We came here twice. 1st one, we came for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Our waiter was Johnathan and he was awesome: friendly, attentive and very helpful. Food overall was good (not like the best food we ever had but we enjoyed the experience). For those who come specially because of the Michelin star, Michelin star restaurants have expensive food but it doesn't mean they have the best food. You're paying for the overall experience, not for amazing food. Anyway, we made another reservation to come back to the bar sitting area to get cocktails and desserts on an evening 2 days later and had a completely different experience. After the hostess sat us down, we waited for 20 minutes and no one came to give us water or ask us anything as if we were invisible. The waiters attended to other tables and left. Nobody would probably came to us if we didn't ask the hostess again why no one came to take our order. When the waiter came, he didn't even acknowledge it at all, no apologies, nothing as if waiting over 20 minutes for someone to come over is normal here. If it is indeed normal, we won't come back here, definitely doesn't meet the Michelin star standard. What a big disappointment. The only good thing about tonight is the chocolate lava cake was done right.
Amazing Oaxacan Michelin star restaurant. We had the tasting of different moles before we ordered our main dish. We loved the ambience and the friendly staff.
Los Danzantes is a reservation-only restaurant with an airy courtyard scented with incense. The restaurant earned a Michelin star and a Michelin green star for its featuring of Mexican ingredients and traditions in a sustainable way. The service was impeccable, and our server took the time to carefully explain the menu and dishes. We were started with a few complimentary bites: grasshoppers, tostadas of different colors (blue corn, beet, chilies), bread, salsas, and butter. Their signature appetizer was the Hoja Santa, a broad green leaf stuffed with quesillo and goat cheese, and served over a tomatillo sauce. We also had a salad of greens grown in their garden, topped with figs, pecans, cotija cheese, roasted cauliflower, and crispy barley, dressed with a hibiscus chamoy sauce. For our mains, the Pulpo Maya (Mayan octopus) was marinated in chintextle and served with roasted potatoes and tomatoes; and the Coconut Shrimp were huge shrimp coated in a coconut batter and served over a sticky sweet and sour sauce. Neither of these dishes was particularly outstanding, but an iconic, must-try dish was the tasting of 5 Danzantes moles: a yellow mole, chichilo (made of tortilla ashes), manchamanteles (vegan mole made of fruits), a red mole, and a 45-ingredient black mole. Each was completely distinct in flavor and consistency, and the array of sauces was paired with chochoyotas (plaintain dumplings) and a beautifully-presented rolled chicken breast stuffed with quesillo and pumpkin flowers. But my favorite dish of all was definitely the Shrimp Tlayuda, a huge flatbread built on a thin blue corn tortilla topped with beans, cheese, chopped shrimp cooked with a spicy marinade, and red cabbage, all topped with guacamole and served with a spicy sauce on the side. The thin, crispy flatbread paired perfectly with the creamy beans, the salty cheese, the juicy shrimp, the crunchy cabbage, the refreshing guacamole, and the spicy sauce! Overall, the dining experience here was truly outstanding, and the service, setting, and quality of food were exceptional.
THE BIG: One michelin star restaurant located in the heart of Oaxaca City. Beautiful interior with a pond and plants and ever growing stone walls that lead up into the night sky. Street parking available outside the no car zone. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Walking in, it is almost a brutalist type architecture with the big walls. Los Dazantes also has it's signature pond with a tree floating in the middle and recylced materials making up the bar area. We were seated next to the water, which gave a nice ambiant sound while we were eating. For drinks, we ordered the ginger cocktail and a mocktail. Both were delicious and we would've had more but we were coming from Selva which we had a couple of drinks before hand. For food, we got the oaxacan bugs, beet salad, mole danzantes, and lengua tacos. All of the dishes were great, however what stood out the most were the oaxacan bugs and the lengua tacos. The oaxacan bugs had a medly of stir fried critters and each had it's own flavor profile. My favorite was the big insect, it had a nuttiness that was addicting. The lengua tacos were super tender and I had so much fun eating them. The mole was great because they gave us five moles to try. Oaxaca is known as the land of the seven moles so we were grateful to try some of them. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Damage done here was around 2080 MXN for two drinks and four dishes. We had a great time and will definitely be coming back next time we are in Oaxaca.
Amazing service and food! Loved everything we ate here. Especially love their use of goat cheese! The ambiance was lovely and would love to go back.
Had a wonderful visit for my partner's 30th birthday. Los Danzantes was one of our must-visit spots after seeing it on the 2024 Michelin guide. Fabulous food, service, and ambiance. Due to its popularity, we were only able to find lunch reservations during our visit-- proved to be a blessing in disguise, as the daylight let us fully soak in the charming, historic setting and airy atmosphere. Staff were highly professional and attentive. We opted for a slew of appetizers rather than entrees: - YELLOWFIN TUNA CEVICHE (light & mouthwatering; though a bit too soggy for my taste) - ROASTED BEETS IN COFFEE (couldn't really taste the coffee; still a delicious salad) - ORGANIC TOMATOES SALAD (our alternative as their Bean Noodles were sold out. Intensely sweet!) - OAXACAN BUGS (an opportunity to sample different insect staples and delicacies. Quite salty but interesting flavor profile) Pleased we had a chance to try chef Alejandro Burgos' takes on traditional Oaxacan cuisine. Our meal ended with a complimentary ice cream~ Thanks for making our special occasion even better!
Los Danzantes lives up to its Michelin Star. The location is in a lively street and inside a building with Selva Bar just upstairs in case you arrive early to your reservation. The ambience is very earthy with trees and a large fountain inside. The staff are all superb from the hostess, servers and bussers. As for the servers, they get extra credit for how detailed and passionate they explain each dish. As for the dishes, the Mogo Mogo was my favorite of the entire menu. The crispness from the plantain fritter ball and the flavors from wedding stew sauce was pure delight. The Huauzontles and Quesillo Croquettes were also scrumptious and the Yellow Mole that they sat in was so good. Another star from the menu was the Chicken Breast Stuffed with Quesillo and Pumpkin Flower which came with 5 different types of mole. The Chicken Breast on its own was fantastic but added with the different types of mole it just elevated the dish. Of the 5, the red mole was my favorite. Other items our table ordered was the Yellowfin Tuna Ceviche and Mayan Octopus. Both were also very enjoyable. As for desserts, the Puff Pastry Empanada and Guava Cheesecake was so tasty and enjoyable. Perfect way to wrap up the delicious dinner. If drinks are also on the agenda, the cocktails served here are really delicious. There's a wide range to choose from to complement the dinner. So if youre visiting Oaxaca, be sure to look into Los Danzantes.
Excelente restaurante, atención al cliente excelente con bastantes recomendaciones muy variadas. Todos los platillos eran como una explosión de sabores perfectamente combinados. Nos encantó que cada platillo tenía su propio sabor y proceso. Totalmente recomendado.
The ambience feels like dining in a movie or a museum, or a movie where there's an even in a museum. Food and service were a standout.. convention to Plaza Central. Don't miss when in Oaxaca.
Had a beautiful time celebrating my husbands 35th birthday at Los Danzantes. The restaurant is located on the main street and it is absolutely beautiful. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you are transported to a serene modern location. Service is top notch and the menu is very affordable for a Michelin Star restaurant! Everything we ordered was fantastic. My top favorites was the lengua tacos, the Oaxacan bugs in guac and the mole tasting! My husband and I shared everything and were so full by the end of dinner. Los Danzantes also gave us a free dessert with a sparkler. Overall we had an incredible time and an incredible meal. Highly recommend booking a reservation!
Really cool indoor space with tall ceilings and limited seating. The service was great and the ambiance was amazing. For food we started with the mole tasting, which was a good way to try a bunch of moles, but I feel as though mole should be eaten with a protein and not on plátanos. The plátanos were delicious little sweet donuts but not the best vehicle in my opinion. My mezcal old fashioned unfortunately was so sweet / strong on the bitters that I didn't finish it. For entrees I tried the short rib plate with mole negro which was definitely my favorite dish of the night. The salsa and flavored butters that come with the meal are also delicious. Overall a little underwhelmed based on expectations when it comes to the food.
Classic Oaxaca cuisine made to the finest quality. Beef tongue tacos are a must Amazing service and attentiveness with great storytelling about the origins of the dishes Ambiance was great, shady in the afternoon with scent of sage

We went here for our last night in Oaxaca. We got the tuna tartar, mole sampler, and the octopus tlayuda. The mole dish was a little too sweet for our liking, but definitely interesting to taste the difference between them. Our server was the best! I'm so glad we were able to get a reservation last minute. read more
The food was very good and unique. I ordered two dishes both appetizers. The Mogo Mogo & Moles Danzantes de Oaxaca. Both had very good flavor but are more on the dessert side of flavors. The drinks I had were the poleo paloma & a margarita both tasted good. The presentation, service & atmosphere is top notch. read more
We went here because it has a michelin star. The service was excellent and the ambiance was lovely. We decided to go for lunch since it was easy to get a reservation. Hubby got the mackerel and the veggie terrine. He said the mackerel was the best he ever had. I got the tomato salad and the tacos. Both were very good. I can't find it five stars because i felt the menu was limited and my dishes did not blow me away. Had my expectations been lower i would give five stars. read more

Got lucky and got a last minute spot in the lounge for lunch. This was easily one of the best meals I've ever had. The Michelin star is well deserved. Appetizers: Lengua tacos y Oaxacan bugs with gaucamole. Tacos were incredible. Can't say much more other than, order them. The server recommended trying each bug on its own first, and then brought me some tortillas to make a taco with it. Highly recommend giving this a try! Main: Mayan Octopus. I didn't think this was possible but the octopus melted in my mouth. It had perfect texture and the flavor was The accompanying heirloom tomatoes were also perfect. So much flavor in such a small bite. Dessert: Goat cheese Flan with honey, lavender, candied pecans, and coco ganache. OMG. Perfect dessert for this meal, it was so delicious and light. read more
The coconut shrimp was to die for. I enjoyed a Viognier with it that was out of this world. My husband had the chicken with mole sauce and it was amazing as well. Our waiter was very good and allowed my husband to get extra mole sauce. I like the ambiance especially the ceiling. read more
This restaurant had some of the best food that we've ever had. Much better than Pujol in CDMX. It's totally deserving of It's Michelin star. The restaurant is in a large open patio like space with high ceiling and very well decorated. It immediately transports you to another world. Service was very good and efficient and the food was too die for. We had multiple appetizers, including the outstanding ceviche. My aguachile entree was excellent and the tortilla ice cream dessert was very good. I would highly recommend and definitely make a reservation, as this place is very popular. read more

Service could be better. It was online reservations via their website which needs your credit card on file in order to book. Checked in at the front and the vibes felt off. The lack of enthusiasm and service from the host to the waiters were lacking and didn't feel welcoming. After 10-15 min, I had to ask to place an order... For a restaurant that is meant to be a fine dining, the service was subpar. We ordered the yellowfin tuna tostadas, mole sampler and beef tongue tacos for apps. All three were spectacular. Faves are in this order: beef tongue tacos, tuna tostadas and the mole sampler. For entrees, we opted for the chicken stuffed with quesillo and the shrimp tlayuda. It was a bummer, both of these entrees were anticlimactic... Appetizers were way better than the entrees. The interior was cool, open air with high walls. It does get very dim, which is probably part of their experience. Though it was a little too dark for my taste. All in all, if you come, I'd probably stick to the apps. read more

This was our first dinner in Oaxaca, and they comfortably seated 9 of us in their minimal jungle-like restaurant. It was the perfect setting for a dark, romantic, and elevated meal. All the dishes were flavorful, but also not too rich; it seemed like an upscale interpretation of traditional Oaxacan meals. I especially loved the drinks here; they actually were tastier than the drinks in the upstairs bar called Selva. My favorites: Yellowfin Tuna Tostadas, Shrimp Aguachile with Chintextle, Mayan Octupus Dobladas read more

Dinner at Los Danzantes was one of our favorite meals in Oaxaca! If you're planning a trip, make a reservation NOW. This spot has 1 Michelin star, along with a green star for sustainability. Very well deserved! The vibe and service are absolutely on point, and the prices are very good if you're comparing to nice restaurants in the states. We started with a couple cocktails, which are made with their house-made mezcal. If you enjoy a cocktail, definitely get one here! Then came the mole tasting with plantain dumplings. This includes 5 of the 7 moles of Oaxaca and was a great way to taste them - eating a bit by itself and then with the plantain were different experiences, and both were stellar. Be warned: this dish is quite filling! But we ventured on to the blue corn gnocchi in a toasted tomato & mezcal sauce. We were unsure how the mezcal would taste in the sauce - it wasn't overwhelming at all, and kind of reminded us of a vodka sauce. SO good and very unique! We ended the meal with the guava cheesecake, which had a cookie bottom and mamey seed cream on top - plus some pretty gold leaf. This dessert made this guava fan very happy - it was creamy, crunchy, sweet, and a bit tart. We left very full - of amazing food and happy memories! read more

This place deserved the Michelin Stars awarded to them. Professional and punctual. Our server, Ricardo, explained every dish. Brought them out in a specific order to increase our pleasure. Every dish was the best version we'd ever had. Tuna ceviche, octopus taco to the goat cheese and lavender flan, as well as a few other dishes were amazing. Ambiance, especially at night was amazing. It's worth going to Oaxaca just to dine here. read more
If I could give this Michelin Guide star restaurant 7 stars I would! I think this was the best place we ate on our trip to Oaxaca last week. They were fully booked online but we walked by the restaurant an hour or two before they opened at 1pm last Monday and I asked if they could squeeze us in for lunch and they did, and I am so grateful! One of my favorite drinks is The Last Word and they had it on the menu with mezcal, so of course I had two. ;-) The 4 of us ate everything on our plates. They had great veggie options for our veg friends. The chocolate desert was absolutely incredible. It was easy walk from our hotel, the staff were friendly, and our waiter was the perfect amount of attentive that a wait person could be! They even had this unique smoke generator and fans to ward of mosquitos that did not smell like citronella which made the patio experience even more lovely. I highly recommend Los Danzantes! read more
If you need a place to escape the midday Mexican sun while simultaneously enjoying one of the best culinary experiences in Oaxaca, Los Danzantes is it. Happened to snag a late afternoon reservation day-of (after sleeping in from a late night) and I'm so glad we were able to go as it ended up being one of my top three meals while in Oaxaca. The space itself is stunning with an outdoor open air vibe and a little infinity pool-like installation. Everything is shaded so the temperature is perfect and you can even experience a light breeze. The service was great and the food was even better. We started with the mole with plantains and tostadas, followed by the shrimp and octopus and chorizo dishes. Everything was great and beautiful in presentation. My personal favorite was definitely the octopus + chorizo. We were only two people and it ended up being a lot of food, but they don't rush you out of the restaurant so you can feel free to sit in for a few hours and pick until your stomach's content. read more

We had one of the most amazing experiences at this restaurant for lunch. We tried to make a reservation for dinner, but they were completely booked so we went ahead and did second best, which was lunch right in the center of the restaurant... the atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous lotta recycled, materials, beautiful history in the building.. the food is over the top delicious five star all the way. The service was amazing , margaritas on point. And the fresh multi flavored corn tortillas with the chipotle, salsa and salsa Verde. With a little bit of a baguette and chocolate butter. Yum! I can't even express how delicious this meal was ... We will definitely be back. My recommendation is make a reservation. It's not a super large restaurant. . It is dog friendly. read more
I had a great dining experience at Los Danzantes. To begin, the restaurant is very nice. It's romantic and intimate making for a perfect date night or celebration. My waiter was Omar and he was very kind and helpful with recommendations. I decided to get the house recommendation red wine and it was really good. It was a local red wine from Baja. Like most restaurants in Oaxaca, the complimentary tostada and salsas were available. For my appetizer, I got the mole sampler with plantain dumplings. The plantain dumplings were delicious!! I liked 4/5 moles and recommend ordering this dish. All 5 moles are very different so take your time and savor them all. For my entree, I got the Mayan octopus which came with potatoes and tomatoes. It was well executed, the potatoes were nice and soft and perfectly salty, tomatoes were very fresh and the Octupus was cooked well. I wish my Octupus was cooked maybe 1-2 minutes more to give it a bit more char but still it was excellent. I didn't have room for dessert but my next visit I will be sure to do so. read more

Los Danzantes Amazing hidden gem in the middle of Oaxaca. Los Danzantes mission is to generate a social, sensory and emotional experience through a gastronomic encounter based on traditions and products of origin. Good, clean and fair product. Respect for the environment. Consciousness of responsible consumption. Their food is exceptional and should be recognized as one of the best in Oaxaca and even in all of Mexico. read more
I'm very sorry to say that this place did not live up to the hype or price tag. We had an enjoyable meal, but I was disappointed with service. The mole sampler was a novel choice, and each of the moles is wonderful in their own way. I personally thought that the plantain dumplings served with them have a sweetness that interferes with the experience of the mole. I would've much rather had tortillas or tortilla chips with a more neutral base. If I returned, I would ask for exactly that. We had the stuffed pepper and stuffed chicken, and both were good, probably one of the most perfectly cooked chicken breast I've ever had, wonderfully moist. Here is where I got frustrated. Our waiter had disappeared before the entrées were delivered - we did not see him to order additional drinks i(we would have) inquire of the entrees, or anything else. I had finished my entrée, and was looking around for him. A manager asked how my entrée was and I said good, and he smiled and kept walking leaving me sitting there with my empty plate. At this price point diners should never be sitting with empty plates wondering what should come next, so a failure of management as well. About the time I thought I was going to have to get up and go look for someone, our waiter reappears. I told him I thought he had gone home - he looked a little guilty, like he had been caught off the job, did not apologize, just took our plates, not offering additional drinks or dessert, returning with the check. We were celebrating a special birthday, so they did deliver a gratis cheesecake with guava cream, which was spectacular. So very appreciated that part. I heard other tables getting fantastic personalized service from engaged knowledgeable servers, so we were just unlucky in our assignment. I hope management reads this and realizes they need to keep a better eye on things to ensure consistent excellence in service. In a city filled with so many amazing food offerings, the only reason to make a reservation or wait would be an outstanding all around experience, and this fell short for me. read more

Another of our must tries when in Oaxaca and it did not disappoint. Made reservations for a Saturday as it gets really busy and glad we did. We heard a couple in front of our group have to wait :45 minutes to be seated. Now while it may be worth it it's just easier to reserve. The food here is amazing! Every dish we tried, also the drinks, were special and on point in flavor. The interior of the space while semi open, is very calm and welcoming. There was some light drizzle we felt during our visit but it didn't affect our experience. Would highly recommend for any type dinner, but ambience is more dressy than casual. The space isn't big but big enough. It's right in center of Oaxaca so it was easy access to us. Will be back for sure! read more

Possibly the best restaurant we went to in Oaxaca! And what a beautiful space too! There is no roof on the main dining area so you can look up at the stars, truly beautiful! The food was so tasty and we enjoyed the drinks as well. Everything was so carefully crafted, I can see why they are a Michelin star establishment. This place is not to be missed! We had the coconut shrimp, which we ended up getting 2 helpings of because it was so good, the goat cheese with green leaf (forgot what it's called, something holy), and a few other items that were all excellent. We also ordered dessert and let me tell you, I'm dreaming of that guava cheesecake! Spectacular, give me 14 of em right now! read more
