We came here for a Valentine's Day dinner--our first time visiting after hearing good things from friends and seeing solid ratings. Even with a reservation, we did have to wait a bit, but it was Valentine's Day, so totally understandable given how busy Italian spots get. Parking was pretty convenient with spaces both in front and behind the restaurant, and if those are full, it's close to the Totem Lake area so there are other options nearby. The ambiance was definitely unique--lots of mannequins, motorcycles, and a sort of roadshow vibe. It felt fun, a little quirky, and different from your typical Italian restaurant. Service was good overall, especially considering how busy it was. Our server was attentive enough and kept things moving smoothly. We started with bread and butter--nothing particularly special, but still enjoyable. The garlic herb compound butter oddly felt nostalgic and reminded me of childhood. For appetizers, we got the meatballs, which were hearty and flavorful. For my entrée, I had the seafood pasta in a wine cream sauce and really enjoyed it. The food is very average-large portioned and a bit overworked (and underseasoned) pastas. A lot of variety and just ok. My side Caesar in the other hand was ridiculously small. I recently went to this restaurant with my entire family for my milestone birthday... First of all the service was good, a little slow initially but good. The food on the other hand was not enjoyed by anyone except the person who ordered pizza. All the pasta dishes were watered down like it had not been drained well. The salads were bad, old romaine lettuce. Frankly, I was a little embarrassed because two people flew in to be with me and they paid for the dinner. I'm just disappointed. Friendly people and great food! Very thoughtful wine collection! We tried the Bruschetta, quatro formagio pasta and criolo pasta. The Bruschetta was different than what I have had before but it was delicious, my husband liked the quatro formagio pasta and said it was creamy and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The criolo pasta was amazing, the creole seasoning was perfect and paired really well with the Italian sausage, peppers went really well with all the flavors in the dish. CV never ceases to disappoint. Hadn't been in quite some time and decided to go this evening to celebrate a new job. I realized I had never done a review! I know, shocking. I have no negatives here. From the somewhat cheeky Italian themed interior (Italian motorcycles from the 20th century) to the incredible food, I always have the best experience. Tonight was no exception. I got the seared salmon pasta special and SO got the stuffed pork loin with gnocchi. We shared the pesto cheese bread and bread with garlic butter. I don't normally order salads, but I'm trying to eat healthier, so I went for one today, and it completely surprised me. The lemon shrimp salad was so good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the lemon seasoning was spot on, and the sun-dried tomatoes tied everything together. The portion was generous too, and I was so full after. The stuffed pork shank with fontina, raisins, and cream sauce served with gnocchi is my all-time favorite--a rich, indulgent dish that's worth searching for on the menu. The Capri Salad (not caprese) with goat cheese and nuts is another standout, always fresh and flavorful. Their pizzas are also fantastic, with crispy crusts and bold toppings, though the lasagna is a bit underwhelming and doesn't match the rest of the menu's quality. However, our most recent visit had some service hiccups. Our waiter, a young African American gentleman who seemed new to the role, was noticeably slow. Bread and water took a while to arrive, and my boyfriend's meal came out over 16 minutes before mine, which was a first for us here. As a slow eater, this didn't bother me too much, but it frustrated him. The restaurant wasn't busy--only a third of the tables were even set for patrons--but the staff, including servers, cooks, and hosts, kept gathering at the hostess stand to chat, which slowed everything down. Despite these issues, because I love Italian food and it is less than 3 miles away-Veloce Cafe and Pizza Bank will stay on our family's regular rotation. We got the Dungeness Scallopini and Lamb Lasagna. They were both mediocre. Dungeness Scallopini was very liquidy, I wish the Alfredo sauce was thicker and stuck to the fettuccine more. The Lasagna was pretty dry, we were surprised to see the lack of sauce. Service was good despite them being busy hosting a wine dinner. We ended the night with a tiramisu. Decided to stop in on a whim. I drive by here all the time and haven't been in in years. I was quickly seated, but then had to wait quite a while before the waitress came. When she took my order, she was very curt almost to the point of rude. I ordered one of their salads that had olives, artichoke hearts , tomatoes & onion chunks. There was only one artichoke heart on the whole salad. I also ordered bread with garlic butter. The bread was not warm, the garlic butter was good and ordered the beef Bolognese for my entrée which was OK but dry. We ordered a Ceasar salad, garlic cheese bread, lasagna, and a margherita pizza. I appreciate the freshly dressed Caesar salad however it was overdressed and very lemony. But the saltiness of the parmesan cheese and the croutons was a nice complement to the salad. The garlic cheese bread was yummy, but I wish it had more cheese. I loved the crunchiness of the crust and the somewhat soft yet crisp bread center. The lasagna was amazing. It was meaty and cheesy. The Margherita pizza was different. We thought it was going to be the traditional pie, with a tomato base, sliced mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and fresh basil however this was completely untraditional. The crust was good. Elderly guests rushed out with unnecessary hostility My elderly mother, aunt, and disabled uncle- who have lived in this neighborhood for years and have been regular customers of Cafe Veloce for decades - brought me here around 11:30am after picking me up from the airport. We didn't realize the restaurant wasn't open yet. A man came out from the back clearly frustrated and immediately told us we needed to leave. Before we could even ask what time they open, he repeatedly said "i need you to move, you need to get out" and stood directly behind my family, becoming increasingly impatient with how slowly they were walking. My uncle is recovering from a fall and my mother has bad knees - they move carefully and were confused, just trying to ask a normal question. As they made their way to the door, his behavior became aggressive and hostile. He rushed them from behind, nearly pushing them out, snapping that the hours were "right on the door." He then closed and locked the door immediately, barely allowing them time to get out. The lack of patience was shocking. The tone and body language were cold and dismissive, and we were treated with a complete lack of courtesy after making an innocent mistake. Watching elderly family members be hurried and spoken to this way was deeply upsetting. What made this especially unfortunate was seeing how disappointed my aunt and uncle were. They were excited to bring me to a place they've loved for years and later said they had never experienced anything like this here before. Being early doesn't justify that level of hostility. I'm still appalled by how it felt to be shooed out the door and treated without basic respect, and I hope management is aware of this interaction and takes steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. read more
