We decided to pick up some pizza on a cold and rainy Saturday. We opted for a large pesto pizza and added chicken. The pizza was flavorful with a crispy crust. I really liked the pesto sauce as an alternative to red sauce. At $30 for the pizza, it was a bit pricy, but I'd still recommend this pizza. read more

Their staff is disorganized and rude. The quality of their food (except their amazing sauce) is going down hill.

Whoever the girl is that was working at 8pm on January 23rd should be fired. I actually feel bad for the owners that they have someone so rude working there. I wanted to place an order for a party and the girl was doing everything she could to not have to take the order. She was extremely rude, argumentative and it finally got to the point I said I will take my several hundred dollar order elsewhere. Don't water your time. I used to love this place and would order weekly. Now it's a complete shit show run by children who repeatedly make mistakes and do not care. Past 5 orders screwed up for now reason other than lack of attention or concern. I hope that attitude doesn't trickle down to food safety.... Too many other options, never again. read more

Cafe Vesuvius has replaced their full size sub rolls with these tiny long hot dog roll sized sub rolls. Less bread and less meat, but their prices are the same. I have been eating there for years. So the site is gone or down, now making it hard to order. The wait is a bit too long even on a slow day. I know pepperonis are greasy but I've gotta use paper towels here. The staff are always nice and pleasant though and that helps. I'd give it 45/46 out 100. read more

I'm giving them three stars because they're the only pizza place in Marblehead open on Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and New Years Day. But when it comes down to it, their pizza isn't all that great. If I have a choice it's Marblehead House of Pizza or Tony's. read more

Cafe Vesuvius is a spot offering a short list of fried appetizers, fresh organic salads, a nice list of sandwiches, and pizzas. You order at the counter and they'll bring you your food if you are dining in at one of a limited number of seats indoors, or out on their tiny patio. Drinks are self-serve in two refrigerated cases. Napkins are available by the trash bin. A single bathroom is available, but you have to ask for the key. The sweet potato fries $5.50 immediately caught my eye. Fortunately a friend was willing to share an order, because they were great! Thinner cut, they were nice and crispy and well salted. I then selected the Donna's specialty sandwich $7.50 (Breaded eggplant, roasted red peppers, grilled onions, portobello mushrooms, fresh mozzarella, pesto and mayo) on wheat, while my lunch buddy went with the Pegasus specialty sandwich $6.95 (our own home roasted turkey with pesto and fresh mozzarella) on foccacia (additional 50 cent fee), both grilled upon request, and we went halvsies. The sandwiches arrived each sliced in half with a rather large quartered pickle on the side. Plenty for lunch, especially with the order of sweet potato fries vying for stomach space. I preferred the juicy veggies, while my friend's vote went to the particularly generously pesto-ed turkey-wich. As for other dishes around the table, the Grilled Steak Tip $8.50 looked well filled, the avocado salad $7.50 was large and arrived with a full half a fresh avocado sliced in two and half a large thin pita, and the mixed grilled vegetarian pizza $17.95 (large) was touted as super toppings on a really good crispy/chewy crust. read more

We order from here weekly, even sometimes more than once. I don't care for the pizza but my s/o does which is why we go back. But over half of the time there is always an issue with the order. Oftentimes I call it in while he picks it up en route home from work. I repeat it several times to the teenager answering the phone--and I get it, I've been that teen working at a pizza shop--but it's still often wrong. Even when he picks it up and reconfirms with them. Mistakes happen, but it's annoying when it's repeated. We order out to avoid the hassle of cooking and having to go back out to get the food we originally ordered stinks. If this happened once, twice, or a handful of times even, I wouldn't be leaving this review. But it's been a lot. And we've lived here for 5 years. read more

Absolutely the best place to get great food and even better service on the North Shore! The staff are so friendly and fun, they go above and beyond to make your experience the best experience possible. Being a primarily salad eater can be challenging, but not here! They have the best variety of greens, spinach, mixed greens etc, never mind the widest variety of cheeses and proteins. Then there is the mouth watering pizza, 5 star with no question! Good pizza, but the garlic they use taste like Chinese garlic. California has some of the best garlic in the world, Italian chefs look for it when they visit the US. If Vesuvius isn't using California garlic, they should be. read more

Just keeps getting worse by the day. My wife convinced me to try it again and boy it just blows. Here is their Caesar salad, chopped iceberg lettuce with shredded carrots on top with NOTHING else on it. Simply gross...I'm done for good. read more

Not only are the pizzas over priced, the staff is rude. I had the worst experience just trying to order a pizza at 8:30 at night, after I placed my order I was informed of the hour wait. I then canceled the order thinking 9:30 maybe a little late, mind you I have four teenagers and live around the corner so we order from them more than a few times a month. The order taker informed me if I canceled my order my number and address wound be blocked. I asked to speak to a manager and was informed that she was the manager. We have been going to Vesuvius since we moved here from Chicago. It is our favorite pizza all around, and we tried all the others out there. The meatball sub is the only one I eat now. They make their own bread and it is SOOOO good. My husband likes the sandwiches, the eggplant one he had last night. My kids love the Margarita pizza. OK, time to eat now! read more

For my money this is the best pizza in the area. Ever since moving to Salem I've been on the hunt for something to rival the cheesy, flavorful goodness that is NYC pizza to no avail. Until now. The pizza here (and I usually just do cheese) is perfectly made and exactly what pizza should be. Only thing keeping them from 5 stars is a lack of delivery outside Marblehead and the fact that their salads are just ok. But the winner here is the pizza. Fabulous sandwiches - the foccacia bread is incredibly tasty. I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered in or taken out. The food here is a great value for what you spend. The "Augustus Ceasar" sandwich is roast beef on foccacia with boursin cheese and my request, roasted garlic mayo. It is my favorite hands down but, there is a lot more to choose. In good weather, the outdoor seating is worth waiting for and the view is an added benefit. Give this place a try if you're out in Marblehead. Make a trip there if you're not nearby. She then turned to me and said, "No, that is a serious question" I responded that perhaps they are busier now that Romanos has closed. She said to me, can't people go to Dominos or out of town? Best sandwiches and pizza in town. I have yet to order anything I didn't enjoy. A tour of historic Marblehead for family and friends include a sustenance stop for Ana's Special or The Pegasus. I prefer to call ahead for take-out and head to Fort Sewall or anywhere on the harbor. Great food and a view for under $10. read more
