Cafe Vert is one of the few reasonably priced options for breakfast or brunch in Surfside. It is quaint and the food is delicious. I had the spinach and feta omelet and my dining companion had the breakfast special which included eggs, baguette, coffee and orange juice. The food is simple, but prepared well. My only complaint is that the salad dressing was not my favorite. It was sort of ranch-like without much flavor. I would have preferred a nice lemony vinaigrette. The baked goods looked amazing and my only regret is not having enough time on this visit to try a croissant, or crepe. I'm in the Surfside area with some regularity and will certainly plan to return to try more menu items! read more

Sadly this was a TERRIBLE experience for our vacation! We biked for an hour or so and we were so excited to find Café Verde, one of our destinations on the bike ride. The place was packed but we found a table and waited for a loooong loooong time for service. 2 other parties that came in after us were served before us! That was very annoying. We actually never got served!!! We had made eye contact 2 times with the waiter but to no avail. Avoid this place at all costs. 1. The interior is horrible, solid tile, tables more or less haphazardly placed and the noise is infinite, deafening. You can't hear yourself think. 2. The food is horrible, cooked without art, served without grace. 3. The staff is totally inadequate. Took 10 minutes just to get the poor young man there to come to my table. 4. The wait is also infinite; it took 30 minutes to get an artless, flavorless omelette because a family of 8 had ordered their food before. Avoid this "restaurant" at all costs. These are the shops I love finding. Family owned with lots of passion and uniqueness. Food was really good for how simple it is. It just starts with fresh quality ingredients. Cannot beat that combo. WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE!!! Where do I start? My 83 year old Mother has not been to Florida in 50 years. Unfortunately, we chose this place as our first to eat out at. 1. The omelettes were dark brown(burnt) to which the waiter replied "it's an omlette". And had no taste. 2. The "home fries potatoes" were soggy and wet and cold. 3. The service and owner - Just horrible!! There was only one server for the entire restaurant at breakfast time. We waited at least 30 minutes to get a simple breakfast. The potatoes came soggy and cold so the waiter said he would replace them. We literally could not get the check. After asking the waiter several times, he told me to go to the register. I waited on line 10 minutes to pay and when I did finally get there they charged me for the wrong bill/table. It was the owner that was at the register. When I tried to explain to him that's not our bill he got very angry with me. The entire restaurant was looking on. How utterly embarrassing and unprofessional! I explained that I want to see my check and he just ignored me. My poor Mom who had just arrived from the midwest had to experience this. He tried to charge me for a side of potatotes and when I explained that the waiter said he is REPLACING them he got upset again. I never did receive my actual check. They definitely ripped us off. No half and half. This place is also kosher so that's why no half and half and no ketchup on the tables. Slow service. Service charge too! We would have gladly tipped the waiter but I didn't understand a service charge for the two of us who had bad service and the coffee wasn't up to par either. The potatoes were also kind of gross! Cafe Vert is a nice little cafe located in the heart of Surfside. Cafe Vert is small, about 5-6 inside and a few tables outside. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and our server was very polite. The place appears to be a family run establishment. The building is old but it's quaint. The menu is not extensive nor does it need to be. Surfside is heavily Jewish thus many of the restaurants feature Kosher options or are entirely Kosher. Cafe Vert is one of those places. I ordered the veggie omelet. It came with potatoes and salad. My wife had the special breakfast which included eggs cooked to your liking, potatoes, salad, coffee and freshly squeezed juice. We were also given toasted baguettes and butter. The food was good. The breakfast was the perfect portion for one person. The place is quiet. The service was good. The food came out quickly and was made to order. It is a nice place to go when you are looking for a pleasant eating experience and not the "MIami hubub". It is also very affordable.
