Wow! A hidden jewel. Breakfast is included for the Parador Alcala Hotel guests, but it's also open to the the public. The food is fresh and delicious. We thought the free included breakfast would be boring and tasteless like hotels in the States, but here it's the opposite. Fresh coffee, you choose between freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juice, in addition a plate of freshly sliced fruit, fresh bread or you can request tortillas instead, and then the main dish. I had chilaquiles and my husband had A La Mexicana (scrambled eggs on steroids).
We thought this place is so classy, dinner would be expensive. So on our first day we had our comida (dinner) at the Mercado (market). Food was good and prices reasonable, but the vendors walking around see us tourists and keep approaching us selling their wares. After a while, it got annoying the constant bombardment of vendors. We couldn't eat peacefully constantly saying, "no gracias".
So the next evening, we decided to have dinner at our hotel. We ordered traditional food similar to the dishes in the Mercado. What a surprise, not only was the food tastier (black mole to die for), the presentation nicer, the service excellent, no vendors, the cost was comparable to the prices in the mercado.
The food and service at El Patio are excellent. I would give it more stars if it were possible. The hotel was also great. We plan on returning to this hotel next year. read more
