    Chicken Veracruz

Fantastic food - avocado salad, chicken Veracruz. Great service. Convenient to our hotel. Quiet.

    Birria plate is absolute perfection.

WOW!! Exceptional vibrant food that I couldn't get enough of. Chef Daniel knows flavor and technique. I will absolutely be back every single time I'm in town.

Our last meal in Oaxaca was breakfast at Casa Taviche before heading the airport to return to home. And I'm glad we saved it for our last day - because it was that good. The food was great. My husband had the trilogía de memelas, and I had the puré de la milpa con huevos. His memelas were very good (so simple but incredibly delicious - each included a cheese and a different salsa), but I absolutely loved my plate. The puree was smooth and delicious; the eggs were perfectly scrambled; and those roasted mushrooms and tomatoes? Delicious! I also had the atole of the day (an atole de leche), which was so satisfying! The service was great, and the restaurant is beautiful - modern, but charming, with great light. A delicious breakfast! I'd return for a meal here - any meal, any time!

After a full day of eating on a walking Oaxacking tour in Oaxaca last Saturday, 4 of us walked to this local restaurant not far from our hotel and somehow ate even more! They had great vegetarian options for our veggie friends. The luna de sangre mezcal drink was yummy and also felt healthy at the same time! We tried several things on the menu from soups, salads, mushrooms to beef flank. I'd love to go back again and try more things when I have a more space in my tummy to try more things.

Amazing food! We had the best meals of our stay in Oaxaca at this colourful restaurant. We liked it so much, that we came back for dinner the next evening. The menu changes every day and the food is delicious, and it's cooked and presented beautifully. We tried beef, chicken and pork and it was lovely. Be sure to leave room for the dessert! The juices are lovely too! The prices are super reasonable, and the service is friendly.

Loved Casa Taviche! Off the normal path for some tourists but worth it because of the quality of food, innovation of the dishes, new items all the time, and affordability. We stopped in the have some drinks and a chicken stuffed pepper. The chicken was stewed so it was super flavorful. Also Don't miss their lunch tasting special, at only 140 pesos it's a bargain.

    Porchetta Magic!!

Life is still worth living because of Casa Taviche and Mezcal! In Oaxaca for the second time and it seemed that every restaurant we called for dinner reservations was booked for about a week. Since we were tired from the treasure hunt of the day we decided to pick from the closest restaurants to our hotel. Casa Teviche was the most visually appealing and intriguing. I called for the possibility of reservations and they said we didn't need one and just to come on down! The short taxi drive left us in front of a side entrance that lead to a small but impressive bar. The place was overall pretty empty having to people by the bar, a single gal and a rowdy party of 5 at the corner table. All I kept thinking was that we had chosen unwisely. The decor is simple, refined but not over the top fancy or pretentious. The music was playing at a very tolerable volume and was greatly appreciated. Our enthusiastic waiter dropped by our table to immediately take our drink order and we had to try the seasonal organic fruit drinks and some mineral agua. I could tell from the quick menu glance that it would be extremely difficult to decide what to order for the main entree. So we put the entree on the back burner and decided to start with the mixed green salad. It was refreshing, beautifully presented and packed with Oaxacan flare. Next came one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in awhile: the Ahi Tuna with Chia seeds, the stuffed eggplant, or the Porchetta. I changed my mind several times before settling on the Porchetta. The Porchetta arrived like a shiny new car honking the horn making me focus all of my attention on the new kid on the table! This Porchetta was served on a bed of mashed potatoes and accompanied with a guava mole, sprinkled with some beautiful veggies and greens. The playfulness of the savory pork worked its magic as it was covered by the guava mole. An exciting celebration was taking place as bite after bite left me speechless! My wife and our friend ordered the fish of the day that turned out to be Mahi Mahi oh my! The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned and left us all saying: OH MY!!! We had to try one of the desserts to see if we could complete the trifecta of great dinners, so we ordered the Guanabana Mousse tart with a side of frozen lime gelato. This desert was what a Mexican Willy Wonka would have served at his restaurant, playful, popping with flavor and pushing us into the happy finish line. I stopped our great waiter Armando and asked a quite obvious question: Why isn't there a line outside this restaurant waiting to experience this magic? He graciously mentioned that it was the wrong time of the year/season and that there have been occasions where the restaurant was full. I told him that based on the experience we had there was no need to go anywhere else. So I cancelled our reservation at Los Danzantes and Criollo. So Monday, Tuesday and Thursday this guy will be the first in line at Casa Teviche because this Casa is definitely my Casa and I hope it becomes your casa as well!

Located near the center plaza (4 blocks away). The food was priced well for USA standards with good presentation. The establishment was nice. I had the ribs with mole which was very good. My wife had the chicken with mole chilito and was just ok. I would definitely return.

Casa Taviche is a hidden gem! It has michelin quality food for a very reasonable price (150-200 pesos per dish). We had the aguachile as an appetizer. It was fresh, spicy, and delicious. We also ate the fish of the day--it was cooked perfectly and surrounded by a tasty, bright sauce with chickpeas mixed in for additional texture. The banana bread dessert was outstanding--the moist bread had a vanilla cream frosting with a fresh sliced strawberry on top, and the scoop of passion fruit gelato that accompanied it was refreshing. The servers were very professional and warm. The decor was very stylish--pastel colored tables and lush plants hanging overhead. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. We plan on returning multiple times during our stay in Oaxaca this week to eat our way through the rest of the menu You won't regret it!

Mediocre service, they hardly let you know what the hours are. Lot of construction dust in the air.

We had a great meal here at affordable prices. It was quiet when we came in because it was raining but the service and food was great.

We were able to get a seat right away and the servers were super helpful. My friend wanted to try some mezcal and they let us taste a couple before choosing. We sat at the restaurant instead of the bar because it was cuter and I wanted food too. I tried two of their fruity mezcal drinks and loved both. I forget the names but one had watermelon, and the other had coconut and lime. I ordered cheese stuffed plantains with mole and this was soooo good. It was very filling too!

I thought it was funny when I got the menu and the food menu was only one page while the drink menu was five pages. The outside of the restaurant is blue-ish and the restaurant has multiple rooms. The ceviche del dia ($190 MXN) was a little sweet and not as tart or sour as others I've had. The tacos de sirloin ($170) were really good and were our group's favorite. The taquitos dorados de mole negro ($140) were okay; there was no meat just in case you were wondering. The aguachile rojo de camaron ($190) were good. The esquite con tuetano ($100) was not like a typical corn in a cup but it was closer to a corn soup. For drinks I had the pequeño gigante ($210) which was good. The paloma madura and paloma margarita were both favorites among our group. We went during the day and it wasn't that busy but supposedly it gets way busier and livelier at night.
