wheat. It was delicious with brown sugar added and smelled divine. We got huevos divorciados and chilaquiles. Both my partner and I are cursed with the cilantro soap gene. I decided to roll with it, hoping the flavor wasn't very strong. Unfortunately, it was. That's totally not the fault of the restaurant, though. The tortillas were delicious and tasted very fresh! I loved the red and bean salsas. My partner was disappointed with his chilaquiles. He got them with bean salsa, but there were no beans-- just the black liquid left behind. The chicken on top was very gristley and he was pulling ligaments out of many bites.
